Your switch will be registered to your NETGEAR account, and a confirmation email will be sent.
2. Connect the Switch
Sample GS108X Connections
The GS108X connects computers, storage, servers, and other network devices. It features 8 Gigabit Ethernet ports and one 10G SFP+ port for high-speed uplinks. A typical setup might involve connecting computers to the Gigabit ports and a high-speed network backbone or server to the 10G SFP+ port. The diagram shows computers, servers, storage, and a WAX610PA device connected to the switch, with a connection to the Internet via a router and an XS508M with a 10G Fiber Link.
Sample GS108MX Connections
The GS108MX also connects computers, storage, servers, and other network devices, featuring 8 Gigabit Ethernet ports and one 10G/Multi-Gigabit port (supporting 10G/5G/2.5G/1G speeds). The diagram illustrates a similar network setup with computers, servers, storage, and a WAX610PA device, connected to the Internet via a router and an XS508M with a 10G Ethernet Link.
Cable Recommendations:
- For 10-Gigabit Ethernet connections: Use Category 6a (Cat 6a) cable or higher.
- For Gigabit Ethernet connections: Use Category 5e (Cat 5e) cable or higher.
Important Note: This switch is designed for indoor use only. If connecting to outdoor devices, ensure they are properly grounded and surge-protected. Install an inline Ethernet surge protector between the switch and any outdoor devices to prevent damage. Mount the Switch on a Wall
Use the included wall-mount screws (0.12 in. diameter, 0.78 in. length).
- Locate the two mounting slots on the bottom panel of the switch.
- Mark and drill two holes 4.25 inches (108 mm) apart, center-to-center, in the desired wall location. Use a 3/16" (4.7mm) drill bit.
- Ensure the switch is mounted horizontally with the ports facing downwards.
- Insert the supplied anchors into the wall.
- Tighten the screws with a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver, leaving approximately 0.15 inches (4 mm) of each screw protruding from the wall to align with the switch's mounting holes.
- Position the switch over the screws, aligning the mounting holes, and slide it down until it is securely attached to the wall.
