York Affinity Series Central Dehumidifiers

Enhancing Indoor Air Quality and Home Comfort

The Challenge of Humidity

"It's not the heat, it's the humidity"—that's what folks say to describe the discomfort of high humidity. Running the air conditioner more frequently doesn't always help lower indoor humidity and can increase electric bills. The smart way to reduce humidity is to use the York® Affinity™ Series Central Dehumidifier for whole-house dehumidification. It removes water vapor from your entire home, leaving you more comfortable while reducing air conditioning costs.

Comfort Without Overcooling

Never again overcool your home to reduce humidity. Using a central dehumidifier integrated with your home comfort system can cut annual cooling costs up to 18%. Dehumidification allows you to raise your thermostat by several degrees, making you feel more comfortable while running your air conditioner less.

Whole Home Dehumidification

Portable dehumidifiers cannot handle the continual infiltration of water vapor throughout your home. A more effective solution is to have a central dehumidifier integrated into your central cooling system to efficiently dehumidify every room.

Protect Your Health Against Mold and Allergens

When indoor relative humidity is above 60%, allergens, dust mites, and molds thrive, triggering asthma, allergies, and respiratory infections. High-capacity central dehumidifiers reduce humidity to lower levels to protect against the spread of mold and other allergens.

Protect Your Home

High humidity affects wood flooring, cabinets, and furniture with warping and structural damage. Bathroom and kitchen fixtures, and basement walls that get wet with condensation are a breeding ground for mold. By removing excessive humidity, a central dehumidifier preserves your furnishings and your peace of mind.

How Whole Home Dehumidifiers Work

A centrally installed dehumidifier works throughout your home to provide dedicated moisture removal more efficiently than your air conditioner. Installed as part of your home's heating and cooling system, an Affinity™ central dehumidifier pulls air from every room through the return ducts. Then it removes moisture and cycles dry air back throughout your home.

Get the protection you need:

  • In spring and fall when humidity can rise but temperatures aren't hot enough to use air conditioning.
  • When excess moisture is more than your air conditioner can handle alone.
  • In higher-efficiency, tighter homes when air conditioning doesn't need to run as long, but trapped moisture continues to build.

System Operation Description:

Air is drawn from the home through return ducts. A blower pushes this air through the system. The air first passes over an Evaporating Coil, where moisture is condensed out. This condensed water flows through a Drain Tube to a Drain Pan, and is then typically drained away automatically. The dehumidified air then passes through a Condensing Coil and a Filter before being returned to the home. A Back Draft Damper may be present to control airflow. The system receives Humid Air IN and outputs Dry Air OUT.

Application Scenarios

Coastal Residences

For owners of coastal homes, apartments, townhomes, and condos, year-round protection from excess humidity is especially important. Homes in these areas are subjected to extreme humidity conditions every day, all year long.

An Affinity™ central dehumidifier can help by:

  • Preventing corrosion, rot, and mold due to high humidity and moisture accumulation.
  • Reducing electricity bills caused by running air conditioning excessively.
  • Eliminating leaks and spillage from messy trays associated with portable dehumidifiers.

Homes with Subterranean Levels

Portable dehumidifiers don't perform well in cool, below-grade environments. For large basements, two or more units are often needed to handle the entire area.

An Affinity™ central dehumidifier can help by:

  • Removing excess humidity in below-grade rooms and basements to prevent musty smells and dampness.
  • Preventing damage to furnishings and stored items.
  • Eliminating noisy units that run constantly (one Affinity™ central dehumidifier can remove up to 135 pints every day).
  • Providing automatic water drainage without involving messy storage buckets and basement drains.

Installation Note: Typical installations show the central dehumidifier unit connected to the HVAC system. In attics, it is often placed alongside the air handler, out of sight. In basements or below-grade areas, it is also typically installed near the air handler, with connections for supply air to the house and return air from the house. The system includes a connection for humid air from the whole home and outputs dry air to the whole home. Installation may vary by model.

Sizing Guidelines for Affinity™ Series Central Dehumidifiers

Map Note: A map illustrates three climate regions (A, B, C) used for sizing guidelines, likely representing different humidity levels or climate zones.

Sizing Guidelines by Home Area (ft²)

Recommended home floor area (ft²) that listed dehumidifier can meet the dehumidification load, assuming 8 ft ceilings.

Region S1-CD065T01 S1-CVD090T01 S1-CVD135T01
1.00 ACH .50 ACH 1.00 ACH .50 ACH 1.00 ACH .50 ACH
