Product Introduction
The Tenda N300 Wi-Fi Range Extender supports both wireless and wired extension modes. Choose the extension type as required and follow the instructions for configuration.
Wireless Extension
Extension Type: Wireless Extension
Description: The extender connects to the upstream router through Wi-Fi and extends the router's Wi-Fi coverage range.
Scenario: Rooms requiring Wi-Fi coverage without Ethernet cables deployed.
Features: After successful wireless extension, Wi-Fi dead zones will be covered. The Ethernet port can be used to provide wired network access for devices like set-top boxes, computers, and TVs.
Diagram Description: A visual representation shows a router connected wirelessly to a range extender, which then broadcasts Wi-Fi to cover a larger area. An Ethernet port on the extender is also shown, indicating it can provide wired connections.
AP Mode
Extension Type: AP Mode
Description: The extender connects to the upstream router through an Ethernet cable and converts the router's wired network to Wi-Fi.
Scenario: Rooms requiring Wi-Fi coverage with Ethernet cables deployed.
Features: After successful wired extension (AP Mode), high-speed and stable Wi-Fi access is provided for wireless devices such as smartphones, tablets, and smart devices.
Diagram Description: A visual representation shows a router connected via an Ethernet cable to a range extender. The extender then broadcasts Wi-Fi.
II Wireless Extension
1. Select the Extender Location
Place the extender midway between the router and the Wi-Fi dead zone to ensure stable signal reception and effective area coverage.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows a router on one side, a Wi-Fi dead zone on the other, and the extender positioned in the middle. Text indicates "Recommended Installation: Place the extender midway between the router and the Wi-Fi dead zone." An icon shows "Good signal, high speed" near the extender.
2. Set Up the Extender
Method 1: Via Smartphone Web Browser (Recommended)
- Connect your smartphone to the Wi-Fi network of the extender, typically named "Tenda_EXT". When the extender's web UI automatically displays, tap "Start Now".
- Select the Wi-Fi network you wish to extend (your router's Wi-Fi).
- Enter the Wi-Fi password for your router's network and tap "Next".
- Configure the extender's Wi-Fi name, Wi-Fi password, and management password as required. If you wish to use the same settings as your upstream Wi-Fi, select the option. Tap "Next" to proceed.
Tips:
- If not automatically redirected to the extender's web UI, open a web browser and enter
re.tenda.cn
in the address bar. - When configuring via a smartphone, disable mobile data to ensure a stable connection.
- If your smartphone displays "The WLAN 'Tenda_EXT' is not connected to the Internet. Select 'Use Without Internet'", choose that option to continue.
- Ignore any "Unsecured Network" prompts.
The extension process is now complete. Follow any remaining on-screen instructions.
Extended Successfully: Once the extension is successful, wait for the Wi-Fi to reboot (approximately 20 seconds). Connect to the new Wi-Fi network and enter the password to access the internet.
Extender Info:
- Wi-Fi Name: Tenda_XXXXXX_EXT (or similar)
- Wi-Fi Password: XXXXXXXX (or your set password)
- Management Address:
re.tenda.cn
- Management Password: XXXXXXXX (or your set password)
- It is recommended to take a screenshot to save this Wi-Fi information.
Method 2: Via WPS Button
Tips:
- Ensure your router's Wi-Fi encryption is WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK.
- The WPS button design may vary by manufacturer. If this method fails, use another configuration method.
- Press the WPS button on your router for 1-3 seconds to enable its WPS function.
- Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on the extender for 1-3 seconds. The extender's indicator will blink green rapidly.
- When the LED indicator turns solid green, the setup is successful. The extender's Wi-Fi name will be "Upstream router Wi-Fi name _EXT," and the Wi-Fi password will be the same as the upstream router's.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows pressing a WPS button on a router, followed by pressing a WPS button on the extender within a 2-minute timeframe.
III AP Mode
Tips:
- If not automatically redirected to the extender's web UI, open a web browser and enter
re.tenda.cn
. - When configuring via a smartphone, disable mobile data.
- If your smartphone displays "The WLAN 'Tenda_EXT' is not connected to the Internet. Select 'Use Without Internet'", choose that option.
- Ignore any "Unsecured Network" prompts.
- If the deployed Ethernet cable is for wiring within a wall, ensure you have the necessary cable prepared.
- Ensure an Ethernet cable is connected to a working internet source in the desired Wi-Fi coverage area. Connect this Ethernet cable to the extender's Ethernet port.
- Plug the extender into a power socket. The indicator will change from blinking green to solid on, indicating successful connection.
- Connect your smartphone to the extender's Wi-Fi network (e.g., "Tenda_EXT"). When the extender's web UI displays, tap "Start Now".
- Configure the extender's Wi-Fi name, Wi-Fi password, and management password as required. Tap "Next".

FAQ
Q1. The internet speed is poor when connected to the extender's Wi-Fi. What should I do?
A1.
- Improper Positioning: If the extender is too far from the dead zone, its coverage will be limited. If it's too far from the router, it won't receive a stable signal.
- Recommendation: Reposition the extender midway between the router and the Wi-Fi dead zone for optimal performance.
Diagram Description: Illustrates three positioning scenarios: "Too far from the dead zone (Not recommended)", "Midway (Recommended)", and "Too far from the router (Not recommended)".
Q2. I cannot log in to the extender's web UI. What should I do?
A2.
First, try these solutions:
- Visit
http://re.tenda.cn
in your browser. - If using a wireless client (like a smartphone), ensure mobile data is disabled.
If the problem persists, try these solutions:
Before extension:
- If using a wireless client, ensure your smartphone is connected to the extender's Wi-Fi network ("Tenda_EXT").
- If using a wired device, ensure your computer is set to obtain an IP address and DNS server address automatically.
- Reset the extender by referring to Q6 and try logging in again.
After extension:
- If using a wireless client, ensure your smartphone is connected to the extender's Wi-Fi. If the extender's Wi-Fi name is the same as the upstream router, stand near the extender and connect. (Avoid placing the extender too close to the router, or temporarily power off the router).
- If using a wired device, ensure your computer is set to obtain an IP address and DNS server address automatically.
Q3. My extender cannot find the Wi-Fi network of my router. What should I do?
A3.
- The extender is 2.4 GHz only. Ensure your router's 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is enabled.
- Ensure your smartphone is near the extender and can search for the router's Wi-Fi.
- Change your router's Wi-Fi channel and try again.
- Change your router's encryption type to WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK and try again.
Q4. I cannot find the extender's Wi-Fi name after successful extension (indicator is solid on). What should I do?
A4. This may happen if you did not customize the extender's Wi-Fi name during setup. In this case, the extender's Wi-Fi name will be the same as the upstream router's, or the upstream router's name with "_EXT" appended.
Q5. After wireless extension, the network speed is slower than when directly connected to the router. What should I do?
A5. Network speed may decrease slightly during wireless extension due to signal attenuation, which is normal and does not affect regular use. To maximize performance, ensure the extender indicator is solid green and minimize obstacles between the extender and the router.
Q6. How to reset the extender?
A6. When the extender has finished starting up, press and hold the RESET button for approximately 8 seconds. The indicator will blink yellow rapidly, indicating the extender has been restored to factory settings.
