1. Safety Regulations

1.1 Correct Use

The F2 X-TREM helmet, hereinafter referred to as 'the helmet', is suitable for various applications and meets the requirements of the following standards:

⚠ Warning!

The helmet is only safe when correctly assembled and fastened. Detachable parts must not be used separately.

The EC type-approval may not be valid if other personal protective equipment or accessories (excluding those intended by the helmet manufacturer for use with this helmet) are attached to a helmet marked according to this European standard.

This helmet meets the European standard's durability requirements only when the chinstrap supplied by the helmet manufacturer is in use and adjusted according to these instructions.

The helmet absorbs impact energy, but as a result of an impact, the helmet may be partially or completely unusable. Even if such damage is not easily visible, a helmet that has sustained a strong impact should be replaced.

Original parts of the helmet must not be damaged, modified, or removed without MSA's approval. No accessories other than those recommended by MSA should be added to the helmet.

This helmet is not suitable for motorcycle use.

This helmet is not suitable for interior firefighting in burning buildings.

The user manual must be read and followed when using the product. Especially the safety instructions and instructions regarding product use and function must be read carefully and followed. For safe use, national regulations applicable in the user's country must also be considered.

Any use other than or contrary to these instructions is considered non-compliant. This particularly applies to unauthorized modifications and commissioning of the device not performed by MSA or authorized personnel.

Wildland Firefighting

The upper part of the helmet primarily protects against impacts, punctures, heat, open flames, and embers during wildland firefighting and clearing operations (e.g., felling trees).

Rescue Operations

The upper part of the helmet primarily protects against mechanical hazards such as impacts, punctures, heat, electric shock, and chemicals during the following rescue operations:

1.2 Liability Information

MSA assumes no responsibility if the device has been used improperly or not as intended. The selection and use of the device are solely the responsibility of the individual user.

Product liability and MSA's warranty commitments for the device become void if the device has not been used, maintained, or cared for according to the instructions in this manual.

⚠ Danger!

The product's functionality must be checked before use. The product must not be used if it fails the functional test, is damaged, has not been professionally serviced/repaired, or if non-original MSA spare parts have been used.

3. Helmet Adjustment

This helmet provides adequate protection only when it fits snugly on the user's head and is adjusted to the user's head size.

3.1 Quick Adjustment Wheel

The head padding is available in 3 size options: S, M, L.

Head Padding Adjustment:

  1. Adjust to fit the head.
  2. Tighten (A) or loosen (B) the head padding.
  3. Adjust the head padding with the front snap fasteners (2 positions, P1 and P2).
  4. Adjust for height: Pull both hook-and-loop fasteners of the quick adjustment wheel's protective net through the rear adjustment part and adjust as shown in the diagram (imagine pulling straps through a buckle to adjust length).

3.2 Chinstrap

The chinstrap is available in two versions: EN16471/16473 and EN12492.

For EN16471/16473 Chinstrap:

To adjust, simultaneously adjust the left and right front straps (1) and the left and right rear straps (2).

For EN12492 Chinstrap:

Adjust by pulling the straps through the buckles to achieve a snug fit.

4. Parts Replacement

Chinstrap

To remove the chinstrap, detach the buckle from the rear (c). For EN16471/EN16473, detach the front attachment points (a) and (b). For EN12492, detach the upper strap.

Head Padding with Quick Adjustment Wheel

Carefully remove the head padding's quick adjustment wheel by detaching the snap fasteners at the top and back.

Helmet Interior

To remove, detach the straps from their attachment points. To attach, fasten the helmet interior into four openings: the shortest straps into the front openings. Thread the strap behind the holder.

5. Goggles

5.1 Use

Goggles protect eyes from dust and splashes. Put on the goggles with both hands. Store goggles inside the helmet, not on top of it.

5.2 Attaching Goggles

For RESPONDER goggles (GA3027B): The elastic strap of the goggles has an adjustment buckle. Adjust the goggles to fit snugly but without pressing on your face.

6. When Using a Full Face Mask

The helmet has two openings (a) for attaching full face mask fasteners.

7. When Using Accessories

The helmet has two openings (b) for attaching MSA standard visors and hearing protectors.

8. Maintenance and Cleaning

For cleaning, maintenance, and disinfection of the helmet, only use substances that do not damage the helmet or harm the user, and are used according to the manufacturer's instructions.

The helmet's lifespan is affected by its manufacturing material(s) and the conditions of use and storage. Always follow the helmet manufacturer's recommendations.

⚠ Warning!

Do not glue stickers to the helmet or visors, and do not allow paint, hydrocarbon-based cleaning agents, or solvents to come into contact with them, to prevent damage to the helmet materials.

ℹ Information

Do not drop the helmet. Protect the helmet from impacts that could damage the shields (cracks/scratches).

Parts that come into contact with the skin should be regularly checked for cracks and wear that cause discomfort. Replace parts regularly to ensure comfortable use of the helmet.

To maximize the helmet's lifespan:

Checks After Each Use

Check every part of the helmet, especially all attachment points, after each use:

Ensure the helmet size is always correct.

⚠ Warning!

Replace damaged parts only with original MSA parts. Original parts are authorized, and using only them ensures that your helmet's protective performance meets requirements.

The helmet absorbs impact energy, but as a result of an impact, the helmet may be partially or completely unusable. Even if such damage is not easily visible, a helmet that has sustained a strong impact should be replaced.

8.1 Cleaning and Disinfection

Plastic Parts and Inner Padding

Use soapy water and a soft cloth. (Do not use detergents, solvent-based products, or abrasive materials).

Neck Protector Cleaning

Wool, Nomex Neck Protectors:

Clean at 30 °C with a gentle detergent. Ⓟ
