Opie Crib Assembly Instructions and Safety Guide
Important Safety Warnings
- ▲ Failure to follow these warnings and assembly instructions could result in serious injury or death.
- Read all instructions before assembling the crib. Keep instructions for future use.
- Do not use this crib if you cannot exactly follow the instructions provided.
Toddler Bed Use & Suffocation Hazards
- For toddler bed use, the minimum age is 15 months, and the maximum weight is 50 lb (22.7 kg).
- Infants can suffocate on soft bedding. Never add a pillow or comforter. Never place additional padding or mattress under an infant.
- To reduce the risk of SIDS, pediatricians recommend healthy infants sleep on their backs, unless advised otherwise by a physician.
Strangulation Hazard
- Strings can cause strangulation. Do not place items with strings, cords, or ribbons around a child's neck (e.g., hood strings, pacifier cords).
- Do not suspend strings over the crib or toddler bed, or attach strings to toys.
- To help prevent strangulation, tighten all fasteners. Loose fasteners can trap a child's body parts or clothing.
- Do not place the crib or toddler bed near windows or patio doors where blind or drape cords could strangle a child.
Fall Hazard
- When a child can pull to a standing position, set the mattress to the lowest position and remove bumper pads, large toys, and other objects that could serve as steps for climbing out.
- When a child can climb out or reaches 35 inches (89 cm) in height, the crib should no longer be used, and the child should move to a youth or regular bed.
Mattress Fit Caution
- Any mattress used in this crib must be at least 27 1/4 by 51 5/8 inches (69 cm by 131 cm).
- The mattress thickness should not exceed 6 inches (15 cm).
- When pushed firmly against any side of the crib, the mattress must not leave a gap of more than 1 inch (3 cm) between the mattress edge and any part of the crib side.
General Checks and Care
- Before and after assembly, and frequently during use, check the product for damaged hardware, loose joints, loose bolts or fasteners, missing parts, or sharp edges.
- Securely tighten loose bolts and fasteners. Do not use the crib if any parts are missing, damaged, or broken.
- Contact Crate & Barrel for replacement parts and instructional literature if needed. Do not substitute parts.
- If refinishing, use a non-toxic finish specified for children's products.
- Never use plastic shipping bags or plastic film as mattress covers, as they can cause suffocation.
- Infants can suffocate in gaps between crib sides and a mattress that is too small.
- To clean the crib: Wipe with a clean soft cloth dampened with a mild cleanser and water. Rinse with clean water using a soft cloth, and dry thoroughly.
- Follow warnings on all products used in the crib.
- When using a vaporizer, always aim vapor steam away from the crib and other wood furniture.

Assembly Instructions
Step 1
Insert four (4) wood dowels into the corresponding holes of the end panels. The diagram shows a close-up of a dowel being inserted into a hole on the edge of an end panel.
Step 2
With the assistance of another adult, align the holes of the side panels with the corresponding holes of an end panel. Insert wood dowels from the end panel into the corresponding holes of the side panels. The diagram illustrates aligning two side panels with one end panel.
Step 3
Using an Allen wrench, secure the side panels to the end panel with four (4) medium bolts. Then, using the Allen wrench, secure the bottom of the side panels to the end panel using two (2) large bolts and two (2) half-moon washers. The diagram shows close-ups of bolts and washers being used to connect the panels.
Step 4
With the assistance of another adult, align the holes of the side panels to the corresponding holes of an end panel. Insert wood dowels of the end panel into the corresponding holes of the side panels. This step visually resembles Step 2, ensuring proper alignment and dowel insertion.
Step 5
Using an Allen wrench, secure the side panels to the end panel with four (4) medium bolts. Then, using the Allen wrench, secure the bottom of the side panels to the end panel using two (2) large bolts and two (2) half-moon washers. This step visually resembles Step 3, completing the main frame assembly.
Step 6
Determine the desired height (high, middle, or low) for the mattress support panel. The diagram shows the mattress support panel being placed inside the crib frame, with labels indicating the different height positions.
Step 7
Attach the mattress support panel to the end panels using four (4) small bolts and an Allen wrench. Assembly is now complete. The diagram shows the final attachment of the mattress support panel.
Cleaning and Care
Maintenance
Upon completion of assembly, ensure all screws, bolts, and fastening devices are securely tightened. Periodically re-check and tighten all fasteners. Before each use or assembly, inspect the crib for damaged hardware, loose joints, missing parts, or sharp edges. Do not use the crib if any parts are missing or broken. Do not substitute parts or make any alterations to the crib.
Cleaning
Clean surfaces with a soft, dry or damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, steel wool, or coarse rags. For cleaning, mix a mild solution of gentle dishwashing liquid and water. Apply to the crib surface with a soft, clean cloth lightly dampened with the solution. Rinse with clean water using a soft, clean cloth, and then dry all surfaces thoroughly with a soft, dry cloth.
Storage
An envelope is attached to the crib for storing assembly directions for future reference. After assembly, read all warnings, cautions, and maintenance notices. Avoid placing excess hardware in the storage envelope, as it could pose a danger to a child or puncture the mattress. For long-term storage, keep the crib in a cool, dry place away from moisture and extreme temperature changes.
