1. Before You Use
Please read this electronic manual carefully and use it correctly.
For Safe Use
Please be sure to read the section "For Safe Use" ⚠️ in the Wii U Menu before using the product. This section contains important information for your health and safety. If the user is a small child, please have a guardian read and explain it carefully.
2. Usable Controllers
You can use the Wii U GamePad or the Wii U PRO Controller registered to the main unit.
Wii U GamePad
Wii U PRO Controller
Note: Only one GamePad can be registered.
Controller Registration Method
From the HOME button menu, select "Controller Settings". The screen on the right will be displayed. After selecting "Register", follow the on-screen instructions.

3. What You Can Do Online
By connecting to the internet, you can enjoy the following:
- Using Miiverse ➡️ See section 16.
For information on internet connection, please refer to the "Internet Settings" section in the Wii U instruction manual (booklet).
4. To Guardians
This section is for adults to read.
If you wish to restrict your child's use, please select the items you wish to restrict from "Parental Controls" ⚙️ in the Wii U Menu. With this software, you can restrict the following content:

5. What Kind of Game?
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD is an action-adventure game that is a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, which was originally released as a dedicated software for the Nintendo GameCube. You will embark on an adventure to save important people, solve puzzles, and battle enemies.

6. How to Get Started
First, choose whether to use the Wii U GamePad or the Wii U PRO Controller.
When starting a new game, select "Start a New Journey" on the data selection screen. To continue playing, select "Start" from the existing journey data.
Note: Selecting '?' will allow you to view the electronic manual.
Start a New Game
Enter the names of the protagonist and horse, then select the difficulty level. The game will begin once you select the difficulty level.
Note: The chosen names and difficulty level cannot be changed later.
Menu Operations
The items displayed on the Wii U GamePad are generally operated by touching the screen. Some screens allow the following operations:
- Cursor Movement: ⬆️/⬇️/⬅️/➡️
- Decision: Ⓐ
- Back: Ⓑ
7. Saving and Deleting Data
Saving Data
Your game progress can be saved by selecting "Save" from "Collect & Equip" ➡️ 11. You may be prompted to save after certain events.
Note: If you end the game after saving, you may start from a different point than your last save when continuing.
Copying and Deleting Data
This can be done after selecting a journey record.
- Copy: Overwrites data to another journey record.
- Delete: Deletes the data of the journey record.
Note: When overwriting or deleting data, please confirm the contents carefully. Data that has been overwritten or deleted cannot be restored.
8. Main Screen
1. Life Gauge: Decreases as you take damage from enemy attacks or falls. When it reaches zero, it's game over.
2. Talk to Midna 14: An icon will light up when Midna speaks to you.
3. Display Toggle: Use ❎ to switch between the map screen ?️, Collect & Equip screen ?️, and toggle the minimap display ?.

5. Action Icons: Displays actions available by button press and equipped items.
6. Display Actions Based on Situation: Shows actions specifically required for the current situation.

Special Gauges
The following gauges are also displayed according to game progress. For details, please refer to the in-game explanations.
- Light Vessel Gauge: Displays the number of Light Tears collected when you possess the Light Vessel.
- Oxygen Gauge: Displayed when underwater. If it depletes, it's game over.
Playing with Wii U GamePad Only
Normally, the GamePad displays the minimap or item screen. By pressing ❎, the main screen is displayed, allowing you to play using only the GamePad.
Note: Press ❎ again to return to the normal display.
Game Over
If your Life Gauge or Oxygen Gauge depletes, it's game over. Selecting "Continue Game" ▶️ will restart from just before the game ended. Selecting "Return to Title" ? will return you to the title screen.
9. Item Screen
Touching "Items" on the Wii U GamePad displays the item screen. When playing with only the Wii U GamePad or with the Wii U PRO Controller, pressing ❎ will display the item screen.
Setting and Using Items
Touch and slide an item to set it to a button. During pause, you can also select an item by touch and set it using Ⓧ/Ⓨ/Ⓩ. On the main screen, pressing Ⓧ/Ⓨ/Ⓩ will use the set item.
Note: Selecting an item during pause and pressing Ⓐ will display its description.
Note: Pressing Ⓐ while using an item will put it away.
Chuchu (Midna's Son)
Using Chuchu in a dungeon allows you to leave it behind and warp outside. To return to where Chuchu is, use its son. If you return to the dungeon entrance without using its son, you will not be able to warp back to the location where you used Chuchu.

Fishing Rod
Cast your line into rivers and lakes to fish. When a fish bites, hold the button assigned to the fishing rod to reel it in.
Note: When the fishing rod is set, using a bottle containing insects or worms will bait the hook.
Slingshot
While holding the set button, move the aiming reticle by tilting the GamePad. You can also aim with ◉. Releasing the button will fire the ammo.
Note: Aiming with ◉ while focusing on a target allows for precise aiming.
Lantern
Use it to illuminate your surroundings, light fires, or burn things. You can also use other items while the lantern is equipped.
Note: Using a bottle filled with oil while the lantern is equipped will replenish its oil.
Empty Bottle
Used to hold recovery items like potions, drinks, lantern oil, fishing bait, or fairies.
Bombs
Deal damage with the blast, break walls, or create holes. Hold the set button to pick them up, throw them, or place them.
Boomerang
Throw the boomerang to create wind, stunning enemies in distant locations or carrying objects. Basic controls are the same as the Slingshot; press Ⓩ to lock onto multiple targets.
Hero's Bow
Shoot distant enemies or activate switches within dungeons. Basic controls are the same as the Slingshot. In the item screen, when the bow is set, slide it to the bomb synthesis slot, or select it and press Ⓨ to synthesize bombs and the bow.
10. Map Screen
Pressing ❎ on the main screen displays the field map for areas outside dungeons, and the dungeon map within dungeons. Pressing ❎ again returns you to the main screen. Pressing Ⓐ zooms in, and pressing Ⓩ zooms out or returns to the main screen.
Field Map
On the field map, touch a location to display it. Use ◉ to move the cursor, and Ⓐ or Ⓩ to zoom in or out of the map.

Dungeon Map
You can switch dungeon floors using ◉.

- 1. Dungeon Floors: Current floor, Floor with Boss.
- 2. Map Display: Current Room, Rooms Visited, Unvisited Rooms, Doors, Chests (displayed after obtaining Compass), Bosses (displayed after obtaining Compass).
- 3. Dungeon Map: Displays all rooms once obtained.
- 4. Compass: Shows the location of chests and bosses once obtained.
- 5. Key to Boss Room: Unlocks the door to the boss room once obtained.
Minimap
Touching "Minimap" on the Wii U GamePad displays a map of your current location. Touching ? or ? zooms in or out.
Note: Some icons on the field map and dungeon map are displayed similarly on the minimap.
11. Collect & Equip
Pressing ❎ on the main screen allows you to check status, save data, and change game settings.

- 1. Heart Container Pieces: Collecting five Heart Container Pieces turns them into a Heart Container +8, increasing your maximum life gauge by one.
- 2. Collected Items
- 3. Equipment: Equipped items are displayed larger.
- 4. Shadow Crystal: This mysterious object that Midna seeks 14 is displayed when obtained.
- 5. Amiibo: The Amiibo mark appears as you progress, allowing you to use Amiibo ➡️ See section 18.
Changing Game Settings
Select "Options" to change the following settings:
- Focus Type: Select "Hold" to focus by holding Ⓨ, or "Switch" to toggle focus with Ⓩ.
- Furigana: Choose whether to display Furigana as "On/Off".
- Camera Control: Select from four camera control methods.
- Underwater/Aerial Control: Select from four control methods for underwater and aerial maneuvers.
- Camera When Aiming: Choose between "First-Person View" or "Third-Person View" when using the Slingshot or Bow.
- Vibration: Choose whether vibration is "On/Off".
- Motion Control: Choose whether motion control is "On/Off".
- Brightness: Adjust brightness by moving the arrow left or right.
12. Basic Actions
Walking/Running/Swimming/Jumping
Use ◉ to move (swim underwater). Speed changes based on the tilt angle of ◉. You will automatically jump when running towards a distant platform. Pressing Ⓐ while moving forward will perform a rolling attack, allowing you to hit walls.
Sword Techniques
- Spin Attack: Press Ⓨ repeatedly to perform a series of slashes.
- Spinning Slash: Hold Ⓨ and release, or press Ⓨ + Ⓑ for a spinning attack.
Focus/Shield Defense
Hold Ⓩ. The mark above enemies will change from ♥ to ↓, allowing you to focus on them. While focused, you can defend with your shield and fight without losing sight of the enemy.
Note: Focusing on distant people or objects allows you to talk to them or observe them by pressing Ⓐ.
- Vertical Slash: Ⓨ + Ⓑ
- Thrust: Ⓨ + Ⓐ
- Jump Attack: Ⓨ + Ⓐ
- Side Hop: Ⓨ + Ⓐ
- Backflip: Ⓨ + Ⓐ
Camera Operations
- Switch Camera: Ⓨ
- Look Around: Ⓩ
Note: When the camera is switched to first-person view, you can also look around by tilting the Wii U GamePad.
13. Actions Based on Situation
Actions Based on Situation
Press Ⓐ to perform actions based on the situation.
- Talk/Check/Open: Talk to people, check signs or suspicious objects, or open doors and chests.
- Crawl In: Enter small crawl spaces. Inside, use ◉ to move forward and backward or choose your path.
- Pick Up/Throw: After picking up objects like stones or pots, press Ⓐ to place them down. While moving or focusing with ◉, press Ⓐ to throw the object.
- Grab/Push/Pull: After grabbing movable crates with Ⓐ, push them with ◉ or pull them.
Blowing Grass Whistle
In the field, there are areas with grass that can be used for the grass whistle. Approach it and perform the "Pick" → "Blow" actions with Ⓐ to blow the grass whistle. There are two types: one to call horses and one to call hawks.
Horse Controls
Approach a horse and press Ⓐ to mount it. Press Ⓐ again to dismount when stopped.
Gallop
Move with ◉. Gently tilt ◉ backward to reverse, or tilt it forward quickly to turn.
Dash
While moving, press Ⓐ to consume a dash icon and dash for a set duration. You can jump over fences and obstacles while dashing.
Note: Dash icons indicate the number of dashes available. Consumed dash icons regenerate over time.
14. Actions as an Animal
As the game progresses, the protagonist may transform into an animal. While in animal form, some controls differ, and you cannot use items.
Actions Based on Situation
Press Ⓐ to dash while moving or talk to animals, performing actions based on the situation.
Bite/Grab
Push crates by pressing Ⓐ and tilting ◉. Grab pots by pressing Ⓐ.
Sense
Press ③ to see things normally invisible, or to sense the direction of scents. When searching for something, use Sense mode to investigate.

Dig
Dig the ground with ①. You can retrieve buried items or reach areas beyond doors and fences.
Attack
- Bite: Ⓑ
- Jump Attack: Ⓨ + Ⓐ
- Spin Attack: Hold Ⓨ and release, or press Ⓨ (one rotation) + Ⓑ
- Barrier Attack: While Midna is on your back, hold Ⓑ and release.
- Multi-Attack: Hold Ⓑ and release.
Howl
When in animal form, approach areas with grass for the grass whistle. Howl by matching the pitch (blue line) with ◉ ↑/↓ and pressing Ⓐ.
Borrowing Midna's Power
Upon meeting the character Midna, you can talk to her using Ⓨ, enabling special actions.
Special Actions
Focus on Midna with ◉ and press Ⓐ to jump great distances in specific locations.
Note: As the game progresses, you can talk to Midna to warp to other locations.
15. Items with Effects
Heart Containers and Pieces of Heart
Obtaining a Heart Container or collecting five Pieces of Heart increases your maximum life gauge by 8.

Recovery Items
The following recovery items may appear when defeating enemies or breaking objects:
- Heart: Slightly restores your life gauge.
- Rupee (Money): You can obtain Rupees. The amount varies by color.

16. Posting
Obtaining Stamps
You can obtain stamps for posting from specific locations or treasure chests.

Posting to Miiverse
From the stamp list on the Collect & Equip screen, select a stamp to use it on your Miiverse message. You can stamp handwritten messages.
Note: You need an internet connection and must have set up Miiverse in advance.
17. What is Amiibo?
This software is compatible with amiibo. Use amiibo™ by touching the NFC area mark ? on the Wii U GamePad.
Amiibo are not just for looking at; they utilize NFC (Near Field Communication) to interact with amiibo-compatible software, allowing for linked play.

Note: Only one amiibo can store game data at a time. If you want to write game data to an amiibo that already contains data from another software, you must first delete the game data from the "Amiibo Settings" ⚙️ in the Wii U Menu "System Settings".
Note: Multiple compatible software titles can read amiibo.
Note: If your amiibo data is corrupted and cannot be restored, initialize it via "Amiibo Settings" ⚙️ in the Wii U Menu "System Settings".
18. What You Can Do with Amiibo
Touching the Wolf Link amiibo allows you to do the following:
Note: Writing and reading amiibo data becomes available as you progress through the game.
Quick Start
You can register your current journey record to the Wolf Link amiibo. Afterward, simply touch the amiibo on the title screen to recall your journey record.
Trial of the Beast
By reading the amiibo with Collect & Equip, you can challenge the "Trial of the Beast".
What is the Trial of the Beast?
In the Trial of the Beast, you can advance by defeating all enemies on each floor. Reaching the deepest part will reward you with special prizes.
