Sleep Tracking

The Index Sleep Monitor wristband automatically monitors your sleep and tracks your movements while you sleep during your specified sleep window. You can set your sleep times in the Garmin Connect app. Sleep statistics include total sleep time, sleep stages, movements during sleep, resting heart rate, and Body Battery™ changes. The Sleep Coach provides recommendations for sleep and performance based on your sleep and activity history and heart rate variability status. You can view your detailed sleep statistics and set your sleep schedule in your Garmin Connect account (Setting a Sleep Schedule, page 7).

For more information, visit www.garmin.com/garmin-technology/health-science/sleep-tracking/.

Body Battery

The wristband determines your Body Battery level overnight by analyzing your heart rate variability, sleep quality, and sleep stages. The Body Battery level is typically highest when you sleep well. Activity and stress consume energy during the day, and naps and rest can slow energy consumption or even increase energy. NOTE: Illness, alcohol, and stress can prevent your Body Battery from fully charging overnight. By syncing your wristband with your Garmin Connect account, you can view your current Body Battery level, long-term trends, and more.

Pulse Oximeter

The Pulse Oximeter on the Index Sleep Monitor wristband measures your blood oxygen saturation. Blood oxygen saturation data may help you assess your overall fitness and how well your body is adapting to altitude. The wristband determines your blood oxygen level by illuminating your skin and measuring how much light is absorbed. This is referred to as SpO2. Your Pulse Oximeter readings appear as an SpO2 percentage in the Garmin Connect app. Here you can find more information about your Pulse Oximeter readings, such as trends over several days and variations in your blood oxygen saturation percentage (Breathing Variations, page 10). For information on Pulse Oximeter accuracy, visit garmin.com/ataccuracy.

Tips if Your Pulse Oximeter Data is Inaccurate

Heart Rate Variability Status

The Index Sleep Monitor wristband analyzes your heart rate readings while you sleep and determines your heart rate variability (HRV), which is the variation in time between heartbeats. Your training, activity, sleep, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle habits all affect your HRV. HRV values can vary significantly based on your gender, age, and fitness level. A balanced HRV status may indicate good overall health, including a good balance of training and recovery, cardiovascular health, and stress resilience. An unbalanced or poor status may indicate fatigue, a need for more recovery, or high stress. For best results, wear the wristband while you sleep. You need three weeks of sleep data to display your HRV status.

By syncing your wristband with your Garmin Connect account, you can view your current HRV status and trends.

Status Description
Balanced Your 7-day average HRV is within your baseline range.
Unbalanced Your 7-day average HRV is above or below your baseline range.
Low Your 7-day average HRV is well below your baseline range.
Poor Your average HRV is well below the normal range for your age.
No Status Data is insufficient to calculate a 7-day average.

Skin Temperature

The sensor on the Index Sleep Monitor wristband monitors variations in your skin temperature while you sleep. Your skin temperature may change over time, which may be related to your recent activity and sleep environment. Skin temperature may also indicate changes in your overall body temperature and potentially signal illness. By tracking trends, you can improve your sleep and overall health. TIP: Women can also track their menstrual or ovulation cycle based on skin temperature variations. For more information, visit www.garmin.com/garmin-technology/health-science/womens-health/. Determine your baseline skin temperature by wearing the wristband while you sleep for three nights.

Breathing Variations

CAUTION: The Index Sleep Monitor is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose or monitor medical conditions. For information on Pulse Oximeter accuracy, visit garmin.com/ataccuracy.

The optical heart rate sensor on the Index Sleep Monitor wristband has a Pulse Oximeter feature that can measure your breathing variations while you sleep. Breathing variation data can increase your awareness of your sleep environment and overall well-being. Occasional or frequent breathing variations may be related to your lifestyle or sleep environment. If you are concerned about the amount of breathing variation, talk to your doctor or other healthcare professional.

On your Garmin Connect account, you can view more details about breathing variations, such as trends over several days.
