Elsema COBO 10 240VAC Double Motor Controller Card

Features

Applications

Description

The COBO10 card is used to control automatic door/gate systems that have 240VAC motors with limit switches. It is suitable for single or double gates, including hydraulic doors that may have overflow fluid limits. The COBO10 can disable electronic limit switches for hydraulic doors by linking the limit switches, which is the factory default setting.

Key features of the COBO10 include a built-in lock control, open collector output, photocell control, push button input, limit switch connection, and wireless operation with a remote control transmitter. Additional optional features include an LED output, Auto Closing, and Security Closing.

Connection Instructions

Mains

Connect 240 VAC to the terminal block marked 240 V Active and Neutral. Connect 24 VAC to the terminal marked 24V. This is typically achieved by using a 240 VAC / 24VAC transformer connected between the second 240 VAC terminal block and the 24 Volts In terminal.

Motor Connection

Two motor connections are provided, operating in parallel. Each motor requires three wires: two actives and one neutral. Motor two has a two-second delay on closing to allow double gates to overlap. Motor starting capacitors (10uF, or 6uF upon request) are included, with the value depending on the motor manufacturer.

Limit Switches

For normally closed limit switches, remove straps on the terminal blocks and wire to the relevant limit switches. Low voltage wiring (24V) can be used for this function. For 3-wire limit switch operation, use the two outer holes and the center position of the terminal block (refer to Wiring Diagram).

Travel Timer

The travel timer is set using the trimpot marked TRV (3 to 45 seconds) and is preset to maximum by the factory. To add an extra 30 seconds of travel time, cut the wire link near the travel timer trimpot. For hydraulic operations without limit switches, set the travel timer to stop relays (indicated by LED "TRV-ON") approximately 3 seconds after the gate closes.

Reverse Feature

The reverse feature allows the gates to close when a user presses another activation while the gate is opening. This feature is enabled by cutting wire link S. If link S is not cut, the gate will open fully before it can be closed by the user.

Lock

The lock circuit provides a short pulse on the opening and closing cycle for a standard 12V lock. To extend the lock pulse duration, cut strap marked S1.

Photo Cell Input

Photo Cell Inputs (normally open contact) function as a guard circuit during gate or door closing. If the gate is closing and the photo beam is broken, the gate will stop instantly and then open fully again. If an object obstructs the gate, the closing cycle or "Auto Closing" will be inhibited.

Push Button Input

The push button is a normally open contact. Pressing it initiates the opening or closing cycle. The push button should be waterproof for both internal and external use to prevent false activations caused by moisture.

LED Output

For visual indication of the gate's status at a remote location, a normal LED can be wired to the terminal block marked "LED". The LED will illuminate when the gate is open and turn off when the gate is closed. This requires the "LED" sub-board to be plugged in.

Radio Control

Radio control is achieved by installing Elsema's FMR-201, GLR2701SS, or GLR43301SS receiver. Power to the COBO10 printed circuit board must be switched off during receiver installation. Compatible transmitters include the FMT-301, GLT2701, or GLT43301.

Note: If "AC" (Auto Closing) is used, stopping the door while it is moving upwards will activate the "AC" condition. However, if the door is stopped while moving downwards, "AC" will not time out.

Auto Closing

Auto closing is enabled by plugging in the "AC-2" sub-board into the socket near the terminal block. The AC-timer can be adjusted from 3 seconds to approximately 1 minute. The AC-timer starts when the door is fully open. An input from a PC terminal can hold-off the closing cycle.

Security Closing

Security Closing allows the door to close after a car has cleared the photo beam, even if the door is not fully open. This feature is provided by inserting the "SC-1" sub-board. An Auto-Close timer (3 seconds to 1 minute) on the same board will shut the door after the preset time, provided the photo beam remains unbroken.

X Open Collector Output

The terminal block marked "X" goes negative when the door is moving. This allows a 24V relay to be connected between "X" and the center of the terminal block marked LMT to activate a warning light or horn while the door is in motion.

Important Note: When using the COBO PCB to switch contactors, a VDR (Voltage Dependent Resistor 275V AC) must be connected across the coil of the contactor.

COBO10 Controlled with an External Timer

Using an external timer allows the door to remain open for a preset duration. A diode (e.g., IN 4148 or 1N4004) needs to be connected between the Push Button and Ph Cell terminals.

Wiring Diagram Summary:

The diagram illustrates connections for 24 Volts In, 24 Volts Out, Close Limit Switch (NC), Open Limit Switch (NC), Travel Timer, Wireless Remote Control Receiver (FMR-201 or GLR2701SS), Auto Close/Security Close/LED Option Card insertion, Mains (240V AC Active, Neutral), Motor connections (MOTOR1, MOTOR2 with A-Open, A-Close, Neutral), Fuse (5A), LED Output, Lock Output, X Open Collector Output, Antenna, Push Button (NO), and Photocell (NO).

A dotted enclosure indicates the second motor; this should be left disconnected for single motor configurations.

Caution: Care must be taken not to cross 240V wiring over or under the PCB, as this can induce spikes onto the sensitive circuitry.
