This document is the User Manual for the STRONG SRT 8119 Digital Terrestrial HD Receiver. It provides comprehensive instructions for setup, operation, and troubleshooting.

Front Panel (Fig. 1)

  • LED Display: Shows channel number or standby time.
  • LED Indicator: RED for STAND-BY mode, GREEN for OPERATION mode.
  • IR Sensor: Receives signals from the remote control.
  • USB Port: For connecting external storage devices.

Rear Panel (Fig. 2)

  • ANT IN: Connects to the antenna for signal reception.
  • HDMI: Connects the receiver to a TV via HDMI cable for high-quality video and audio.
  • TV SCART: Connects the receiver to a TV via SCART cable.
  • S/PDIF Coaxial: Connects the receiver to a digital audio amplifier.

Left Side Panel (Fig. 3)

  • DC IN: Power input port for the 12V DC adapter.

Remote Control (Fig. 4)

The remote control allows operation of the receiver. It requires 2 AAA batteries (Fig. 5) and operates effectively up to 5 meters with a 30-degree angle (Fig. 6). Note: Bright light may affect remote sensor sensitivity.

Connections

3.1 Antenna Connection (Fig. 7)

Connect your terrestrial antenna (indoor or outdoor) to the ANT IN connector on the rear panel using a shielded antenna cable and appropriate connectors.

3.2 TV Connection via HDMI (Fig. 7)

Connect the TV to the receiver using a good quality HDMI cable for the best possible picture and sound quality.

3.3 Basic Connection via SCART (Fig. 7)

The receiver also features a SCART connector. Alternatively, connect your TV using a good quality SCART cable.

3.4 Connection to Digital Audio Amplifier with S/PDIF (Fig. 8)

Connect your receiver to a digital amplifier or home cinema system using an appropriate cinch cable to the S/PDIF connector for high-quality multi-channel audio.

3.5 Connection to Digital Audio Amplifier and TV via HDMI (Fig. 8)

Connect your receiver to an HDMI-equipped digital amplifier or home cinema system. Connect the receiver's HDMI output to an amplifier input, and the amplifier's HDMI output to your TV. Select the correct input on your amplifier.

3.6 USB Memory Device Connection (Fig. 9)

For Timeshift and recording functions, a fast USB storage device (like an HDD) is recommended. USB 2.0 or higher is recommended. If the USB device speed is too low, playback may be interrupted or distorted. STRONG cannot guarantee compatibility with all USB devices. Do not store critical data on USB devices used with the receiver; always back up data first. Ensure the USB device is formatted to NTFS or FAT32, or format it via the receiver (requires PIN). STRONG does not guarantee playback of all file formats due to codec dependencies.

First Installation

Upon first use, the Installation Guide will appear. Use the navigation buttons (pq) to select settings and (t u) to change values. Start by selecting the OSD Language, then Country. Confirm selections with OK.

Available Options:

  • Resolution: Automatically set for HDMI, can be adjusted. SCART connection defaults to 576i.
  • Aspect Ratio: Automatically set for HDMI (16:9 full screen). For SCART, select the desired aspect ratio for 16:9 transmissions on a 4:3 screen. Refer to section 7.4 for details.
  • Antenna Power: Select 'On' for active antennas (provides 5V to ANT IN) or 'Off' for passive antennas.
  • FTA (Free-to-Air): Select 'Yes' to install only free-to-air channels, or 'No' to install all channels found (including encrypted ones). Note: Encrypted channels cannot be viewed on this receiver.

After setting options, press OK to scan for channels. The receiver will search for all available channels and then switch to viewing mode.

Note: Incorrect country selection may result in a disordered channel list or missing channels.

Quick Start Guide

Ensure the power switch on the rear panel is ON. Use the power button (q) on the remote to turn the receiver on or put it in standby. Select channels using pq or by entering the channel number (0-9). Adjust volume with (t u).

Operation

6.1 Channel Changing

Channels can be changed via direct access (0-9), the channel list (OK), or channel up/down buttons (pq). Page through the channel list using (7 8).

6.1.1 Direct Channel Access

Enter the channel number using the remote's number buttons (0-9). The receiver will change channels automatically after a few seconds, or you can press OK immediately.

6.1.2 TV List

Press OK in viewing mode to display the TV List. Use pq to highlight a preferred channel and press OK to select it. Use TV/R to toggle between TV and Radio lists.

Tip: Use the COLOR buttons for faster channel selection, especially on long lists.

6.1.3 Using Navigation Keys

  • pq: Change to the next/previous channel.
  • When channel list is displayed: NEXT skips 10 channels forward, PREV- skips 10 channels backward.

6.2 Info Banner

Press INFO to display information about the current channel and event. Press INFO twice for program information, and a third time for technical channel details. Event information availability depends on the broadcast.

6.3 Audio Language Selection

Some channels offer multiple audio formats/languages. Press AUDIO to select a different audio stream. Use pq to navigate the list and EXIT to finish.

6.4 Teletext

Access Teletext by pressing TEXT. Use 0-9 to enter page numbers. COLOR buttons allow direct access to selected pages. Use pq to navigate pages up/down, and t u for subpages. EXIT or TEXT returns to viewing mode. Teletext data availability depends on the transmission.

6.5 Subtitles

Select available subtitle languages by pressing SUBTITLE. Use pq to choose a language and OK to confirm. Press ➡ to exit without changes. Subtitle availability depends on the transmission.

6.6 Timeshift

Pause live broadcasts and resume later by pressing II/TIMESHIFT. Use 5 6 for fast rewind/forward and 3 to return to live TV. Timeshift requires a connected USB storage device with sufficient free space and speed.

6.7 EPG (Electronic Programme Guide)

Access the EPG by pressing EPG. Use pq to select channels and t u, then pq to select events. Use 7 8 to quickly navigate through channels or events. Press the GREEN button to reserve an event or reminder. Press the RED button to reserve an event for recording. A connected HDD is required for recording. Use the BLUE button to access the manual timer list. Use EXIT to close the EPG. EPG data availability depends on the broadcast. Recording an event requires a suitable USB device.

6.8 Instant Recording

Press 4 to start recording the current program. A recording indicator will appear on screen. Press 3 to stop recording and confirm with OK. Access recordings via the USB button.

Note: Connect a USB storage device with sufficient free space before recording.

7.0 Main Menu

The Main Menu provides access to multimedia functions and settings. Press MENU to access it. Submenus include: Channel List, Installation, Language, AV Settings, Local Time Settings, System, and Multimedia. Use [MENU to return to the previous screen. Use pq to select/change settings. Some menu items may require a password if parental control is enabled.

7.1 Channel List

Channel Sorting: Use the BLUE button to sort channels alphabetically, by free-to-air/encrypted, or locked/unlocked status. Select 'Default' to revert to the original list. Press OK to confirm.

Moving Channels: Select a channel, press OK for 'LCN Modification', enter the new position using 0-9, and press OK to confirm.

Locking Channels: Requires a password. Select a channel and press GREEN to lock/unlock. Enter PIN when prompted. Locked channels are marked with a symbol. Multiple channels can be locked/unlocked in one session. Press EXIT to save changes.

Deleting Channels: Use pq to highlight a channel and press 1 to mark for deletion. Multiple channels can be selected. Press EXIT to confirm deletion.

Note: Deleted channels can only be recovered by performing a new channel search in the Installation menu.

Adding Channels to Favourites: Channels can be added to up to 8 favourite groups. Press FAV in 'Edit Programs'. Use pq to select a channel, press FAV, select a favourite type, then select the favourite list using pq and press OK. Press EXIT twice and confirm to finish. Favourite channels are marked with a heart symbol. To remove a channel from a favourite list, repeat the process.

Renaming: Select a channel, press 2, use the on-screen keyboard (t u pq) to rename, and press OK to confirm.

Delete All: Use the YELLOW button to select all channels for deletion. Channels are marked with an X. Press EXIT to confirm. Deleted channels can only be recovered via a new channel search.

7.2 Options

  • Parental Control: Lock programs by age rating. Set a password and select an age limit (Off, 7-18 years). Default is 18 years.
  • Menu Lock: If enabled, crucial menu items are password-protected.
  • Channel Lock: If disabled, channel locking in the list is overridden.
  • New PIN Code: Set a new 4-digit PIN.
  • LCN: Logical Channel Numbering. Setting depends on the selected country.

7.3 Installation

  • Automatic Search: Searches for all available channels in the selected region. This will delete previously installed channels and favourites. New channels are installed in the channel list. Press OK to start scanning.
  • Manual Search: Search for a specific channel on a known frequency. Use 'Start Search' and OK. Signal strength bar helps check frequency usage or antenna aiming.
  • Antenna Power: 'On' provides 5V to the ANT IN connector for active antennas. 'Off' for passive antennas.
  • FTA: 'Yes' installs only free-to-air channels. 'No' installs all channels found, including encrypted ones. Then select Automatic or Manual Search.

7.4 Language

  • Language (OSD): Select display language using t u.
  • First Audio: Select preferred audio language using t RIGHT.
  • Second Audio: Select a fallback audio language if the first is unavailable.
  • Subtitle Language: Select preferred subtitle language using t u.
  • Teletext Language: Changes character set based on country.
  • Subtitle Type: Select preferred subtitle type (Off, Hearing Impaired, Normal).

Note: Availability of audio tracks, teletext, and subtitles depends on the broadcast.

7.5 AV Adjustment

Match receiver settings to your TV. Adjustments include:

  • Resolution: 576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p.
  • Aspect Ratio: Auto, 4:3 Letterbox, 4:3 PanScan, 16:9 LetterBox, 16:9 PanScan. Options for how 16:9 content is displayed on a 4:3 TV and vice versa.
  • Video Effects: Preset, Vivid, Standard for colour and brightness adjustment.
  • Audio Output: PCM, SPDIF, Bitstream options for S/PDIF. Auto forwards Dolby Digital 5.1 if available.
  • Audio Description: Enables audio description narrated content for visually impaired users.
  • AD Volume: Adjusts the volume of the Audio Description track.
  • HDMI CEC: Controls CEC connection between devices. May work best with same-brand devices. Select 'Off' if issues occur.

Note: Audio Description availability depends on the broadcast.

7.6 Local Time Adjustment

  • Region: Select your region/country to determine time zone, character sets, and LCN usage.
  • GMT Usage: 'By Region' (default) uses broadcast time. 'Off' allows manual date/time setting. Can adjust for daylight saving time if needed.

7.7 System

  • System Information: Displays hardware and software version.
  • Factory Settings: Resets the receiver to factory defaults (requires password).
  • Timers List: View and edit reserved timers. Access directly via BLUE button.
  • OSD Settings: Customize on-screen display preferences (transparency, timeout).
  • Change Mode: Black screen or Video freeze when changing channels.
  • USB Update: Update receiver software via USB. Download software from the website, place the unzipped file in the root directory of a USB device, connect it, navigate to System > USB Update > Apply All, select the file, and start.

Note: Do not interrupt software updates. Do not disconnect the USB device, power cable, or turn off the receiver.

  • User Database: Backup and restore receiver settings and channels via USB. Can also update databases from other compatible receivers.
  • Maincode, All Code, Keydata: For factory use only.
  • USB Backup: Create a backup of user data to a USB device.
  • Auto Standby: Puts the receiver into standby mode after a set period of inactivity to save power. Default is 3 hours. Options: Off, 1, 2, 3 hours.
  • After Recording: Configure action after recording (standby or watch TV).

7.8 Multimedia

Play various media files from a connected USB storage device.

  • Music: Play MP3 files.
  • Images: View JPG images.
  • Movies: Play various video formats.
  • Recordings Manager: View recorded programs. Access recordings via the USB button.

The unit supports USB HDD with FAT32 format, and NTFS is also usable. Ensure USB device is correctly formatted. Use on-screen button prompts and remote multimedia buttons (6, 5, 3, 2) for playback. Use COLOR buttons for multimedia management. The MEDIA button provides direct access to the Multimedia menu.

  • Configuration: Set photo slideshow preferences (speed, repeat, effect).
  • Movie Encoding: Configure subtitle settings for movie playback.
  • Recordings Manager: View a list of recorded programs.
  • Device Information: Displays technical information about the connected USB device.
  • Storage Format: Displays partition/device information. Recommends USB HDD formatted with FAT32 or NTFS. USB devices can be formatted to FAT32 via the receiver.

WARNING: Formatting erases all data. The manufacturer is not responsible for data loss. Select the partition, choose 'Format', press OK to continue, confirm, and press OK to start formatting. This may take time.

  • Recording Settings:
    • Time Shift: Reserves storage space for Timeshift, reducing space for recordings.
    • Recording Folder: Select partition for recording if multiple exist.
    • After Recording: Set action after recording (standby or watch TV).

A.1 Troubleshooting
