Safety & Warnings

  • Read all instructions carefully before use. Retain the user guide for future reference.
  • If the product or power cord shows damage, cease use immediately and contact Kogan support.
  • Place on a flat, stable surface, away from vibrations. Can be wall-mounted using mounting holes.
  • Do not place on sloping or unstable surfaces to prevent tipping.
  • Ensure the product is near an electrical outlet.
  • Designed for indoor use only.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures.
  • Keep away from heat sources like radiators or fires.
  • Avoid direct sunlight exposure.
  • Do not place lit candles or naked flames near the product.
  • Do not expose to water or humid environments to reduce risk of fire, electric shock, or damage.
  • Do not place objects filled with liquids (e.g., vases) near the product.
  • Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the product.
  • The product contains no user-serviceable parts; do not disassemble or modify.
  • Use only the supplied 5V/2A power adapter. Do not use third-party adapters.

Overview

The frame has several components and ports:

  • 1. Power button: After connecting the power adapter, the device starts up by default. Press and hold for 3 seconds to access reboot or power off menu. Short press turns the screen off/on.
  • 2. Speakers: For audio output.
  • 3. Mounting hole (x2): For wall mounting.
  • 4. Stand insert: For attaching the kickstand.
  • 5. Reset button: Use a needle or paper clip to reset the unit.
  • 6. USB-C port: For copying photos to a USB stick (data transfer only, not charging).
  • 7. MicroSD card slot: Insert a Micro SD (TF) card to import photos.
  • 8. Power input: Connect the power adapter here.
  • 9. Anti-theft hole: Not used for operation.

Assembly

Installing the Kickstand

Lay the frame face down on a flat surface. Align the kickstand with the stand insert on the back of the frame and attach it.

Wall Mounting

The rear of the photo frame has two mounting holes. These can be used to mount the frame to a wall using a screw (not supplied).

Operation

Connecting to Power

  1. Connect the power adapter to the power input on the frame and plug it into an electrical outlet.
  2. Press and hold the power button on the rear of the frame until it turns on.

Initial Setup

When using the digital photo frame for the first time, follow these steps:

  1. Select your desired language.
  2. Connect the frame to your Wi-Fi network.
  3. Set the date and time.
  4. You may be prompted to update the frame's firmware. It is highly recommended to update before proceeding.
  5. Enter your name and the location where the frame is placed (e.g., "John Doe", "Living room", "Kitchen", "Office").

Download the Frameo App

To send photos to your frame, download the Frameo app on your smartphone. Find the app by searching for "Frameo" on the Google Play Store (Android) or the App Store (iOS).

Connecting Your Phone to the Frame

  1. Download and install the Frameo app on your smartphone.
  2. On the digital frame, tap the user icon [?]. A dialog box will appear showing a connection code, valid for 12 hours.
  3. In the Frameo app, tap "Connected frames".
  4. Tap the "+" [➕] icon in the upper right corner.
  5. Enter the code shown on the digital frame and tap "Okay".
  6. The digital frame and the Frameo app will begin pairing.
  7. Once paired, you can send photos to your frame using the Frameo app.

Sending Photos to the Frame

  1. In the Frameo app, open the gallery by tapping the gallery icon [::: ].
  2. Tap the camera icon [?] to take a new photo or select a photo from your phone's memory and tap "Next".
  3. Note: You may need to adjust your phone's settings to allow photo sharing access to the Frameo app.
  4. To select multiple photos, tap the multi-select icon [ ] then select the photos you wish to send.
  5. Select the frame(s) you wish to send the photo to and tap "Next".
  6. Write a caption for your photo (optional) and tap "Next".
  7. Select the most important part of the photo and tap "Send photo".
  8. You will receive a notification on your frame when a new photo has been received. Tap the notification to view it.

Navigating Photos

  • Swipe left or right to go through your photos.
  • Photos will cycle through as a slideshow without user input.
  • Tap the screen once to access the menu.

Menu Options:

  • 1. Add friend [?➕]: Generates a code to share with friends and family so they can connect and share photos.
  • 2. Settings [⚙️]: Opens the Settings menu.
  • 3. Power [?]: Opens the Power menu.
  • 4. Reacts [?]: Opens the React menu.
  • 5. Hide photo [?]: Hides the current photo from the slideshow. Can be un-hidden via settings.
  • 6. Gallery [?️]: Opens the gallery for photo collection navigation.
  • 7. Fill frame/Fit to frame [↔️]: Toggles how photos are displayed. "Fill frame" scales photos to fill the screen, centering on the most important part. "Fit to frame" displays the entire photo, adding bars if needed.
  • 8. Adjust photo [?]: Allows adjusting photo position, rotation, and editing captions. Note: Captions on photos received from others must be edited by the sender using the Frameo app.

Note: The React menu can also be accessed by double-tapping the screen.

Video Playback

When a video is shown, two additional controls are available:

  • Play/Pause [▶️/⏸️]: Starts/stops video playback.
  • Volume control [?]: Opens the volume slider. Pressing the volume icon [?] mutes the video; pressing it again [?] unmutes it.

Power Menu

On the main menu, tap the power icon [?] to access the power menu:

  • Power: Turns the frame off.
  • Restart: Restarts the frame.
  • Sleep: Puts the frame in sleep mode (screen off, but still receives photos). Press the power button on the rear to wake it.

Note: Always use the power button or power menu to turn off the frame. Never disconnect power while the frame is running.

React Menu

Tap one of the four reactions (like [❤️], laugh [?], surprised [?], sad [?]) to send a notification to the sender's phone indicating your feeling about the photo.

Settings

Use the settings menu to personalize your frame:

  1. My frame:
    • Frame name: Changes the name displayed in the Frameo app.
    • Frame location: Sets the location displayed on friends' and family's lists.
    • Set language: Sets the language used on the frame.
    • Date: Sets the date.
    • Time: Sets the time. The frame automatically tries to set the correct date and time when connected to the internet.
    • Time zone: Sets the time zone.
    • Enable/Disable 24-hour format: Toggles 24-hour time format.
  2. Manage photos: View stored photos and storage usage.
    • Show/hide photos: Tap photos to hide them. Hidden photos are not deleted and can be shown again. Tap the eye icon [?️] to hide or show all photos.
    • Delete photos: Select photos to permanently delete. Tap to select/deselect all, then tap the delete icon [?️] to confirm.
    • Import photos: Import photos from a microSD card. Ensure a microSD card with photos is inserted. Select photos, then tap the import button [⬇️]. Tap to select/deselect all photos on the card. Tap to sort photos by ascending/descending order.
    • Export photos: Export photos from the frame to a microSD card. This includes all photos and user profile pictures.
  3. My friends: Lists users who can send photos.
    • Change options for a friend: Open friend options to allow/deny photo sharing. If enabled, the user can retrieve and share the frame code via the Frameo app.
    • You can also delete a user by pressing the "DELETE FRIEND" button. This removes their permission and their photos.
    • Add person [?➕]: Tap to add a new user and share the code with them.
  4. Display:
    • Brightness level: Adjusts screen brightness.
    • Sleep mode: Turns off the screen to save power. By default, it turns off at 23:00 and on at 07:00. This can be customized. Note: The frame remains active and can receive photos during sleep mode.
  5. Slideshow:
    • Timer: Sets the duration each photo is displayed.
    • Show caption: Toggles display of captions sent with photos.
    • Fill frame: Sets photos to fill the screen, centering on the most important part.
    • Fit to frame: Displays the entire photo, adding bars if necessary.
    • Frame background: Select background options for bars when photos don't fill the screen.
    • Photo display order: Sets display order (by date taken, by date received, or shuffle).
    • Reverse photo display order: Reverses the display order.
    • Autoplay: Enables/disables autoplay of videos in the slideshow.
    • Video playback: Determines how videos play (loop, play once, play once and continue).
    • Auto mute: Automatically mutes video volume after a period of inactivity.
    • Video volume: Adjusts video volume.
  6. Wi-Fi [?]: Connects the frame to a Wi-Fi network. If a captive portal is detected, tap the Wi-Fi icon to log in.
    • Wi-Fi details: Displays details about the connected Wi-Fi.
    • Reset Wi-Fi: Deletes all Wi-Fi information and restarts the frame.
  7. Notifications: Configure notification settings.
    • Show notifications (e.g., new photo received).
    • Notification volume.
    • Storage space warnings.
    • Backup failure notifications.
    • Network connection status.
    • New photos received.
    • New friends added.
    • Software update installed.
    • Feature news.
    • Date and time warnings.
  8. Backup and Restore:
    • Backup frame to external storage (microSD card): Creates a backup of photos, users, and settings. The time of the last successful backup is shown.
    • WARNING: Any existing backup on the external storage will be overridden!
    • Automatic backup: Automatically backs up within 30 hours of new photos or changes.
    • Restore from backup: Confirm backup is up-to-date before restoring. If the last backup is too old or none exists, create a new backup first. Note: Ensure both frames are updated to the latest version if keeping old and new frames operational simultaneously. To restore on an already set-up frame, reset it first using the "Reset frame" button. Then, select "Restore from backup" on the setup screen. If the button is not visible, ensure the microSD card is inserted correctly.
    • Reset frame: Removes all data (photos, users, network, settings) permanently.
  9. Help:
    • Open source libraries: Lists open source libraries and licenses.
    • Share anonymous analytics data: Choose whether to share data to improve Frameo software. Keep checked to help improve, unchecked to deny.
    • Guide: Opens the quick start guide.
  10. About:
    • Frameo version: Shows the current software version.
    • Android version: Shows the installed Android version.
    • Peer ID: Unique ID for the photo frame.
    • MAC: Shows the MAC address.
    • Up time: Shows how long the frame has been powered on.
    • Check for update: Checks for available updates.
    • Beta program: Joins the Beta program for earlier updates.

Sharing Photos

Photos/videos can be shared using the Frameo app, a PC, an external USB storage device, or a Micro SD card.

Note: When a USB drive is inserted, the frame recognizes it as an "SD card". If both a Micro SD card and USB drive are inserted, the frame can recognize both.
