This document provides composite outline and mounting dimensions for ASCO Series 300 Automatic Transfer Switches, covering open-type, 2, 3, and 4-pole configurations with or without a neutral pole, rated for 225 through 400 Amperes.
Main Unit Outline and Dimensions
The main diagram illustrates the physical layout of the transfer switch unit. Key dimensions are labeled:
Standard Overhang: 2.00 inches (50.8 mm)
Maximum Overhang: 5.00 inches (127.0 mm) when additional auxiliary contacts are supplied.
The diagram shows terminal designations for LOAD, EMERGENCY, and NORMAL connections, as well as the fourth pole for overlapping neutral configurations.

Control Panel Mounting Data
This section provides dimensions for mounting the control panel and associated components.
Control Panel Dimensions: Approximately 7.6 inches (193.7 mm) wide by 9.5 inches (241.3 mm) high.
Suggested Mounting Hole Spacing: Horizontal spacing of 7.6 inches (193.7 mm) and vertical spacing of 9.5 inches (241.3 mm) for the control panel.
Suggested Mounting Details for Control Panel Studs:
Hole B
Diameter: 0.249 - 0.252 inches. For Ø.250-20 x 1.50 Long Penn Captive Stud FH-0420-24-ZI.
Hole C
Diameter: 0.163 - 0.166 inches. For Ø.164-32 x 0.313 Long Penn Captive Stud FH-832-5-ZI.
Grounding Strap: Capture grounding strap at the lower left corner of the control panel with mounting hardware on the mounting stud [indicated by * symbol].
Control Panel Cutout Details
Details "A"-1 and "A"-2 provide specific cutout dimensions for different enclosure types.
Detail "A"-1
This detail is for Type 1 enclosure. It shows a rectangular cutout with rounded corners.
Dimensions:
- Overall Width: 6.25 inches (158.8 mm)
- Overall Height: 4.25 inches (107.9 mm)
- Corner Radius: R0.25 inches (R6.4 mm)
- Internal cutout dimensions are also provided.
Detail "A"-2
This detail is for Type 3R, Type 12, and Type 4 enclosures. It shows a similar rectangular cutout with rounded corners.
Dimensions:
- Overall Width: 6.25 inches (158.8 mm)
- Overall Height: 4.25 inches (108.0 mm)
- Corner Radius: R0.25 inches (R6.3 mm)
- Internal cutout dimensions are also provided.
Suggested Mounting (Hole 'A')
Diameter: 0.137 - 0.140 inches. For Ø.138-32 x 0.625 Long Penn. Engineering & Mfg. Co. Self Clinching Captive Stud No. FH-632-8-ZI.
General Notes
- For two-pole switches, omit the center pole.
- When installing, connect Normal, Emergency, and Load conductors to similarly marked terminals.
- All internal connections are made at the factory.
- Maintain electrical clearance of 0.50 inches (12.7 mm) minimum between live metal parts and grounded metal.
- Mount the transfer switch unit on the inside back surface and the control panel(s) on the inside door surface.
- The control panel is connected to the transfer switch panel by a wire harness with two (2) quick disconnect plugs. Harness length is 40.00 inches (1016.0 mm). Accessory 37B is available as an extension harness, adding 72 inches (1828 mm). Note: Accessory 37B must be specified at time of order.
- For Type 1 use the (4) clearance corner holes or studs as required, per Detail "A"-1. For Type 3R, 4, & 12 use all studs or holes, per Detail "A"-2. A gasket is provided for Type 3R, 4, & 12.
- An operator's manual is furnished with each automatic transfer switch. Refer to this publication prior to installation and operation of the switch.
