Safety Regulations

Correct Use

The F2 X-TREM helmet is a multi-purpose helmet suitable for various applications according to the following standards:

WARNING
The safety provided by the helmet is ensured only when it is properly assembled and correctly fitted. Removable parts must not be worn separately. The validity of the EC type-examination certificate may be voided if the helmet is fitted with personal protective equipment or accessories not supplied by the helmet manufacturer. This helmet conforms to retention requirements when the chin strap is worn and adjusted as per instructions. The helmet absorbs impact energy by partial destruction or damage; even if not apparent, any helmet subjected to a severe impact must be replaced. Do not damage, modify, or remove original components unless recommended by MSA. Helmets should not be adapted for fitting attachments in unapproved ways. This helmet is not suitable as a motorcycle helmet and is not intended for protection during structural fire fighting or fire entrapment.

It is imperative to read and observe this operating manual, especially the safety instructions and information for use and operation. National regulations applicable in the user's country must also be considered for safe use. Any alternative use or use outside this specification is considered non-compliance, particularly unauthorized alterations or commissioning work not performed by MSA or authorized personnel.

Wildland Fire Fighting

Protection of the upper head primarily against impact, penetration, heat, flame, and burning embers during fire fighting and associated activities (e.g., wood cutting) in wildland environments.

Liability Information

MSA accepts no liability for inappropriate or unintended product use. The selection and use of the product are the sole responsibility of the individual operator. Product liability claims, warranties, and guarantees by MSA are voided if the product is not used, serviced, or maintained according to this manual.

Before use, verify product operability. Do not use the product if the function test is unsuccessful, it is damaged, competent servicing/maintenance has not been performed, or genuine MSA spare parts have not been used.

Adjusting the Helmet

For adequate protection, this helmet must fit or be adjusted to the user's head size.

Ratchet Adjustment

The headband covers three sizes: S, M, L. To adjust the headband size:

  1. Set to matching head size.
  2. Tighten (A) or loosen (B) the headband for further adjustment. (Diagram shows a headband with adjustment points labeled A and B, indicating tightening and loosening mechanisms.)

  4. Adapt the helmet wearing height: Guide the two velcro fasteners of the ratchet net through the openings in the rear interface and adjust as shown. (Diagram shows the rear of the helmet with velcro fasteners being guided through openings in the rear interface.)

Chin Strap Adjustment

There are two types of chin straps: EN16471/16473 and EN12492.

Replacing Spare Parts

Chin Strap Replacement

To replace the chin strap:

  1. Remove the rear clamp (c). (Diagram shows the chin strap with a clamp labeled 'c' at the back.)
  2. Remove the front points (a) and (b). (Diagram shows the chin strap with front attachment points labeled 'a' and 'b'.)
  3. For Chin Strap EN12492: Release the top strap. (Diagram shows the EN12492 chin strap with its top strap being released.)

Ratchet Headband Replacement

Carefully remove the ratchet headband by undoing the front and rear snaps from their slots. (Diagrams show the process of detaching the ratchet headband from the helmet shell.)

Suspension System Replacement

To replace the suspension system:

  1. Remove the straps by releasing them from their fastening points. (Diagram shows the suspension system with straps being detached.)
  2. Fit the suspension system into the four slots; the shortest straps go into the slots in the front. (Diagram shows the suspension system being inserted into the helmet shell's slots.)
  3. During re-assembly, fit the strap behind the bracket. (Diagram shows a strap being fitted behind a bracket during re-assembly.)

Goggles

Goggles Use

Safety goggles are used to protect the eyes against dust and projections.

After use, store goggles inside the helmet, not on top of it.

Attaching the Goggles

Protection Goggles, Model RESPONDER (GA3027B)
The elastic strap includes an adjustable buckle to adjust the pressure of the goggles on the wearer's face, optimizing comfort and protection. (Diagrams illustrate how to attach and adjust the RESPONDER goggles to the helmet, showing the elastic strap and buckle mechanism.)

Use with Full Face Masks

The helmet has two holes (a) to accommodate the brackets of full face masks. (Diagram shows the side of the helmet with a hole labeled 'a' for attaching full face mask brackets.)

Use with Accessories

Maintenance and Cleaning

For cleaning, maintenance, or disinfection, use only substances that have no adverse effect on the helmet or wearer, applied according to manufacturer's instructions. The usable life of the helmet is affected by material type and environmental conditions. Consult the manufacturer for recommendations.

WARNING
Do not apply paint, stickers, hydrocarbon-based cleaning products, or solvents to the helmet or visors to prevent material damage.
Do not drop the helmet. Prevent impacts that could damage the shields (cracks/scratches).
Parts in contact with skin must be regularly inspected for cracks or wear that could cause discomfort. Regular replacement of these parts maintains user comfort.

Store the goggles inside the helmet (out of use position). The helmet can be stored in an MSA protective bag (GA1043).

Discard
