I. Product Introduction

The Tenda Wi-Fi Range Extender supports both wireless and wired extension. For homes with deployed Ethernet cables, AP Mode is recommended. Otherwise, choose Wireless Extension. Select your required extension type and refer to the following sections for configuration.

Wireless Extension

Scenario: Rooms requiring Wi-Fi coverage without Ethernet cables.

Features:

Description: The extender connects to the upstream router via Wi-Fi and extends the router's Wi-Fi coverage range.

AP Mode (Wired Extension)

Scenario: Rooms requiring Wi-Fi coverage with Ethernet cables.

Features: After successful wired extension, high-speed and stable Wi-Fi access is provided for wireless devices like smartphones and smart devices.

Description: The extender connects to the upstream router via an Ethernet cable and converts the router's wired network to Wi-Fi.

II. Wireless Extension Setup

Select the Extender Location

Place the extender midway between the router and the wireless dead zone. Position it to minimize obstacles between the extender and the router. Ensure your smartphone is connected to the router's Wi-Fi and has smooth internet access. Plug the extender into a power outlet; the system starts up when the indicator blinks green.

Diagram Description: Shows a Wi-Fi router, the extender placed in the middle, and wireless clients further away.

Set Up the Extender

Method 1: Through Web UI

  1. Connect your smartphone to the extender's Wi-Fi network: Tenda_EXT. When the extender's web UI appears automatically, tap "Start Now".
  2. If the page does not appear, open a web browser and go to re.tenda.cn. If using a smartphone, disable mobile data. If prompted about Wi-Fi availability, continue using it.

  3. Select the Wi-Fi network you want to extend. It is recommended to select the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band.
  4. Diagram Description: Shows a list of Wi-Fi networks, with an option to select 5 GHz.

  5. Enter the Wi-Fi password of the upstream router and tap "Next".
  6. The extender supports dual-band extension. If the upstream router has dual-band Wi-Fi, selecting one band (e.g., 5G) will automatically extend the other band with the same password.

  7. Change the extender's Wi-Fi name and password as required, then tap "Next".
  8. You can choose to add a new Wi-Fi name/password or use the upstream Wi-Fi name/password. The extender's Wi-Fi password can also be set as the management password.

  9. The extension is completed. Wi-Fi restarting may take about 20 seconds. Connect to the new Wi-Fi later.
  10. Diagram Description: Shows "Extended Successfully" with details of the new Wi-Fi names (e.g., Tenda_XXXXXX_EXT, Tenda_XXXXXX_5G_EXT) and password. It also shows indicator lights for 2.4G and 5G bands.

Method 2: Through Tenda WiFi App

  1. Download the Tenda WiFi App by scanning the QR code [QR Code ?] or searching in Google Play/App Store. Ensure the app is the latest version.
  2. Connect your smartphone to the extender's Wi-Fi network: Tenda_EXT.
  3. If prompted about Wi-Fi availability, continue using it.

  4. The app will automatically discover the extender. Follow the on-screen instructions to set it up. The extension is successful when the extender's indicator turns solid on.
  5. Diagram Description: Shows a prompt "Signal Extender is found unconfigured. Configure it now?" with "Configure" and "Not Now" options.

Method 3: Through WPS Button

Ensure the router's Wi-Fi encryption is WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK. WPS button design may vary by manufacturer.

  1. Press the router's WPS button for 1-3 seconds to enable its WPS function.
  2. Within 2 minutes, press the extender's WPS button for 1-3 seconds. The extender's indicator will blink green fast.
  3. Diagram Description: Shows pressing the router WPS button, then the extender WPS button within a time limit.

  4. Setup is successful when the indicator lights solid on. The extender's Wi-Fi name will be the upstream router's Wi-Fi name with "_EXT" (or "_5G_EXT"), and the password will be the same as the upstream router.

III. AP Mode Setup

  1. Ensure the Ethernet cable is connected to the extender's Ethernet port and can access the internet normally. Plug the extender into a power socket. The indicator changes from blinking green to solid on, indicating successful extension.
  2. If using a wall-wired Ethernet cable, prepare it yourself.

Diagram Description: Shows an Ethernet cable connected to the extender.

  3. Connect your smartphone to the extender's Wi-Fi network: Tenda_EXT. When the web UI appears, tap "Start Now".
  4. If the web UI doesn't appear automatically, access re.tenda.cn in a browser. Disable mobile data if using a smartphone. If prompted about Wi-Fi availability, continue using it.

  5. Set the extender's Wi-Fi name, Wi-Fi password, and login password as required, then tap "Next".
  6. Diagram Description: Shows options to unify 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz, set extender Wi-Fi names and passwords, and set the management password.

V. Connect Clients to the Internet

Wireless Clients

Connect to the extender's Wi-Fi network. The Wi-Fi name will be the one you set, Tenda_EXT (or 5G_EXT), the upstream router's Wi-Fi name with "_EXT" (or "_5G_EXT"), or the same as the router's name.

Wired Clients

Connect wired devices (e.g., Printer, Smart TV, Camera, Computer) to the extender's Ethernet port. This is applicable only in Wireless Extension mode. In AP Mode, connect directly via Wi-Fi.

Diagram Description: Shows various devices (printer, TV, camera, computer) connected via Ethernet to the extender.

Appearance

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q1. I cannot log in to the web UI of the extender. What should I do?

A1. First, try visiting re.tenda.cn in your browser. If using a wireless client (like a smartphone), ensure mobile data is disabled. If the problem persists:

Q2. My extender cannot find the Wi-Fi network of my router. What should I do?

A2. Ensure your smartphone is near the extender and can search/connect to the router's Wi-Fi. Try changing your router's channel or changing the router's encryption type to WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK.

Q3. I cannot find the Wi-Fi name of the extender after extending the network successfully (indicator is solid on). What should I do?

A3. This might happen if you didn't customize the extender's Wi-Fi name. The name might be the same as the upstream router's, or append "_EXT" (or "_5G_EXT") to the upstream router's Wi-Fi name.

Q4. Network speed through the extender is slower than directly connecting to the router after wireless extension. What should I do?

A4. A decrease in network speed during wireless extension is normal due to signal attenuation. Ensure the extender indicator is solid green and minimize obstacles. If Ethernet cables are available, wired extension is recommended for better performance.

Q5. How to reset the extender?

A5. When the extender has completed startup, press the RESET button for about 8 seconds. The indicator will blink yellow fast, indicating the extender has been restored to factory settings.
