Introduction

Emerson's DeltaV™ v11 introduced Electronic Marshalling, providing enhanced control system I/O performance, flexibility, and ease of use. It offers single-channel granularity, fully redundant communications, and plug-and-play I/O. Electronic Marshalling with Distributed CHARMs allows CHARMs to be installed closer to field devices, reducing engineering and installation efforts. Direct wiring from field devices to CHARMs in a junction box eliminates the need for loop sheets. Instrument loop checks are simplified as many field devices are automatically recognized in DeltaV. Multicore cables are replaced with Ethernet cables connecting various signal types back to the CHARM I/O Cards (CIOC) or CHARMs Smart Logic Solvers (CSLS).

Benefits

Reduce total install cost: Distributed CHARMs significantly lowers wiring and cable tray costs, along with associated labor. It also decreases the effort for wire preparation, termination, and labeling. Traditional loop sheets become less necessary or are eliminated. Wiring from terminations to field devices is simplified as devices are directly terminated to the CHARM I/O Block near the field devices, eliminating complex wire path documentation. Instrument loop checks are minimized due to direct communication between smart devices and the DeltaV system. Construction and EPC engineering costs are reduced by lessening field construction requirements.

Product Description

The Distributed CHARMs hardware includes:

The CHARM I/O Gateway, CHARM I/O Block, and IS CHARM I/O Block are equipped with Scanner Modules and Ethernet I/O Ports (IOP) for communication between the CIOC/CSLS and each CHARM via full-duplex 100BASE-TX Ethernet. These products support either a star or a fault-tolerant ring topology using copper Ethernet.

CHARM I/O Gateway

The CHARM I/O Gateway Carrier houses the CHARM I/O Scanner Module(s) and IOP(s), and optional protection covers for simplex configurations.

12 CHARM I/O Junction Box

This is a fully assembled aluminum box with a CHARM I/O Block on a DIN rail. It offers various redundancy options for scanner modules and IOPs. The box features 17 female threaded bosses for field device and Ethernet/power wiring, accepting 1/2" – 14 NPT or M20X1.5 fittings. It includes four M8 x 1 MM threaded holes on the back for mounting and four clearance holes for M6 screws.

An optional mounting kit is available for vertical pipe mounting.
