2. Connecting the Switch

Connection Diagram

Diagram description: The diagram shows the MS105 switch. A computer is connected to the switch via a 2.5G Ethernet cable. Two wireless access points, WAX610 and WAX615, are connected to the switch via 2.5G Ethernet cables. Another wireless access point, WAX630, is also connected via a 2.5G Ethernet cable. The switch is connected to the Internet through a router.

Steps for connection:

  1. Connect network devices to the switch ports.
  2. NOTE: Each connected device requires its own power adapter, as the MS105 switch does not provide PoE power.
  3. Connect an Ethernet cable to an RJ-45 port on the switch.
  4. NOTE: Connect the switch to the LAN port of a router that is connected to a modem in a small office or home office network.
  5. Connect the power to the switch.

NOTE: All switch ports support 2.5 Gbps, 1 Gbps, and 100 Mbps speeds. You can connect any device to any switch port. We recommend using at least Category 5e (Cat 5e) cables for connections.

The switch is intended for indoor use only. If you need to connect to an outdoor device, that device must be properly grounded and equipped with surge protection. An Ethernet surge protector must also be installed on the cable between the switch and the outdoor device. Failure to do so may damage the switch.

WARNING: Before connecting this switch to outdoor cables or devices, read the safety and warranty information at https://kb.netgear.com/fi/000057103.

When you connect the power adapter to the switch and then to a power outlet, the status lights indicate the status:

Mounting the Switch to a Wall

We recommend using the wall mounting screws provided with the switch. The screws have a diameter of 6.5 mm and a length of 17.4 mm.

  1. Locate two mounting holes on the bottom panel of the switch.
  2. Mark and drill two mounting holes on the wall at the switch's mounting points. The distance between the centers of the holes should be 75 mm.
  3. Secure the anchors provided with the switch to the wall and tighten the screws with a Phillips #2 screwdriver. Leave approximately 4 mm of the screws visible from the wall to allow you to align the screws with the holes in the bottom panel.
