Model # SC-902
Thank you for purchasing the HoMedics® Smart Scale™ with Bluetooth® 4.0 technology. This manual will guide you through the setup process and provide key information about the scale.
The scale uses Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to estimate body fat, total body water, and muscle mass. It sends a harmless electrical signal into the body to estimate these percentages. It is intended for adult use in the home.
CAUTION: Do not use this device if you are pregnant, acutely or chronically ill, suffering from a disease, taking medications affecting water levels, or have a pacemaker or internal medical device. Information provided is not medical advice. Do not step on the scale with wet feet.
Front & Back View: The scale features a platform with electrodes for measurements, a display screen (LCD Readout), and buttons for operation. The back houses the battery compartment and a unit of measure/connect button.
LCD Readout & Button Description: Displays measurements like weight, body fat (FAT), total body water (TBW), muscle mass (MUS), calorie estimate (CAL), user ID (P1-P8), age, and unit of measurement (lb, kg, st). Buttons include SET, p/q (Up/Down), and UNIT/CONNECT.
Operates on 3 AAA alkaline batteries (included). Open the battery cover, remove plastic wrap, and insert batteries ensuring correct polarity. Always replace all batteries at once. Do not mix battery types.
Automatic Shut-Off: The scale turns off automatically after 10 seconds of inactivity or after displaying a locked measurement to conserve battery life.
Estimates daily calorie needs based on body composition and user data to aid in weight management plans.
The scale can be used with or without Bluetooth® data transmission.
Note: If sharing the scale, ensure users are aware of selected memory numbers to avoid profile overwrites.
Note: Reconnecting is not necessary after battery replacement if the scale was previously paired.
Go to Settings in the app and delete the scale device to disconnect.
Your scale defaults to pounds (lb). Press the "UNIT / CONNECT" button for single clicks to change between kilograms (kg) or stone (st lb). Press and hold to initiate Bluetooth connection.
Download the FREE SmarTrack™ app from the App Store or Google Play. Register and create your personal profile (gender, height, age, activity level, goal weight) for accurate measurements.
Choose from five levels: Sedentary, Limited Activity, Moderate Activity, Very Active, Extremely Active.
From the app's home page, tap the edit user icon, then goal weight. Set your goal weight and date.
Tap the user profile icon in the app to modify existing data.
After initial setup and weighing, the scale automatically recognizes users within +/- 4.4 lbs (2 kg). If multiple users are in range, you will be prompted to select the correct user number.
A ? icon indicates a successful Bluetooth® connection. A "transferring" icon appears during transmission and disappears upon completion. If the ? icon remains, transmission failed; data is stored for the next measurement.
Data is only transmitted if assigned to a specific memory number.
From the app's home page, tap the dashboard to view graphs and data. Tap measurements to see details. Use the page icon to see a full list or to manually enter weight. Use the back arrow [←] to return.
Tap the share button in the app to share data via Facebook, Twitter, or email.
Connect to other apps via the settings menu ⚙️ by sliding the connection switch to ON.
The scale synchronizes with your device. Measurements taken without immediate upload are stored in the scale's memory and transmitted later. The SmarTrack app stores unlimited results, with new measurements overwriting older ones. Data is saved to the cloud.
Use the scale as a basic weight scale or for one-time body composition estimates.
Press the "UNIT" button to select pounds (lb), kilograms (kg), or stone (st lb).
Initialize the scale, then step on. The scale will display your weight and automatically turn off after 10 seconds. Weight-only readings are not saved or transmitted.
Requires entering personal data: age, height, gender, normal/athlete, and activity level.
Notes: User profiles entered directly on the scale cannot be deleted but can be overridden by app profiles. Battery changes do not erase user data entered on the scale.
Same as Bluetooth procedures: flat surface, bare feet, proper foot placement, balanced weight, consistent timing, and initialization.
Note: If Bluetooth is ON, results transmit to the device and scale display is blank. If user number is not identified, only weight displays.
Scale automatically recognizes users based on weight (within +/- 4.4 lbs / 2 kg). If multiple users are in range, select the correct user number using [▲]/[▼] and SET.
Weight change alone doesn't distinguish between fat and muscle loss. Monitoring %BF is key for weight management and health. Optimal %BF varies by age and gender.

Estimated using Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). A low-intensity electrical signal is sent through the body. The difficulty the signal encounters (impedance) is measured to estimate %BF. %BF and %TBW may not add up to 100%.
Note: %BF estimates are approximations. Consult a physician for clinical methods.
Water is essential for body functions, making up 50-70% of body weight. Monitoring %TBW can be a health indicator. Hydration levels and certain diseases can affect %TBW.

---|---|
Men | 4 to 14%: 70 to 63% 15 to 21%: 63 to 57% 22 to 24%: 57 to 55% 25 and over: 55 to 37% |
Women | 4 to 20%: 70 to 58% 21 to 29%: 58 to 52% 30 to 32%: 52 to 49% 33 and over: 49 to 37% |

Note: %TBW estimates are approximations. Consult a physician for clinical methods.
For best accuracy, use at the same time daily (e.g., before breakfast) and avoid hydration swings. Tracking your own baseline changes is more valuable than comparing to population norms.
Estimates daily calorie needs based on body composition and user data, useful for weight management and exercise programs.
Lean muscle mass decreases with age. Maintaining muscle mass is important for strength, bone density, joint flexibility, and metabolism. Gaining muscle burns more calories.
Using Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). A small current passes through the body via the feet. The resistance (impedance) to this current is used to estimate body fat and body water. The current is minimal and may not be felt.
The BIA technology is safe, non-invasive, and harmless, with current measured at less than 1mA. However, individuals with pacemakers or other implantable medical devices should avoid using this device. It is also not recommended for pregnant women due to unknown effects on the fetus.
Body fat estimation using BIA may overestimate %BF in elite athletes due to physiological variations in bone density and hydration. Athlete Mode adjusts for this.
For this scale, an athlete is defined as a person who consistently works out approximately 3 times per week for 2 hours per occurrence. Professional athletes or bodybuilders may require specialized calibration.
Low Batteries: Replace when "Lo" is displayed, readings dim, or scale shuts off quickly.
WARNING: Batteries may pose a choking hazard. Keep away from children.
NOTE: Recycle or dispose of batteries according to local regulations.
Maintaining proper weight is essential for health. The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a common measurement. Use the chart to determine your BMI by matching height and weight. A BMI of 25-29 is overweight; 30+ is obese.
