DeltaV™ Continuous Historian

Product Data Sheet - August 2019

Introduction

Are you looking for a distributed control system with a state-of-the-art historian? The DeltaV Continuous Historian provides a database designed for historical storage, retrieval, integration into the DeltaV system, and open access. As a product of Emerson, it supports the Plantweb digital ecosystem and provides a data repository for information from intelligent field devices. It is a vital component of the DeltaV system, fully integrated into configuration, installation, and operation.

Continuous process data is collected by the DeltaV Continuous Historian on any DeltaV workstation.

Benefits

Product Description

The DeltaV Continuous Historian, developed by Emerson, stores and retrieves process measurements and their associated status quickly and efficiently. It is built for the DeltaV system as an integral part of the Plantweb architecture. Configuration of parameters for collection is an integral component of a DeltaV control module, with advanced options including data compression limits and marking for automatic collection by an enterprise historian.

Configuration and Management

Each control module in your control strategy contains the historical configuration for its parameters. Parameter status is automatically collected with the value. When a new module is created or deleted, the DeltaV Continuous Historian is notified, and parameter collection is adjusted accordingly.

The DeltaV Continuous Historian database is managed through an Administration utility, which is provided on every DeltaV workstation. This utility enables backup, restore, export of datasets, creation of new Active and Extended data sets, and viewing of data set properties. The system supports Active, Current, and Extended data sets. Active and Current data sets are online, while Extended data sets are exported data that can be brought back online. The automated backup utility can manage these data sets programmatically.

The DeltaV Explorer allows users to drag and drop plant areas onto historians to configure data collection. Workstations are downloaded, and communications and history collection begin automatically.

Multiple DeltaV Continuous Historians can be supported in a single DeltaV system, allowing for historical backup capability.

Data Visualization and Reporting

Process History View is used to display data values and status collected by the historian. Users can build custom trend charts or launch historical trends from a module's faceplate in DeltaV Live or DeltaV Operate. Status information and alarm/event data are embedded in the trend for a more accurate historical picture.

DeltaV Reporter is an MS-Excel based tool for historical data analysis and reporting. It provides access to historical data, including time/date stamps, values, and status, and includes a browser for locating historical data.

The DeltaV OPC History Server provides an OPC Foundation HDA interface for accessing historical process data. The DeltaV History Web Service provides web methods for client applications to interact with the historian, returning data in XML or ADO Dataset format.

Embedded trend charts in DeltaV Live and DeltaV Operate display historical and real-time data. These charts can be configured with up to 10 pens (DeltaV Live) or 8 pens (DeltaV Operate) and can connect to a specific historian. Chart Builder facilitates creating trend charts by selecting an object on the display.
