Application

The professional two-channel, bass-reflex sound box is recommended for use in larger rooms by professionals, as stage sound, or for bands. The sound box can be installed on a stand, or be laid on its side as a stage monitor. In addition to the speakers, the appliance is equipped with a built-in amplifier, an input mixer, and a multimedia player. External devices can be directly connected, such as: a CD/DVD player, a microphone, musical instruments, a sound mixer, a computer or mobile phone. An external passive sound box can be connected to the speaker output (available separately: PAX 42PRO). As in case of all stage sound boxes, sound will be mono even with two sound boxes connected.

Installation and Operation

Ensure that connection corresponds to the function displayed on the control panel. Make all connections of the sound system with the power supply disconnected! Turn off both the sound box and the device to be connected. Make sure that the connectors have correct wiring and polarity. Route the microphone cable, audio connection cables and speaker cables separately from the power supply cable! Connect the connection cable first to the sound box, while it is switched off, then to the wall socket. Before powering the appliance, check the connections for correct configuration! Ensure that all connections are stable and free of short circuit fault, and that the VOLUME volume-control is set to minimum position, in order to avoid damage to the speakers due to a sudden blast of noise when turned on!

Use the POWER switch on the rear panel to turn the sound box on and off. After switching on, the display lights up and the “NO” message indicates that the system is waiting for the connection of a USB or SD device. To start using the speaker, select the desired operating mode with the MODE button.

Volume Control and Tone Adjustment, Selecting Functions

  • Master volume-control: VOLUME knob
  • Tone adjustment: Adjust the tone of played tracks using the two knobs under the VOLUME volume-control knob on the rear control panel. Treble (TREBLE) and bass (BASS) tone can be adjusted. This setting will effect playback in all operating modes. In case of tracks played through BT connection or from a USB/SD storage media, further tone adjustment is possible. Select one of the pre-set tone settings (musical styles) using the EQ button on the remote-control; NORMAL / ROCK / POP / CLASSIC / JAZZ / CUT.
  • Multimedia player: The volume of the multimedia unit can be controlled separately by pressing and holding down the ◄►►►► (VOL-, VOL+) buttons, or with the remote-control. A short pressing down of the button can activate a different function, depending on the operating mode being used.
  • Press the MODE button to toggle operating modes. Available functions: MP3-WMA-FLAC-WAV-APE audio file playback from external USB/SD device, FM radio and wireless BT connection.
  • Controls of other signal sources: multimedia unit (MP3 LEVEL), microphone volume (MIC LEVEL) and LINE IN input (LINE LEVEL).

Maximum Volume Setting

All speakers should be run in before normal use. During the first 30 to 50 hours of operation, it is recommended to operate the speakers with up to 50% volume setting! Higher volume levels - in some cases - can result in distorted, low sound quality. This may be due to an excessively high input signal. In order to avoid this, decrease the signal level of the given input channel, or the master volume (VOLUME), if the CLIP LED (over control indicator) lights up. The maximum volume of the system is the one that can still be heard in good quality without distortion.

[!] Increasing the volume any further will not increase power output and will increase the distortion of the system! This can damage the speakers, and lead to defects.

[!] Only set the volume to a level until no distortion can be heard! Sound quality can be influenced by the settings of the compression (rendering) program used for the MP3, etc. tracks and by the volume/tone setting of the given external audio device or mobile device.

Playback from External Storage

The multimedia player is in ready state, when its display is lit. In case of connection of both a USB and an SD signal source, select the desired source by briefly pressing the MODE button. When playback is started from the SD card, after playing the content on the card, the USB device will be activated. The display shows the time elapsed for the current track or the track number when scrolling.

To start playback press the ►II button, but playback will also start automatically when the external device is inserted. Use the same button to pause playback (PAUS appears on the display), or select a desired track using the forward/back step buttons.

Select playback mode using the REPT button; ALL: repeat all tracks / ONE: repeat one track / RANDOM: random playback order / FOLDER: repeat folder

  • When you turn on the unit, you can resume playback of the last played track.
  • The recommended file system for the storage device is FAT32. Do not use an NTFS formatted storage device.
  • If the device does not emit sound, or it does not recognise the USB storage device, remove and insert the external device and select the desired function again using the MODE button. If necessary, turn the power off and back on again.
  • Only remove the external storage device after selecting a different playback source with the MODE button, or after the device is switched off. Otherwise, the data may be damaged. Do not remove the connected external unit during playback!
  • Storage media can only be inserted in one direction. If it stops, turn it over and try again; do not force it. Do not touch the contacts with your hand.
  • Take care not to damage any devices projecting from the appliance!
  • Abnormal operation may be caused by the individual characteristics of the storage device; this is not a sign of product malfunction.

Using the Radio

Select the FM radio mode with the MODE button. The display shows the tuned frequency.

To start automatic tuning and storage of radio stations, briefly press the ►II (PLAY/PAUSE/FOLDER) button. When the scan is complete, the device will start playing the first radio station found. Press the and buttons briefly to select further stations. The radio station is shown on the display with the respective program location (CH01...02...).

  • The search stops when it detects varying signal strength – this does not always mean that a radio program is found.
  • The reception capability of the radio largely depends on the place of use and the current reception conditions.
  • In order to increase the efficiency of the built-in antenna, position the appliance so that it has the best reception! Electrical appliances and large-sized metal objects in the vicinity can disturb radio reception.

Line Audio Inputs (MIC INPUT, LINE IN) and Outputs (LINE OUT, SPEAKER OUT)

The following options are available for connecting external devices with a headphone or audio output jack to the built-in amplifier:

  • MIC INPUT: Ø6.3 mm + XLR input with separate volume-control, for microphone
  • LINE IN: 2xRCA connector for devices with a stereo audio output + XLR input for use from an external sound mixer
  • LINE OUT: symmetrical mono output Ø6.3 mm + XLR output external amplifier, sound mixer for amplifier (only works with correctly connected cables and a compatible amplifier or sound mixer)
  • SPEAKER OUT: SPEAKON connector exclusively for a passive sound box with an impedance of 8 Ohms (available separately: PAX 42PRO)

[!] Sound quality depends on the quality of the audio signal received from the external device and the volume and tone settings of the given device.

[!] In certain cases a connection adapter may be required for proper connection.

[!] For more information, refer to the user instructions of the device to be connected.

Wireless BT Connection

Within a maximum range of 10 meters, the unit can be paired with other equipment communicating according to the BT protocol. After pairing, you can listen to music played on your mobile phone, tablet, notebook or other similar device. Select the BLUE function using the MODE button. Locate nearby wireless BT devices, including this sound box in accordance with the user instructions of the device to be connected. Connect the two devices. Until pairing is completed, BLUE and BT will be flashing on the display. After successful pairing, a sound signal will be heard from the speaker. The desired tracks can now be played on the sound box. The player application (e.g. on a mobile phone) of the playback device can normally be remotely controlled by briefly pressing the and ►II buttons. This depends on the given device used.

  • One speaker can be paired with one BT device at a time.
  • When you turn on the product, the device already paired and properly connected will reconnect automatically, provided that it is turned on and located nearby.
  • If the wireless connection is lost, if necessary, press the MODE button until the BT function is accessed again and the pairing mode is reactivated.
  • If you receive a phone call to the connected mobile phone while listening to music, the music will pause. After the call, resume playback on the phone.
  • In certain cases, the BT functionality may be limited due to the individual features of the external device.
  • The actual range depends on the other device and the environmental conditions (e.g. walls, human bodies, other electrical appliances, movement...)
  • Nearby electrical appliances can result in abnormal operation or noise, this does not indicate a malfunction of the device!

BT TWS Wireless Connection

TWS mode: the pairing of two sound boxes of equivalent type with the same BT name with one another and a mobile phone. In this case the two sound boxes will work together as a wireless sound system. As in case of all stage sound boxes, sound will be mono even with two sound boxes connected. An additional passive sound box can be line connected to each active sound box. This way up to four high-power sound boxes can be used simultaneously.

Connect the first sound box to the phone, as described above. This will be the primary, master speaker. Turn on the second sound box and set it to BT mode. Press and hold down (for 3-5 sec) the REPT/TWS button. Pairing is completed when the BT symbol is lit continuously on the displays of both sound boxes. To disconnect the two sound boxes press and hold down the same button - on either sound box.

To put the remote-control into operation, pull out the insulating sheet sticking out from the battery compartment, if equipped. If you subsequently experience unstable operation or reduced range, replace the battery with a new one: CR 2025; 3V button cell.

[!] Direct the remote-control towards the front or rear panel of the sound box during use (receivers are located on both panels), and ensure that the appliance is within 2-4 meters distance!

[!] To replace the battery, turn the remote-control with the buttons facing down and pull out the battery tray together with the battery. Make sure that the positive side of the inserted battery is facing upwards. Follow the instructions on the back of the remote control.

[!] If the device is not used for a longer period, remove the batteries. Remove any depleted batteries right away. Battery replacement must be performed by an adult. Keep batteries away from the reach of children. If any fluids have leaked from the batteries, clean the battery compartment with a dry cloth wearing protective gloves.

[!] Caution! Incorrect battery replacement can cause explosion hazard. Only use equivalent, or interchangeable batteries for replacement. Do not expose batteries to direct heat or sunlight. Never open, place into fire or short circuit the batteries. Never charge non-rechargeable batteries. Explosion hazard!
