Overview of the appliance and equipment

Note: Place food inside the appliance as shown in the diagram. This allows the appliance to save energy during operation. Shelves, drawers and baskets are arranged for optimum energy efficiency on delivery.

Appliance range of use

Intended use: The appliance is suitable for cooling food products in a domestic or household-like environment. This includes use in staff kitchens, bed and breakfast establishments, by guests in country houses, hotels, motels, and other accommodation, or for catering and similar services in the wholesale trade. The appliance is not suitable for freezing food;* All other types of use are not permitted.

Foreseeable misuse: The following applications are expressly forbidden: Storing and refrigerating medicines, blood plasma, laboratory preparations or similar substances and products based on the Medical Device Directive 2007/47/EC; Use in areas at risk of explosions. Misusing the appliance may lead to damage to the goods stored or they may spoil.

Climate classifications: Depending on the climate classification, the appliance is designed to operate in restricted ambient temperatures. The climate classification applying to your appliance is printed on the rating plate.

General safety information

Note: Keep to the specified ambient temperatures in order to guarantee that the appliance works properly.

Saving energy

  • Pay attention to good ventilation. Do not cover ventilation holes or grids.
  • Do not install the appliance in direct sunlight, next to an oven, radiator or similar.
  • Energy consumption depends on installation conditions, e.g., ambient temperature. A warmer ambient temperature can increase energy consumption.
  • Open the appliance for as short a time as possible.
  • The lower the temperature is set, the higher the energy consumption.
  • Sort your food: visit home.liebherr.com/food.
  • Keep all food properly packed and covered to prevent frost formation.
  • Only take food out for as long as necessary so that it doesn't warm up too much.
  • When inserting warm food, allow it to cool down to room temperature first.
  • Thaw frozen food in the refrigerator.*
  • If there is a thick layer of frost, defrost the appliance.*

Dust deposits increase energy consumption: For refrigerators with heat exchangers, dust the metal grid on the back of the appliance once a year.

Controls and displays

General Safety Precautions:

  • Do not damage the refrigerant circuit pipes.
  • Do not handle ignition sources inside the appliance.
  • Do not use electrical appliances inside the appliance (e.g., steam cleaners, heaters, ice cream makers).
  • If refrigerant leaks: remove naked flames or ignition sources from the leakage point, air the room properly, and inform customer services.
  • Do not store explosives or sprays with combustible propellants (e.g., butane, propane, pentane) in the appliance. Gases escaping may ignite due to electrical components.
  • Keep burning candles, lamps, and other items with naked flames away from the appliance.
  • Store alcoholic drinks or other packaging containing alcohol in tightly closed containers. Leaked alcohol may be ignited by electrical components.

Dangers:

  • Danger of tipping and falling: Do not misuse the plinth, drawers, or doors as a step or support, especially children. Risk of tipping if the door is open and the appliance is not properly installed.
  • Danger of food poisoning: Do not consume food stored too long.
  • Danger of frostbite, numbness and pain: Avoid prolonged skin contact with cold surfaces or refrigerated/frozen goods; wear protective gloves.
  • Danger of injury and damage: Hot steam can cause injury. Do not use electrical heating, steam cleaning equipment, open flames, or defrosting sprays. Do not use sharp implements to remove ice.
  • Danger of crushing: Do not hold the hinge when opening/closing the door; fingers may get caught.

Symbols on the appliance:

  • A symbol on the compressor indicates the danger of flammable materials [flame symbol]. Do not remove the sticker.
  • A sticker on the rear of the appliance refers to foam-padded panels for recycling purposes. Do not remove the sticker.

  • DANGER: Situation involving direct danger, potentially resulting in death or severe bodily injury.
  • WARNING: Dangerous situation, potentially resulting in death or severe bodily injury.
  • CAUTION: Dangerous situation, potentially resulting in minor or medium bodily injury.
  • NOTICE: Dangerous situation, potentially resulting in damage to property.

Temperature display

During normal operation, the display shows the average cooling temperature. The temperature display flashes when you change the temperature setting.

Putting into operation

The following displays indicate a fault: F0 to F9. Refer to section 7 Malfunctions for possible causes and solutions.

Transporting the appliance

  • Transport the appliance only in suitable packaging.
  • Transport the appliance upright.
  • Do not transport the appliance on your own.

Installing the appliance

WARNING: Fire hazard due to dampness! If live parts or the mains lead become damp, short circuits may occur. The appliance is designed for enclosed areas only. Do not operate outdoors or in areas exposed to splash water or damp conditions.

WARNING: Risk of fire due to short circuit! If the mains cable/connector touches the rear of the appliance, vibrations may cause damage leading to a short circuit. Stand the appliance so that cables do not touch the rear. Do not plug the appliance or others into sockets near the rear.

WARNING: Fire hazard due to refrigerant! The coolant is eco-friendly but flammable. Leaking coolant may ignite. Do not damage the piping of the refrigeration circuit.

WARNING: Fire hazard and danger of damage! Do not place heat-emitting appliances (e.g., microwaves, toasters) on the appliance.

WARNING: Blocked ventilation openings pose a risk of fire and damage! Always keep ventilation openings clear and ensure proper ventilation.

Note: The bags at the rear of the appliance are important for proper operation; their contents are nontoxic and nonhazardous. Do not remove the bags!

NOTICE: Risk of damage due to condensate! Do not install the appliance directly alongside another refrigerator/freezer.

Before connecting, report any damage immediately to the delivery company.

Installation Requirements:

  • The floor of the installation site must be horizontal and even.
  • Do not install in direct sunlight, next to an oven, radiator, or similar.
  • Install the appliance with the rear panel against the wall, using supplied wall spacers.
  • Only move the appliance when empty.
  • The supporting surface must be level with the surrounding floor.
  • Do not install on your own.
  • Ensure adequate room size based on coolant quantity (at least 1 m³ per 8 g of coolant).
  • Detach the connecting cable from the rear and remove the cable holder to prevent vibratory noise.
  • Remove protective film from decorative trims and all transit supports.
  • Use supplied wall spacers to achieve stated energy consumption (extends depth by approx. 35 mm).
  • Align the appliance using adjustable-height feet (A) and a spirit level for stability.
  • Clean the appliance before connecting.
  • Ensure good ventilation, especially in damp environments where condensate may form.

Ventilation Requirements:

  • A ventilation duct of at least 50 mm depth at the back of the stack cabinet, across its width.
  • Ventilation gap below the ceiling must have a cross-section of at least 300 cm². Larger spaces improve energy efficiency.
  • If hinges are next to a wall, maintain at least 40 mm distance between appliance and wall.

Changing over the door hinges

You can change the door hinges if necessary. Tools required: Torx® 25, Torx® 15, supplied open-ended wrench, and possibly a second person.

CAUTION: Risk of injury if the door tips! Take good hold of the door and set it down carefully.

WARNING: Risk of injury due to door dropping out! Ensure bearing parts are screwed tightly (4 Nm). Check and retighten all screws.

Insertion into a row of kitchen units

[Diagram 5], [Diagram 6], [Diagram 7] illustrate appliance placement. [Diagram 8] shows installation into kitchen units.

  • For appliances with wall spacers, measurement increases by 35 mm (see 4.2 Installing the appliance).
  • The appliance can be built into kitchen units. A top cupboard can be added to match fitted kitchen unit height.
  • When installing with kitchen units (max. depth 580 mm), the appliance may project by 34 mm at the sides and 50 mm in the centre relative to the kitchen cabinet front.

NOTICE: Danger of overheating due to insufficient air ventilation! Ensure adequate air ventilation to prevent compressor damage.

Ventilation requirements:

  • At the back of the stack cabinet, a ventilation duct of at least 50 mm depth across the width is required.
  • The ventilation gap below the ceiling must have a cross-section of at least 300 cm².
  • A larger ventilation space improves energy efficiency.
  • If the appliance is installed with hinges next to a wall, maintain at least 40 mm distance between appliance and wall.

Disposing of packaging

WARNING: Danger of suffocation due to packing material and plastic film! Do not allow children to play with packing material.

Packaging is made of recyclable materials: corrugated board/cardboard, expanded polystyrene, polythene bags/sheets, polypropylene straps, and nailed wooden frame with polyethylene panel*. Take packaging material to an official collecting point.

Connecting the appliance

NOTICE: Failure to connect properly can damage electronics. Do not use a standalone inverter or an energy saving plug.

WARNING: Failure to connect properly poses a fire hazard. Do not use an extension cable or distributor blocks.

  • Ensure the type of current and voltage match the type plate.
  • The socket must be properly earthed and fused (10 A to 16 A tripping current).
  • The socket must be easily accessible for emergency disconnection.
  • Check the electrical connection.
  • Plug in the power plug.

Switching on the appliance

  • Press the On/Off button [Diagram 3, (1)]. The appliance switches on, and the temperature display shows the set temperature.
  • If "DEMO" is displayed, demo mode is activated. Contact after-sales service.

Control

Brightness of the temperature display

Adjust the display brightness to room light conditions. Brightness is adjustable from h 0 (minimum) to h 5 (maximum).

Setting the brightness:

  1. Activate setting mode: Press SuperFrost* button [Diagram 3, (3)] / SuperCool* button [Diagram 3, (4)] for approx. 5 seconds. The Menu symbol [Diagram 3, (5)] appears, and 'c' flashes on the display.
  2. Use the adjustment button [Diagram 3, (2)] to select the desired brightness level (h 0 to h 5).
  3. Briefly confirm the setting with the SuperFrost* button [Diagram 3, (3)] / SuperCool* button [Diagram 3, (4)]. The selected level 'h' flashes on the display.
  4. Deactivate setting mode: Press the On/Off button [Diagram 3, (1)] once. The temperature display returns to normal.

If setting mode is active but you wish to keep the old brightness setting, press the On/Off button [Diagram 3, (1)] twice to deactivate setting mode.

Child proofing

The child-proofing function prevents the appliance from being inadvertently switched off by children.

Setting the child lock:

  1. Activate setting mode: Press SuperFrost* button [Diagram 3, (3)] / SuperCool* button [Diagram 3, (4)] for approx. 5 seconds. The Menu symbol [Diagram 3, (5)] appears, and 'c' flashes on the display.
  2. Briefly confirm with the SuperFrost* button [Diagram 3, (3)] / SuperCool* button [Diagram 3, (4)]. '[c1]' appears on the display.
  3. Briefly confirm again with the SuperFrost* button [Diagram 3, (3)] / SuperCool* button [Diagram 3, (4)]. The child lock symbol [Diagram 3, (7)] lights up, and 'c' flashes on the display. The child lock is now switched on.
  4. To terminate setting mode, briefly press the On/Off button [Diagram 3, (1)] or wait 5 minutes. The temperature display returns to normal.

Switching off the child lock:

  1. Activate setting mode: Press SuperFrost* button [Diagram 3, (3)] / SuperCool* button [Diagram 3, (4)] for approx. 5 seconds. The Menu symbol [Diagram 3, (5)] appears, and 'c' flashes on the display.
  2. Briefly confirm with the SuperFrost* button [Diagram 3, (3)] / SuperCool* button [Diagram 3, (4)]. '[c0]' appears on the display.
  3. Briefly confirm again with the SuperFrost* button [Diagram 3, (3)] / SuperCool* button [Diagram 3, (4)]. The child lock symbol [Diagram 3, (7)] goes out, and 'c' flashes on the display. The child lock is now switched off.
  4. To terminate setting mode, briefly press the On/Off button [Diagram 3, (1)] or wait 5 minutes. The temperature display returns to normal.

Refrigerator compartment

Natural air circulation creates temperature zones: coldest above vegetable drawers and at the rear wall; warmest at the top front and in the door.

Refrigerating food:

  • Store perishable foods (ready meals, meat, sausages) in the coldest area.
  • Place butter and preserves in the top area and door.
  • Use reusable plastic, metal, aluminium, glass containers, and foil wrap.
  • Always store raw meat and fish in clean, sealed containers on the bottom shelf to prevent contact with or dripping onto other foods.
  • Foods that absorb or give off smell/taste, and liquids, should be stored in sealed or covered containers.
  • Do not pack foods too closely together to allow air circulation.

Setting the temperature:

Temperature depends on door opening frequency/duration, room temperature, and food type/quantity. Recommended setting: 5 °C. An average of approx. -18 °C is established in the freezer compartment*.

  • To change temperature: Press the setting button [Diagram 3, (2)]. The previously set value flashes.
  • Change in 1 °C steps by pressing the setting button [Diagram 3, (2)] until the required temperature is shown.
  • Change continually by holding down the setting button. The value flashes during adjustment.
  • The new setting is adopted after approx. 5 seconds, and the temperature gradually adjusts.

SuperCool*:

Activates maximum cooling performance to rapidly cool large amounts of food. The refrigeration unit may be temporarily louder. Uses slightly more energy.

  • Switching on: Briefly press SuperCool button [Diagram 3, (4)]. The SuperCool symbol [Diagram 3, (9)] lights up. Cooling temperature drops to the lowest setting. SuperCool is on.
  • Premature deactivation: Briefly press SuperCool button [Diagram 3, (4)]. The SuperCool symbol [Diagram 3, (9)] goes out. SuperCool is deactivated.

SuperCool turns off automatically. The appliance returns to normal energy-saving mode.

Shelves

Shelves have pull-out stops to prevent accidental removal.

  • Moving/removing: Lift the shelf, pull forward slightly. Adjust height by moving slots along supports. To remove fully, tilt and pull forward. Insert shelf with raised edge upwards at the back.
  • Dismantling: Shelves can be dismantled for cleaning.

Using the sectioned shelf:

[Diagram 10] shows how to adjust height and use sectioned shelves.

  • Adjusting height: Pull glass plates out forwards. Remove support and click into place at the required height.
  • Using both shelves: Lift the top glass plate and pull the bottom glass plate forwards. Ensure plate (1) with pull-out stops is at the front, with stops (3) pointing downwards.

Door racks

[Diagram 11] and [Diagram 12] show moving and dismantling door racks for cleaning.

Freezer compartment*

Allows storage of frozen food for months, making ice cubes, and freezing fresh food at -18 °C and lower. Air temperature may fluctuate. Fluctuations are greater in half-full or empty compartments.

Freezing food:

  • The rating plate indicates maximum freezing capacity (kg/24h).
  • CAUTION: Risk of injury due to broken glass! Bottles and cans containing drinks may burst when frozen, especially sparkling drinks. Do not freeze bottles and cans containing drinks!
  • To freeze food rapidly, do not exceed quantities per pack: Fruit/vegetables up to 1 kg, Meat up to 2.5 kg.
  • Pack food in portions using freezer bags, reusable plastic, metal, or aluminium containers.
  • Distribute food over the shelf, avoiding contact with already frozen goods to prevent thawing.

Storage times:

Storage times are guide times.

Thawing food:

Thaw food in the refrigerator compartment, microwave oven, conventional or fan oven, or at room temperature. Remove only the required amount. Use thawed food as quickly as possible. Food once thawed should be re-frozen only in exceptional cases.

SuperFrost*:

Allows rapid freezing of fresh food to the core. The appliance operates with maximum refrigeration, potentially causing louder noise. Frozen food already in storage gains a "cold reserve".

  • You can freeze as many kilograms of fresh food within 24 hrs as indicated on the type plate under "Freezing capacity kg/24hrs".
  • Activate SuperFrost in good time: about 6 hours before placing small amounts of food, or about 24 hours in advance for maximum amounts.
  • Wrap and spread produce as far as possible. Avoid contact with already frozen produce to prevent thawing.
  • SuperFrost is not required when placing frozen food in the freezer or freezing up to approx. 1 kg fresh food daily.
  • Freezing with SuperFrost: Briefly press the SuperFrost button [Diagram 3, (3)] once. The SuperFrost symbol [Diagram 3, (6)] shines. Freezing temperature drops, and maximum cooling capacity is used.
  • For smaller quantities, wait approx. 6 hours before placing food.
  • For maximum quantities, wait approx. 24 hours before placing food.
  • Place produce so it touches the base or sides.*

SuperFrost deactivates automatically after 30 to 65 hours, depending on the quantity placed inside.

Maintenance

The SuperFrost symbol [Diagram 3, (6)] extinguishes when freezing is complete. The appliance continues in energy-saving normal mode.

Defrosting

Defrosting refrigerator compartment:

The fridge compartment defrosts automatically. Water drops or a thin layer of frost/ice on the back wall are normal. Clean the drain hole regularly (see 6.2 Cleaning the appliance).

Defrosting freezer compartment*:

Frost and ice form over time, more quickly if the door is opened frequently or warm food is placed inside. A thick layer of ice increases energy consumption. Defrost the appliance regularly.

WARNING: Improper defrosting can cause injuries and damage! Never use mechanical aids not recommended by the manufacturer. Do not use electrical heating, steam cleaning appliances, naked flames, or defroster sprays. Do not use sharp objects to remove ice. Do not damage the cooling circuit pipes.

  • Switch on SuperFrost one day before defrosting.*
  • Switch off the appliance. The temperature display goes out. If it does not go out, the child-proofing function (see 5.2) is active.
  • Pull out the plug.
  • Wrap frozen food in newspaper or blankets and store in a cool place.
  • Leave the compartment and appliance door open during defrosting.
  • Remove detached pieces of ice.
  • Pick up defrost water with a sponge or cloth.
  • Clean the compartment (see 6.2 Cleaning the appliance).

Cleaning the appliance

Clean the appliance regularly.

WARNING: Risk of injury and damage from hot steam! Do not use steam cleaners.

NOTICE: Incorrect cleaning damages the appliance! Do not use concentrated cleaning agents. Avoid abrasive sponges, steel wool, sharp or abrasive cleaning agents containing sand, chloride, or acid. Do not use chemical solvents. Do not damage or remove the type plate. Do not pull off, bend, or damage cables or components. Prevent cleaning water from entering the drain channel, ventilation grille, or electrical parts.

Use soft cleaning cloths and a universal pH-neutral cleaning agent. Use cleaning and care products suitable for contact with foodstuffs.

  • Empty the appliance.
  • Pull out the power plug.
  • Clean the vent grille regularly; dust deposits increase energy consumption.
  • Clean plastic outer and inner surfaces with lukewarm water and a little washing-up liquid.
  • For painted side walls, use a soft clean cloth. For heavy soiling, use lukewarm water with a neutral cleaning agent. A micro-fibre cloth can be used optionally.
  • Clean door surfaces with a soft clean cloth. For heavy soiling, use a little water or neutral cleaning agent.
  • Clean the drain hole: remove deposits with a narrow instrument, e.g., a cotton bud.
  • Most parts can be dismantled for cleaning (see relevant chapter).
  • Clean drawers and other equipment by hand with lukewarm water and a little washing-up liquid.
  • After cleaning: Wipe dry the appliance and equipment. Connect and switch on the appliance. Switch on SuperFrost (see 5.4.4 SuperFrost*). When the temperature is sufficiently cold, put the food back inside.

Replacing the interior illumination with LED lamp

The appliance uses an LED lamp for interior lighting.

  • For incandescent bulbs: Use an incandescent lamp with a maximum of 15 W and an E14 socket. Ensure power supply (AC) and voltage comply with the rating plate details.
  • For LED lamps: Use only the original LED lamp from the manufacturer. Obtain it through customer service or a specialist dealer (see 6.4 Customer service).

Malfunctions

Your appliance is designed for reliable operation. Check for handling errors first. You may be able to rectify the following faults yourself:

  • Appliance does not work: Check if switched on, power plug insertion, and wall socket fuse.
  • Compressor runs for a long time: Normal for energy-saving models, or when SuperFrost* or SuperCool* is activated.
  • LED on compressor flashes: This is a diagnostic LED and flashing is normal.
  • Excessive noise: Normal for speed-regulated compressors.
  • Bubbling and gurgling noise: Caused by refrigerant flow; normal.
  • Quiet clicking noise: Occurs when the refrigeration unit (motor) switches on or off; normal.
  • Humming noise: Briefly louder when the refrigeration unit (motor) switches on. This is normal, especially when SuperFrost*, SuperCool*, fresh food is added, or the door is left open.
  • Ambient temperature too high: Refer to 1.2 Appliance range of use.
  • Vibration noises: Ensure the appliance stands firmly on the floor. Align using adjustable feet. Keep bottles and jars apart.

WARNING: Risk of injury from LED light! The light intensity corresponds to risk group RG 2. Do not look directly into the light at close quarters through optical lenses when the cover is removed, as it may damage your eyes.

WARNING: Fire hazard from LED light! Use only the manufacturer's original LED light to avoid overheating or fire.

Troubleshooting specific faults:

  • Fault indication F0 to F9: Contact after-sales service (see 6 Maintenance).
  • DEMO mode active: Contact after-sales service (see 6 Maintenance).
  • Outer surfaces warm*: Normal; heat is used to prevent condensate.
  • Temperature not cold enough: Check door closure, ventilation, ambient temperature, frequency/duration of door opening, amount of food, temperature setting, proximity to heat sources.
  • Internal light does not come on: Check if appliance is switched on. The light switches off automatically after 15 minutes if the door is open. If the display is lit but the light is not, the lamp may need replacing.
  • Appliance slightly warmed in places on inner surface (below 15°C ambient): This is normal and part of the function.

Customer service:

  • First check for faults yourself (section 7). If the fault persists, contact customer service.
  • WARNING: Risk of injury if repair work is not carried out professionally! Have repairs carried out only by service personnel.
  • Notify customer service with the appliance designation [Diagram 14, (1)], service No. [Diagram 14, (2)], and serial No. [Diagram 14, (3)] from the type plate.
  • Keep the appliance closed until service arrives. Pull out the mains plug or switch off the fuse.

Decommissioning

Switching off the appliance

  • Press the On/Off button [Diagram 3, (1)] until the display goes dark.
  • If the appliance cannot be switched off, the child lock function is active (see 5.2 Child proofing).

Taking the appliance out of service

  • Empty the appliance.
  • Switch off the appliance (see 8.1 Switching off the appliance).
  • Remove the mains connector.
  • Clean the appliance (see 6.2 Cleaning the appliance).
  • Leave the door open to prevent odour.

Disposing of the appliance

Dispose of the appliance properly, as it contains reusable materials. Follow current local regulations and laws. Do not damage the appliance during removal, especially the cooling circuit, to prevent coolant or oil leaks.

For Germany: Free disposal at local recycling centres. Retailers may also take back old appliances under certain conditions.

Decommission the appliance: Pull out the plug. Cut through the connecting cable.
