Roughing-In Dimensions

To ensure proper positioning in relation to the wall, note the following roughing-in dimensions:

Note: Specific model connections like 1660.505 (1/2" NPSM) and 1660.502 (1/2" NPSM) are also indicated in the diagram.

Installation Steps

Step 1: Install the R1211SS Valve Body

Refer to the separate installation instructions (M965661) supplied with the valve body for complete details. When soldering, remove the PLASTER GUARD, CARTRIDGES, and CHECK STOPS. After soldering, flush the valve body, replace cartridges and check stops, and reinstall the plaster guard. Use thread sealant or Teflon tape on threaded connections. Connections are 1/2" NOM Copper Sweat or 1/2" NPT inlets, and 1/2" NOM Copper Sweat or 1/2" NPT tub and shower outlets. A 1/2" sweat plug may be used if the tub outlet is not needed.

Step 2: Install the R422 Two-Way Diverter

Refer to the separate installation instructions (M965673) supplied with the diverter. The reverse side of the body is marked with arrows. Caution: Do not solder near the valve to avoid damaging the seal. Do not seal any outlets. The diverter cannot be used as a stop valve. Use thread sealant or sealing tape on threaded connections. See the roughing-in diagram; the port with the bathtub picture indicates the high flow. The diverter can be installed with the inlet rotated in any position. All connections are 1/2" NPT. Ensure the finished wall is within the side of the PLASTER GUARD for proper positioning. Connect the R422 Two-Way Diverter to the R120SS Valve Body.

Step 3: Make All Concealed Piping Connections

Refer to the roughing-in diagram. Make Hot and Cold supply connections to the Valve BODY (1/2" copper sweat). Make the SHOWER connection from the DIVERTER using the port with the BATH TUB picture (1/2" NPT). Make the connections for the HAND SHOWER (1/2" NPT). For support, use pipe braces secured to wooden braces. Cap off the SHOWER and HAND SHOWER outlets. With the R120SS Valve turned off, turn on water supplies and check for leaks. Finish all wall construction.

Step 4: Install Valve Trim

Refer to the separate installation instructions (M968763) supplied with the valve trim kit. When the wall is tiled, remove the PLASTER GUARD. Remove the plug from the shower pipe.

Step 5: Install Diverter Trim and Handle

When the wall is tiled, remove the PLASTER GUARD. Place the ESCUTCHEON (1) onto the ESCUTCHEON HOLDER (2). Thread the ESCUTCHEON HOLDER (2) onto the DIVERTER VALVE (3) until the ESCUTCHEON (1) is snug against the finished wall. Install the HANDLE SKIRT (4) onto the VALVE STEM (5). Push the DECORATIVE RING (6) onto the LEVER HANDLE (7). Align the LEVER HANDLE (7) and push it onto the HANDLE SKIRT (4). Install the HANDLE SCREW (8) and tighten. Push the INDEX CAP (9) into the LEVER HANDLE (7).

Step 6: Install Wall Supply

Refer to the separate installation instructions (M968637) supplied with the wall supply. The supply to the WALL SUPPLY is 1/2" NPT. Apply sealant or sealing tape to the threads of the 1/2" NPT supply nipple.

Step 7: Install Hand Shower Slide Bar

Refer to the separate installation instructions (M968637) supplied with the shower system kit. Warning: This slide bar is NOT designed to be a grab bar. The height and location of the SLIDE BAR are optional and can be installed to the right or left side of the R120SS Valve. The slide bar is approximately 33-3/8" (848 mm) to 35-3/8" (899 mm) in length.

Step 8: Install Hose and Hand Shower, Test Shower System

Refer to the separate installation instructions (M968637) supplied with the shower system kit. After all hose connections are made, place the HAND SHOWER into the SLIDE BAR. The installation of the SHOWER SYSTEM KIT is now complete. Turn on water supplies and check all functions of the SHOWER SYSTEM KIT. Check for any leaks.
