Human Touch PC-500 Troubleshooting Guide
Silhouette Power Series 2
Introduction
This Troubleshooting Guide provides step-by-step instructions for diagnosing and resolving common issues encountered with the PC-500 massage chair. Following these steps carefully will help ensure accurate problem diagnosis and appropriate repair actions.
Assembly Issues
Headrest Frame Installation
Issue: I cannot install the headrest frame.
Solution: Ensure the screws located near the end of each post have been removed prior to attempting to install the headrest frame.
Getting Started
- If the chair has cosmetic damage, replace the damaged part.
- Choose the relevant issue from the table below:
Issue | Recommended Action |
---|---|
My chair will not recline/incline properly. | See "Electric Recline" section on page 2. |
My chair makes noise when I incline/recline. | See "Noise" section on page 3. |
My chair feels bumpy when reclining. | The complex mechanism that enables the footrest to fold inward after the chair is fully inclined creates a slight bump when reclining as it locks, and when inclining as it unlocks. This is normal. |
My recline lever is broken. | Replace the recline lever. |
The armrest core cable is broken. | Replace the armrest core. |
My footrest is broken. | Replace the mechanical footrest assembly. |
My footrest pads drag on the ground when I fully retract the footrest. | When installing the seat pad, ensure the lower corners of the footrest frame are installed into the corresponding holes in the bottom corners of the seat pad. Failure to do so will prevent the bottom of the seat pad from retracting with the footrest. |
Electric Recline
The Chair Recline/Incline is Erratic
If your chair continues to recline or incline significantly after releasing the recline lever, unplug the chair from the wall outlet, then plug it back in. The issue should resolve. If it persists:
- Replace the left armrest core.
- If the issue remains unresolved, replace the recline actuator.
The Chair Will Not Recline or Incline
- Verify that the chair is plugged into a working wall outlet.
- Ensure weight is distributed across the chair (not just on the backrest) when attempting to recline. Insufficient weight distribution can prevent reclining.
- Check that nothing is pressing against the footrest when attempting to recline, as this can also prevent reclining.
- Replace the recline actuator.
- If replacing the recline actuator does not solve the problem:
- Remove the left-hand armrest core (refer to repair instructions titled "Replacing the Armrest Core").
- On the bottom of the chair, open the connector junction box cover. Disconnect the connectors, then plug the armrest core directly into the recline actuator connector. Test the armrest core function.
- If the armrest does not function, replace the left-hand armrest core with its switch.
- If the armrest core functions correctly, the electrical cable connecting the recline actuator to the armrest is likely defective. Replace the chair.
Noise
It is important to differentiate between typical noises and those indicating a problem. Typical noises may include upholstery rubbing, the electronic recline switch clicking, or normal operation of the folding footrest assembly.
Rubbing or Squeaking Sound
This noise is typically normal and caused by the body pad rubbing against the side of the chair. To minimize this noise:
- Reinstall the pads, ensuring they are centered carefully during installation.
- Check for uneven clearance between the backrest and the sides of the chair. Adjust the backrest to be centered between the two sides of the chair, similar to centering a bicycle tire between brake pads.
Soft Clicking Sound When Engaging the Recline Handle
This noise is normal.
Slight Mechanical Noise When Reclining or Inclining
The complex mechanism that allows the footrest to fold inward after the chair is fully inclined emits a minor mechanical sound as it locks during reclining and unlocks during inclining. This is normal.
