Raychem XPI-S Polymer Insulated Resistance Heating Cable
Product Overview
The Raychem XPI-S is a polymer insulated (PI) series resistance heating cable designed for use in hazardous areas. It is suitable for freeze protection and temperature maintenance applications on pipes, tanks, and other equipment. The XPI-S is a reinforced version of the XPI cable, offering enhanced suitability for environments with high demands on mechanical resistance. It provides an economical solution for various heat-tracing applications, particularly for pipe lengths exceeding the maximum circuit lengths of parallel heating cables (e.g., 250 m).
- High temperature resistance heating conductor
- Inner jacket: High temperature fluoropolymer sandwich
- Protective braid: Nickel-plated copper strands (max. 18 Ω/km)
- Outer jacket: PTFE
The inner insulation features a sandwich construction of high-temperature fluoropolymer and PTFE, while the outer insulation is made of PTFE. This unique construction ensures easy termination, high flexibility, and makes the XPI cable a safe and reliable product. It offers superior chemical resistance and excellent mechanical strength, especially at elevated temperatures.
XPI-S heating cables can operate at temperatures up to 260°C (continuous) and 300°C (intermittent short-term exposure). The cables are easy to install and feature printed meter-marks. Raychem offers XPI-S heating cables in a wide range of resistances, from 0.8 Ω/km to 8000 Ω/km, along with a comprehensive range of components for connection and splicing.

Notes: Delivery length depends on resistance type and is limited by max. weight (120 kg/spool or 1000 m/run). For practical and safe on-site handling, spool lengths of 25-30 kg are recommended. Not all resistances are standard items and may not be in stock; contact Chemelex for lead times.
Safety Requirement: Chemelex requires the use of a 30 mA residual current device for maximum safety and fire protection. For designs with higher leakage current, the preferred trip level for adjustable devices is 30 mA above inherent capacitive leakage, or the next common available trip level for non-adjustable devices (max 300 mA). All safety aspects must be proven.
