Anko DIY Crochet Coasters Kit
Instruction Manual
About the Kit
This instruction manual guides you through creating your own crochet coasters using the Anko DIY Crochet Coasters Kit.
Kit Includes
- 6 x crochet yarn colours
- 1 x crochet hook
- 1 x plastic needle
- 1 x instruction sheet
Tips
- Find many great video tutorials online for stitches and methods.
- Create a loose weave by not pulling the stitches too tightly.
- To change yarn colour: work the last stitch until you have 2 loops left on your hook. Introduce the new colour by folding the new yarn, leaving about 4 inches of tail, and drawing it through the 2 loops on the hook to complete the stitch.
Basic Crochet Stitches
Slip Knot
Description: The slip knot is the most common starting point for crochet projects. To create one, make a loop about 15cm into your yarn. Insert your hook into the yarn and pull the end attached to the yarn ball through the loop, then pull it tight. You now have a slip knot on your hook, ready to start crocheting.
Chain Stitch (Abbreviated 'ch')
Description: The chain stitch is the basis for all crochet, also called a foundation chain. Start with a slip knot on your hook. Move your hook under your yarn to create a yarn over. Move the hook back through the loop already on your hook, catching the working yarn. This makes your first chain. Repeat these steps to make more chains. Hold the stitches close to the hook for stability.
Double Crochet (Abbreviated 'dc')
Description: Make a foundation chain to the required length. For a piece 20 stitches wide, chain 21. Identify the 2nd chain from your hook and insert your hook there. Yarn over, then draw up a loop (you will have 2 loops on your hook). Yarn over and draw the yarn through both loops on the hook, leaving 1 loop on your hook. You have completed the stitch.
Treble Crochet (Abbreviated 'tr')
Description: Make a foundation chain to the required length. For a precise number of stitches, chain that many plus 2. Find the 4th chain from the hook. Yarn over and insert your hook into the 4th chain from the hook. Yarn over, then draw up a loop (there should be 3 loops on your hook). Yarn over, then draw the yarn through 2 of the loops on your hook (there should be 2 loops left). Yarn over and draw the yarn through the remaining 2 loops on the hook. You have completed the stitch and should have 1 loop on your hook.
Slip Stitch (Abbreviated 'sl st' or 'ss')
Description: Make a foundation chain to the required length. For a precise number of stitches, chain that many plus one extra. Identify the 2nd chain from your hook. Insert your hook into the 2nd chain from the hook and yarn over. Pull your hook back through the chain (there should be 2 loops on your hook). Without yarning over, pull the yarn through the 2nd loop on the hook. You have completed the stitch and should have 1 loop on your hook. Repeat steps to finish the row.
Fasten Off (Abbreviated 'F/O')
Description: Once your last stitch is made, you will have one loop left on your hook. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail approximately 15cm long. Wrap the yarn around the hook and pull it through the loop. Remove the hook and pull the yarn tail to tighten it, creating a knot to prevent unraveling.
