Choosing the Right Installation Location
Room Dimensions:
- Ensure at least 30 inches clearance from blade tip to the nearest wall or obstruction.
- Maintain at least 7 feet clearance from the bottom edge of the blade to the floor.
Outlet Box:
The fan must be secured to a building structure or a fan-rated outlet box acceptable for fan support of 70 lbs (31.8 kg) or less. Use the provided mounting screws.
Ceiling Angle:
- Standard Mounting (Flat Ceiling): Hang the fan using a standard downrod. Some fans include a shorter downrod for low-profile installation.
- Angled Mounting (Angled or Vaulted Ceiling):
- If the ceiling angle is greater than 34°, a longer downrod (sold separately at HunterFan.com) is required.
- If the ceiling angle is greater than 34°, an Angled Mounting Kit (sold separately at HunterFan.com) is also required.
Angled Mounting Details: For optimum performance and appearance on high or angled ceilings, a longer downrod is recommended. An Angled Mounting Kit is necessary for ceilings steeper than 34°. Use the provided guide to determine if an Angled Mounting Kit is needed: Fold on the dotted line, place the edge against the wall, and slide towards the ceiling. If the guide touches the wall but not the ceiling, an angled mounting kit is required.
Installing the Ceiling Bracket
Choose one of the two installation options. Remove any existing bracket first. Use only the provided Hunter ceiling bracket.
Option 1: Outlet Box Mount
Use machine screws (provided with outlet box) and washers when securing to an existing ceiling fan-rated outlet box. Ensure it is securely installed and approved for fan support up to 70 lbs (31.8 kg).
Option 2: Building Structure Mount
Use wood screws and washers (included in hardware bag) when securing to a support structure. Drill 9/64" pilot holes to aid in securing the ceiling bracket.
ANGLED MOUNTING TIP: For angled ceilings, point the bracket opening towards the peak.
Wiring the Fan
[Power Off] Turn power off first!
Wiring Diagram Description:
- Connect wiring from ceiling to the terminal block on the side of the canopy mount using a flathead screwdriver.
- Connect wiring harness from ceiling bracket to the receiver's wiring harness, matching colored wires.
- Connect wiring harnesses from the fan to the receiver's wiring harness, matching colored wires.
- Connect the grounding wire plug from the downrod to the grounding wire plug from the ceiling bracket.
WARNINGS:
- To avoid electrical shock, disconnect power before installation/servicing.
- All wiring must comply with national and local electrical codes (ANSI/NFPA 70). Consult a qualified electrician if unsure.
- The ceiling fan must be grounded. If a ground wire is absent, stop installation and consult an electrician.
Installing the Downrod
Follow these steps if using the pre-assembled downrod. For longer/shorter downrods, refer to the guide at the end of the manual.
Important: DO NOT REMOVE SETSCREW COMPLETELY. Back out the pre-installed setscrew so its threads are still engaged but do not protrude and obstruct downrod insertion.
- Guide the downrod ball (C), sleeve (D), and downrod (B) down the wires from the fan.
- Slide the downrod sleeve (A) up the downrod.
- Insert the downrod pin (B) into the pin hole (C) on the top of the downrod. Ensure wires are not pinched or entangled; they should run along one side of the pin.
- Insert the downrod ball screw (A) into the hole in the top of the downrod ball.
- Hand-tighten the downrod (4-5 turns) until it stops.
- Tighten the setscrew with pliers. DO NOT HAND TIGHTEN.
NOTICE: Ensure wires are not tangled while twisting.
Hanging the Fan:
- Slide the downrod ball (A) up the downrod pipe. Align the downrod pin (B) with the notches in the downrod ball (A).
- Place the downrod ball into the slot in the ceiling bracket.
WARNING: FAN FALL HAZARD
- ALWAYS tighten setscrew with pliers.
- DO NOT hand tighten setscrew.
- CHECK setscrew tightness with pliers each time fan direction is changed.
- Pin must be reinserted to secure downrod assembly.
NOTICE: To prevent fan damage, ALWAYS lift holding the fan housing or the downrod.
Installing the Canopy
Insert two canopy screws (from hardware bag) into the canopy. Fit the canopy into place, aligning screw holes with the ceiling bracket. Lift the canopy and secure it.
Installing the Blades
Align the three blade holes with the three blade iron posts. Squeeze the blade and post together. The flared tops of the blade iron posts should be fully visible above the blade when properly assembled.
Repeat for all 5 blades.
Note: Fan style may vary.
Assembling the Light Kit
- Partially install two of the switch housing screws (from hardware bag).
- Connect the plugs from the upper and lower switch housings. Match colored markings on connectors.
- Install the last light kit screw. Tighten all three screws securely.
- Align the notches in the lower switch housing with the upper switch housing screws. Lift the lower switch housing and twist clockwise to lock it into place.
WARNING: FAN FALL HAZARD Make sure all three screws are tight to secure the lower switch housing to the upper switch housing.
Installing the Bulbs and Glass
- Install the included bulbs into the sockets. Replace with bulbs of the same wattage when necessary.
- Press the glass globe and globe keeper flush against the metal plate.
- Thread the light pull chain through the hole in the center of the finial cap. Thread the fan pull chain through the hole in the side of the cap.
- Thread only the light pull chain through the hole in the finial. Screw the finial onto the threaded rod.
WARNING: GLASS FALL HAZARD To prevent SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH, ensure glass is properly secured.
Note: Fan style may vary.
Installing the Pull Chains
Feed the pull chains from the fan switch and light switch down through the holes in the finial. Attach the pull chain pendants.
- Fan Speed: Pull the chain with the fan icon to adjust speed. A single beep confirms speed change. Each beep represents a different speed level. A triple beep signifies the fan is off.
- Light: The light pull chain controls the light fixture on and off.
Note: Fan style may vary.
Reversing the Fan
Ceiling fans operate in two directions: downdraft (counterclockwise rotation) and updraft (clockwise rotation).
To change direction: Wait until the fan stops completely (audible triple beep). Pull and hold the fan chain until you hear a double beep, indicating the direction has changed.
Note: Fan style may vary.
WINTER MODE:
[Updraft] (counterclockwise rotation) creates indirect airflow, moving warm air downward.
SUMMER MODE:
[Downdraft] (clockwise rotation) creates a direct breeze for maximum cooling.
Troubleshooting
Fan Doesn't Work
- Ensure power switch is on.
- Check circuit breaker.
- Verify blades spin freely.
- Turn off power, loosen canopy, and check all connections against the wiring diagram.
Noisy Operation
- Ensure blades are properly installed.
- Check for cracked blades; replace all if found.
Excessive Wobbling
- Ensure blades are properly installed on blade iron posts.
- Turn power off, support the fan, and check that the hanger ball is properly seated.
The Fan Moves Backwards And Forwards When Turned On
This is normal for DC motor fans during start-up. The partial movement aligns internal magnetic poles for proper operation, saving electricity and reducing noise compared to AC motor fans.
Hunter Pro Tip: Cleaning the Fan: Use soft brushes or cloths to prevent scratching. Cleaning products may damage finishes.
