Serie 880 Performance Adapter Panel Installation
This guide provides instructions for mounting the Series 880 Performance indicator using an adapter panel, particularly when the existing panel cutout is not the correct size.
Overview
If you are mounting a Series 880 Performance indicator into a panel that previously housed a different indicator, the existing cutout may be too small or too large for the 880 indicator. The following instructions detail the mounting of the adapter panel to address this situation.
For additional information on the 880 Performance indicator, refer to the Installation/Service Manual (Part No. 158387) or the Operation Manual (Part No. 152240). Manuals can be found and downloaded from the Rice Lake Weighing Systems website at www.ricelake.com.
Adapter Panel Parts
The adapter panel installation requires the following components:
- Mach 8-32NC x 5/8 Screw (Part No. 159438)
- Stainless Steel Sealing Washer (Part No. 75062)
- 880 Panel Adapter Plate (Part No. 159134)
- 8-32NC Hex Kep Nut (Part No. 14626)
- 880 Panel Gasket (Part No. 159135)
Figure 1: Adapter Panel Option Parts illustrates these components.
Adapting Panel Cutouts
If the existing panel cutout is too small for the DIN rail mounting plate, the cutout will need to be enlarged.
Note: If the panel where the indicator will be mounted has a thickness of 16ga (0.06) or less, it is not necessary to enlarge the cutout. The mounting posts will pass through the panel, adapter plate, and DIN rail mounting plate to the required depth to secure the display. Proceed to Step 2.
Step 1: Use the DIN rail mounting plate as a template to mark the panel and cut the opening to the required size. Ensure a minimum clearance of 6.3 mm (1/4 in.) between the mounting plate and the panel opening. Refer to Figure 2: Enlarge Opening (If Necessary).
Figure 2 shows the panel opening and indicates a minimum required clearance of 6.3 mm (1/4 in.) around the DIN rail mounting plate.
Mounting the Adapter Plate
Step 2: Use the adapter plate as a template to mark the hole locations for the screws. Ensure the plate is centered over the opening and that the larger hole is on the correct side. Figure 3: Adapter Plate as Template depicts this.
Step 3: Drill the holes.
Step 4: Align the adapter plate (gasket side facing the panel) with the drilled holes in the panel. Secure using screws, sealing washers, and nuts. Tighten to a torque of 0.9 Nm (8 in.-lb). Figure 4: Adapter Plate Installation illustrates this process.
Installing the Visualizer and Controller
Step 5: Install the gasket onto the visualizer assembly. Ensure it is seated correctly on the visualizer before mounting to guarantee a watertight seal.
Step 6: Attach the visualizer and mounting plate to the panel using the four supplied 8-32 Kep nuts (Part No. 14621).
IMPORTANT: Ensure the gasket is seated correctly on the visualizer assembly before mounting for a proper seal.
Figure 5: Visualizer Installation shows the visualizer assembly, adapter plate mounted on the existing panel, DIN rail mounting plate, and 8-32 Kep nuts.
Step 7: Connect the cable assembly to the controller assembly.
Step 8: Place the controller assembly onto the DIN rail as shown in Figure 6: Controller Assembly Installation.
Step 9: Secure to the DIN rail by rotating the left and right hooks upward to engage the lower rail.
Figure 6 includes a detail showing a slot that allows a screwdriver to be inserted to release the positioning detent before rotating the lever. It also shows connecting the cable assembly to the controller and rotating the hooks to secure to the lower DIN rail.
Step 10: Connect all connectors to the rear plate. Refer to the Installation/Service Manual (Part No. 158387) for connector locations.
