Dimensions and Installation Information (in Inches)
Local Installation Regulations
This water heater must be installed in accordance with these instructions, local codes, utility codes, utility company requirements, or, in the absence of local codes, the latest edition of the National Electrical Code. Information is available from some local libraries or can be purchased from the National Fire Preventions Association, Batterymarch park, Quincy, MA 02169 as booklet ANSI/NFPA 70.
Installation Information
For complete information, refer to the installation instructions packed with your water heater.
Power Requirements
Check the markings on the rating plate of the water heater to confirm the power supply corresponds to the water heater requirements.
Location
Locate the water heater in a clean, dry area as near as practical to the area of greatest heated water demand. Long, uninsulated hot water lines can waste energy and water.
Required Clearances
There must be sufficient clearance between any object and the top, rear, and sides of the water heater for service access. The controls and drain at the front of the unit must have clear access for operation and service. Installations requiring minimal clearance on the sides or rear for earthquake straps are acceptable; in these cases, additional clearance should be provided on the opposite side of the unit to allow for service access.
Typical Horizontal Installation
A diagram illustrates a typical horizontal installation setup for a natural gas water heater. Key components shown include: Hot Water Outlet to fixtures, Unions, Manual Gas Shut-off Valve, Vent Pipe to Chimney, Thermal Expansion Tank, Cold Water Supply, Vent Hood, Temperature and Pressure Relief Valve, Drain Valve, Sediment Trap, and Combustion Air Inlets. The diagram notes a required vertical pitch of at least 1/4 inch per foot for the vent pipe and specifies that the Relief Valve discharge should be within 6 inches of the floor, no closer than 2 times the pipe diameter per local code. A note indicates this illustration is for dimensional reference only, and users should refer to the photograph for actual product appearance.
Product Dimensions
A side view of the water heater shows its cylindrical shape. Key dimensions are indicated: 20 inches in width and 58-1/2 inches in height.
