Precautions for Use

Current Time Mode with Radio Control

This mode is used for receiving the time signal and adjusting the watch accordingly. The signal includes information about Daylight Saving Time (DST) and Standard Time.

Your watch can receive time signals from Rugby (England) and Mainflingen (Germany).

Setting Current Time

Your watch automatically adjusts itself via the radio time signal. If you are outside the signal reception area, you can set the time manually.

How to Set Your Watch for Your City

  1. In the Current Time Mode, press and hold [Button A] until the city code on the lower display flashes, indicating entry into the setting mode.
  2. Use [Button D] (East) and [Button B] (West) to select the city whose time you will use as your Local Time.
  3. Cities in Western Europe include codes corresponding to: BER and PAR: Berlin, Paris, Milan, Rome, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Vienna, Barcelona, Madrid. LON: London.
  4. Press [Button A] to exit the setting mode.

Your watch will usually show the correct time after you select your city code. If not, the time will be adjusted automatically after the next signal reception (at midnight). You can also perform a forced signal reception or set the time manually.

If your area does not observe Daylight Saving Time, turn it off.

How to View Digital Time and Last Signal Screen

In the Current Time Mode, you can cycle through the digital time displays using [Button B] as shown in the figure.

[Diagram description: Shows digital time display with seconds, day of week, month/date, and AM/PM indicator.]

Radio Time Signal Reception

There are two methods of signal reception: automatic and forced.

Attention:

Before receiving the signal, remove the watch and place it near a window, away from metal objects, as shown in the figure. The 12 o'clock position of the watch should face the window. There should be no metal objects nearby.

[Diagram description: Shows a watch placed near a window, with arrows indicating optimal placement and distance from metal objects.]

Normal signal reception may be difficult or impossible under the following conditions:

About Automatic Signal Reception

When automatic time signal reception is enabled, the watch automatically starts receiving the signal at 0:00, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 AM, and 4:00 AM daily. If none of these operations are successful, the reception operation will repeat at 5:00 AM.

[Diagram description: Shows the watch display with signal reception indicators, last signal date/time, and DST indicator.]

Forced Signal Reception

The signal reception operation is performed only in the Current Time or World Time modes, at the times specified above. Reception will not occur during an alarm sound or if the watch is in a setting mode (flashing display).

Automatic radio signal calibration occurs early in the morning while you are asleep. Before going to bed at night, remove the watch from your wrist and place it on a level surface in an area with the best possible signal reception.

When automatic signal reception is enabled, it takes 2 to 7 minutes each day. Do not operate the watch buttons within 5 minutes before or after signal reception, otherwise the time may be adjusted incorrectly.

Remember that signal reception depends on the time displayed on the watch's digital display. The reception operation will be performed each time the digital display shows 0:00 a.m., 1:00 a.m., 2:00 a.m., 3:00 a.m., and 4:00 a.m., regardless of whether the displayed time is accurate.

If the signal is successfully received two or three times, the watch uses the data from the last reception for calibration. If only one signal is successfully received, the watch uses the data from that reception.

About the Signal Reception Indicator

The signal reception indicator shows the quality of reception. The appearance of the indicator varies by watch model. For optimal reception, place the watch in an area of maximum signal strength.

[Diagram description: Shows signal reception indicator with levels: Level 0 (Weak Signal) and Level 3 (Strong Signal).]

Even in the optimal reception area, it takes approximately 10 seconds for the indicator to show a strong signal.

Use the indicator to check signal strength and find the best watch position during the reception operation.

The Level 3 signal reception indicator remains on the display in all modes after calibration signal reception and adjustment of the set time. Level 3 indicates that at least one signal was successfully received. However, note that the indicator is cleared from the screen every day at 3:00 AM.

Forced Signal Calibration Reception

  1. Place the watch on a level surface with the 12 o'clock side facing the signal transmitter.
  2. In the Current Time Mode, press and hold [Button D] for 2 seconds until the signal reception indicator flashes. The "RC!" indicator will appear.

The signal reception operation takes from 2 to 7 minutes, sometimes up to 14 minutes. Do not move the watch or press any buttons during this time.

After signal reception is complete, the last signal screen will be displayed.

Attention:

Setting Automatic Signal Reception

You can set the watch to receive signals from a specific transmitter or to automatically receive signals from the transmitter with the strongest signal. You can also disable automatic reception if desired.

How to Set Signal Reception

[Diagram description: Shows the watch display with indicators for AUTO, DCF, MSF, OFF.]

AUTO: Automatic signal reception. The watch automatically selects the transmitter with the strongest signal.

DCF: Automatic reception of the signal from Mainflingen.

MSF: Automatic reception of the signal from Rugby.

OFF: Automatic signal reception is turned off.

Note: If the automatic reception indicator does not appear after pressing [Button A] for a long time, it means the currently selected city code is not within the signal reception area. In this case, you cannot set automatic signal reception.

Note: Performing a forced signal reception also relies on the selected setting (AUTO, DCF, MSF).

World Time Mode

The World Time Mode allows you to view the current time in any of the 30 cities (29 time zones) worldwide.

Pressing [Button A] in the World Time Mode for 1 second displays the city code on the lower display.

If the time displayed for a selected city is incorrect, check your city settings and make necessary adjustments.

The watch performs signal reception even in World Time Mode. In this case, the displayed times will be adjusted according to your city's time.

Viewing Other Cities' Time

In the World Time Mode, press [Button D] to cycle through city codes to the East, and [Button B] to cycle to the West.

Full information on city codes is provided in the table at the end of this manual.

Switching Between Standard and Daylight Saving Time

  1. In the World Time Mode, display the city code for which you want to set Standard or Daylight Saving Time using [Button B] and [Button D].
  2. Press and hold [Button A] to switch the watch between Daylight Saving Time (DST indicator on screen) and Standard Time (no indicator).

Setting Daylight or Standard Time affects only the city whose code is currently displayed. It does not affect other cities.

Remember that you cannot use the World Time Mode to change the Daylight Saving Time setting for your city selected in the Current Time Mode.

Also, you cannot switch between Daylight and Standard Time if GMT is selected as the city code.

The Daylight Saving Time indicator (DST) appears whenever Daylight Saving Time is enabled for the city displayed on the lower display.

The current time for all cities in this mode is calculated based on the difference from Greenwich Mean Time, according to the Local Time.

Alarm Mode

This mode provides 5 alarms. When an alarm is enabled, it sounds at the set time. You can also enable an Hourly Chime, which sounds twice at the start of each hour.

The alarm number is displayed on the alarm screen. The middle left display shows the indicator :00.

[Diagram description: Shows button presses for starting, splitting, stopping, and canceling splits, and recording 1st and 2nd place times.]

Auto-Illumination

This watch uses an LED backlight for the digital displays, allowing you to read the display even in complete darkness. This function turns on the backlight when you turn the watch towards you.

For auto-illumination to work, you must enable the function (the indicator shows auto-illumination is on).

Forced Backlight Activation

Pressing [Button L] in any mode turns on the backlight.

You can set the backlight duration to 1.5 seconds or 2.5 seconds.

This operation illuminates the screen regardless of whether the auto-illumination function is enabled.

About Auto-Illumination

When the auto-illumination function is enabled, the watch automatically illuminates each time your hand is in the position shown in the figure below. Note that illumination only occurs when there is a certain degree of ambient light. Illumination will not occur in bright light.

[Diagram description: Shows a hand holding the watch, tilting it at approximately 40 degrees towards the face, with an arrow indicating the action and the watch tilted.]

Hold your hand parallel to the ground, and turn the watch towards you at approximately a 40-degree angle to activate the backlight.

Warning!

Turning Auto-Illumination On and Off

In the Current Time Mode, press and hold [Button L] for two seconds to turn auto-illumination on (auto-illumination indicator on screen) or off (no indicator).

The auto-illumination indicator appears on the display in all modes.

Auto-illumination automatically turns off when the battery level drops to Level 4. After the charge level recovers to Level 2, you can repeat the auto-illumination activation procedure.

Battery

This watch is equipped with a solar power system and a rechargeable battery that is charged by electricity converted from solar energy.

Important!

Battery Power Indicator

The battery power indicator on the screen shows the current charge status of the rechargeable battery.

LevelIndicatorFunction Status
1(No indicator)All functions available
2(No indicator)All functions available
3CHARGE-L (flashing)Unavailable functions: Automatic time signal reception, audible alarms, backlight, digital displays. Although the hands do not move, the internal timekeeping continues.
4(No indicator)No functions operate, including timekeeping.

A flashing CHARGE-L indicator at Level 3 informs you that the battery is low and you should place the watch in light as soon as possible.

At Level 4, all functions stop working. They will become available again if the rechargeable battery is charged, but the data previously stored in memory will be lost. Therefore, after the battery is charged and the watch moves from Level 4 to Level 2, you must set the current time and date. Although the current time may appear on the screen after moving to Level 3, you cannot adjust it until the watch reaches Level 2.

Battery Power Indicator

If the watch is exposed to direct sunlight or another very strong light source, the battery power indicator may momentarily show a higher level than the actual charge. The correct indicator should appear after a few minutes.

Frequent use of the backlight and audible alarms places a heavy load on the battery, which may cause the RECOVER indicator to appear on the screen, indicating that backlight, audible alarms, digital/analog time synchronization, and signal reception functions are temporarily unavailable. Normal operation is usually restored after the battery charge recovers and the message disappears from the screen.

Precautions for Battery Charging

Avoid overheating the watch while charging the battery. The following are places where it is not advisable to charge your rechargeable battery:

Timekeeping Mode

This mode is used for setting and viewing the time and date. It also explains how to set the time and date manually.

When setting the time, you can also set the backlight duration, select the 12/24-hour format, and enable/disable the power saving mode.

[Diagram description: Shows the watch display in Timekeeping Mode with indicators for mode, day of week, month/date, seconds, and AM/PM.]

Automatic Daylight/Standard Time switching can only be selected if BER, PAR, LON, or ATH are set as your city code.

Automatic Switching Between Daylight and Standard Time

The time signals transmitted from Mainflingen and Rugby include Daylight and Standard Time information. If you enable automatic switching, the watch will automatically switch between Daylight and Standard Time according to the received signal.

When switching to Daylight Saving Time, the time is advanced by one hour to make better use of daylight. Note that not all countries and regions observe this adjustment.

If you plan to use the watch in a region where the Daylight Saving Time period coincides with that in Germany, and your city code is set to BER, PAR, LON, or ATH, set it to AUTO DST. This automatically switches the watch between Daylight and Standard Time.

This setting is the default each time you select BER, PAR, LON, or ATH as your Local Time.

If you encounter signal reception problems, you may consider disabling automatic switching.

How to Set Automatic Daylight Saving Time

  1. In the Current Time Mode, press and hold [Button A]. The city code on the lower display will flash, indicating entry into the setting mode.
  2. Press [Button C] once to advance to the Daylight Saving Time switching setting screen.

Power Saving Function

If this function is enabled, the watch automatically enters a sleep state whenever it is left in an unlit area for a certain period. The table below shows the watch's operation based on the time spent in darkness.

Time in DarknessWatch Operation
60 – 70 minutesNo digital display. Audible alarms, analog time, and automatic signal reception operate.
6 - 7 daysNo digital display, audible alarms unavailable. Hands are at the 12 o'clock position. Automatic signal reception is off.

If the watch is covered by clothing, it may enter the sleep state.

The watch will not enter the Power Saving Mode between 6:00 AM and 10:59 PM. If the watch was already in this mode by this time, it will remain in it.

How to Wake the Watch from Sleep

You can perform any of the following operations:

How to Enable the Power Saving Function

  1. In the Current Time Mode, press and hold [Button A]. The city code on the lower display will flash, indicating entry into the setting mode.
  2. Press [Button C] 9 times until the Power Saving Mode setting screen appears.

When the Power Saving Mode is active, the P.SAVE indicator will be displayed on the upper display.

  1. Press [Button A] to exit the setting mode.

Auto-Return Function

If you do not press any buttons for two or three minutes while a cursor or digit is flashing in a setting mode, the flashing will stop, the watch will automatically memorize all entered values, and exit the setting mode.

If you do not perform any operations for two or three minutes in the Alarm or Hand Setting modes, the watch will automatically return to the Current Time Mode.

Radio Signal Reception Instructions

Strong electromagnetic fields can interfere with correct time setting. Even if you are within the transmitter's range, the signal may be blocked by mountains or other geological obstacles between the watch and the signal source.

Signal reception quality depends on weather, atmospheric conditions, and seasonal changes. The time signal travels through the ionosphere. Therefore, due to factors such as changes in the ionosphere's reflective capacity and its upward movement related to seasonal atmospheric changes or time of day, the signal reception range may change, or reception may not be possible for a period.

Setting the time according to the received signal takes priority over any other settings.

Automatic date and day of week updates upon calibration signal reception will occur from January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2099. Starting January 1, 2100, date setting will no longer be performed.

Signals received by the watch for leap years differ from normal years.

Although the watch should receive time (hours, minutes, seconds) and date (year, month, day) information, under certain conditions, only the time signal may be received.

When all five signals are successfully received, the watch uses the data from the last signal for adjustment. If only one signal is successfully received, the data from that signal is used for adjustment.

The watch normally receives time and date signals, and this information is shown on the Last Signal screen. If only the time signal is received, the current date will be displayed on the Last Signal screen.

If you are in an area where the signal is not received, the watch continues to display the time with the accuracy specified in the technical specifications.

If you encounter problems with signal reception, or if the display is incorrect after signal reception, check the city code, Daylight Saving Time, or automatic reception settings. The factory default settings are as follows:

ParameterFactory Setting
Reception ModeAUTO
City CodeLON (London) for modules 3361, 3726 and BER (Berlin) for modules 3360, 3725
Daylight / Standard TimeAUTO (Automatic switching)

Transmitters

Your watch is designed to receive time signals transmitted from Rugby, England, and Mainflingen, Germany. You can select one of these transmitters or set the watch to automatically select the transmitter with the strongest signal.

The following describes how the watch determines which transmitter to check first when set to automatic transmitter search:

Module 3361, 3726

SituationWhat the Watch Does
First automatic signal search operation after factory setting or city code change.1. Checks the signal from Rugby first. 2. If the Rugby signal is not received, checks the signal from Mainflingen.
Any other situation1. Checks the last successfully received signal first. 2. If the last successfully received signal is not detected, checks other signals.

Module 3360, 3725

SituationWhat the Watch Does
First automatic signal search operation after factory setting or city code change.1. Checks the signal from Mainflingen first. 2. If the Mainflingen signal is not received, checks the signal from Rugby.
Any other situation1. Checks the last successfully received signal first. 2. If the last successfully received signal is not detected, checks other signals.

Since the AUTO setting checks signals from both transmitters, signal reception may take up to 14 minutes.

Timekeeping Mode

Resetting the seconds to 00 will add 1 to the minute count if the seconds were between 30 and 59 at the moment [Button D] was pressed. If the seconds were between 00 and 29, the minutes will not change.

The day of the week is set automatically according to the date.

The year can be set from 2000 to 2099.

The watch includes an automatic perpetual calendar with correct day counts for months and leap year adjustments. Once you set the date and time, you may not need to adjust them again, except in cases where battery power drops to Level 4.

The current time for all cities is calculated based on the difference from Greenwich Mean Time for each city, using the Local Time set in the Current Time Mode.

The watch calculates the difference from Greenwich Mean Time based on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) data.

12-/24-Hour Time Format

The 12- or 24-hour timekeeping system selected in the Current Time Mode applies to all other modes as well.

Backlight Operation

The backlight is difficult to see when direct sunlight falls on the watch.

The backlight automatically turns off during alarm sounds.

Frequent use of the backlight reduces battery life.
