Fujifilm X-S20: New Functions Firmware Update Guide

This document outlines the new functions, modifications, and eliminations implemented in firmware version 3.30 for the Fujifilm X-S20 digital camera. For the most current manual, please visit fujifilm-dsc.com/en-int/manual/.

Note: A firmware update will reset the CONNECTION MODE setting in the Network/USB Setup menu to its default value if WIRELESS AUTO SHOOTING is selected. Reconfigure settings as needed for your external device.

Smartphone Connection

Pair the camera with your smartphone and connect via Bluetooth®.

  1. Press the ? (Bluetooth) button when the camera is in shooting mode.
  2. Highlight Bluetooth and press MENU/OK.
  3. Highlight PAIRING and press MENU/OK.

You can also proceed directly to step 3 by holding down the button during playback.

Launch the smartphone app and pair it with the camera to display a code on the smartphone and camera. Confirm that both codes match for pairing.

A smartphone icon and a white Bluetooth icon will appear on the camera display when a connection has been established.

FOCUS RING OPERATION

Adjust settings for focus change when operating the focus ring during still photography.

Focus is adjusted at the same speed at which the ring is rotated.

LINEAR

Focus is adjusted linearly based on the amount of ring rotation. The rotation angle of the focus ring can also be set when focusing between the minimum focus distance and infinity.

FILM SIMULATION

Simulate the effects of different film types, including black and white (with or without color filters). Choose a palette based on the subject and your creative intent.

  • ACROS+RED FILTER: Significantly increases contrast and darkens the sky.
  • ACROS+GREEN FILTER: Produces natural skin tones in portraits.
MONOCROMATICOBlack and white shooting. Available with yellow (Ye), red (R), and green (G) filters, which deepen the gray tones corresponding to complementary colors of the selected color.
  • MONOCHROME+YELLOW FILTER: Slightly increases contrast and darkens the sky.
  • MONOCHROME+RED FILTER: Significantly increases contrast and darkens the sky.
  • MONOCHROME+GREEN FILTER: Produces natural skin tones in portraits.
SEPIAReproduces in sepia tones.

Film simulation options can be combined with tone and sharpness settings.

Film simulation settings are also accessible via shortcut keys.

Frame.io Integration

The camera displays icons indicating the status of files selected for or currently uploading to Frame.io.

An icon indicating the connection status to Frame.io is also displayed in the electronic viewfinder or LCD monitor.

Uploading Elements to Frame.io

Uploading Selected Elements Using "Frame.io Camera to Cloud"

  1. Select Frame.io Camera to Cloud in the network/USB setup menu.
  2. Select UPLOAD SETTING > SELECT IMAGE AND TRANSFER.

The NETWORK and Frame.io fields show the connection status to Frame.io.

The PROJECT and USER fields display information provided to Frame.io using a computer or other device. Note that some characters may not be displayed correctly and will be replaced by question marks (“?”).

  1. Mark elements for upload. Highlight photos and movies and press MENU/OK to mark them for upload.

Press DISP/BACK and select START TRANSFER. Selected items will be uploaded to Frame.io.

Filtering Items

To display only items that meet selected criteria, press DISP/BACK in the selection dialog box and select FILTER.

Selecting FILTER removes any existing upload markings.

Uploading Photos and Movies at the Moment of Shooting and Recording

Photos and movies recorded with ON selected for Frame.io Camera to Cloud > UPLOAD SETTING > AUTO IMAGE TRANSFER COMMAND in the network/USB setup menu are automatically marked for upload.

Connection via LAN Wireless

Connect to Frame.io via LAN wireless.

  1. Select NETWORK SETTING in the network/USB setup menu.
  2. Select NOT CREATED. You can also select or modify an existing network.
  3. Select ACCESS POINT SETTING. Select IP ADDRESS SETTING to manually choose the IP address as described in "Connection with an IP Address" (page 11).
  4. Select SIMPLE SETTING. To select a wireless LAN router or enter the router SSID manually, choose MANUAL SETTING.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to prepare the wireless LAN router. You can also use the PIN method to connect by displaying the camera's PIN and entering it on the wireless LAN router.
  6. Press MENU/OK when the setting is complete.
  7. Select Frame.io Camera to Cloud > CONNECT in the network/USB setup menu.
  8. Once the connection is established, select GET PAIRING CODE. A pairing code will be displayed. Enter this code on the Frame.io screen accessed from your computer or tablet to connect Frame.io and the camera.

Connection with an IP Address

Connect to Frame.io using a manually created network/USB setup profile by providing the IP address and other network settings.

  1. Select MANUAL. Select AUTOMATIC to automatically assign an IP address to the camera.
  2. Enter an IP address.
    • Select IP ADDRESS and enter an IP address.
    • Select SUBNET MASK and enter a subnet mask.
    • Select GATEWAY ADDRESS and enter a gateway address.
    • Select DNS SERVER ADDRESS and enter a DNS server address.

Supported Functions

This camera supports the following functions:

Save and Load SettingsSave camera settings to a computer or smartphone, or load existing settings from them.

Firmware Updates

Update the firmware when the firmware has been updated and functions have been added and/or modified.

After updating to the latest firmware, camera functions may differ slightly from those listed in this manual.

Firmware Download

First, download the latest firmware and save it to a memory card. For the firmware download method, refer to the following website: fujifilm-x.com/support/download/firmware/cameras/

Firmware Update Methods

Firmware can be updated in the following ways:

Firmware Update When Starting the Camera

Insert a memory card containing the new firmware into the camera. While pressing the DISP/BACK button, turn on the camera. The firmware can be updated. When the update is complete, turn off the camera once.

Firmware Update from the Setup Menus

Insert a memory card containing the new firmware into the camera. Select USER SETTING > FIRMWARE UPDATE to update the firmware.

Firmware Update Using a Smartphone App (Manual Update)

If using a smartphone app, you can update the firmware from the app. For details, refer to the following website: fujifilm-dsc.com/

Firmware Update Using a Smartphone App (Automatic Update)

If using FUJIFILM XApp Ver. 2.0.0 or later, the latest firmware will be automatically downloaded to the camera from the smartphone.

  1. When using the camera, a confirmation screen will appear if the update is ready. Select YES.

If CANCEL is selected, the confirmation screen will reappear when the camera is turned on the next day or subsequent days.

  1. When the selection screen appears, select UPDATE NOW.

Select OK.

Follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware.

When the update completion screen appears, turn off the camera.

Checking Firmware Version

To view version information, turn on the camera while pressing the DISP/BACK button.

To view the firmware version or firmware update for optional accessories such as interchangeable lenses, hot-shoe mounted flash units, and bayonet adapters, mount the accessories on the camera.

AF MODE

Choose how the camera selects the focus point for movie recording.

OptionDescription
MULTIThe camera automatically selects the focus area.
WIDE/TRACKINGThe camera automatically tracks the subject if the focus ring is pushed to the center or the screen is touched when the focus mode is CONTINUOUS AF. The camera automatically selects the focus subject when the focus mode is SINGLE AF.
AREAThe camera focuses on the subject in the selected focus area.

FILE TYPE SELECTION

Choose the file types uploaded to Frame.io. You can select or deselect each file type individually.
