NUX NCH-4 UKIYO-E CHORUS
Mini Chorus Pedal
Overview
The NCH-4 Ukiyo-E Chorus is a mini chorus pedal that features three distinct chorus modes: ST Chorus, SCH-1, and CE-1. It utilizes NUX's DSP technology to reproduce traditional analog chorus tones.
Pedal Layout and Controls
The pedal features a compact enclosure with controls and connections clearly labeled:
- FOOTSWITCH: Engages or disengages the effect. The LED indicator lights up when the effect is ON.
- TAP switch & indicator: This switch cycles through the three chorus modes with a short press: ST Chorus (no light), SCH-1 (red light), and CE-1 (blue light). It also functions as a tap tempo control. For tap tempo, press and hold the switch while powering on the pedal to set the tempo, or use multiple presses to set the speed. The LED indicator flashes with the set tempo.
- INTENSITY Knob: Adjusts the intensity of the effect. In SCH-1 mode, this knob also controls the treble tone.
- WIDTH Knob: Adjusts the sweep range of the chorus effect.
- RATE Knob: Adjusts the speed of the sweep. When using tap tempo, this knob can be used to set subdivision positions.
- INPUT Jack: Connect your guitar cable here. A 1/4" TRS cable can be used for stereo input if the pedal is set to stereo mode.
- OUTPUT Jack: Connect to your amplifier here. A 1/4" TRS cable can be used for stereo output if the pedal is set to stereo mode.
- DC Jack: Connect a 9V DC, center-negative power supply (100mA or higher) or AC adapter here.
- USB-C Port: Used for firmware updates. Connect to a PC for downloading and installing updates from the NUX website.
Chorus Modes
- ST Chorus: Inspired by the MXR Stereo Chorus, this mode offers a gorgeous sound with simple controls.
- SCH-1: Modeled after the ARION SCH-1, known for its attractive vintage analog chorus. It produces a wide range of tones, from clean chorus to Leslie-like effects.
- CE-1: Inspired by the BOSS CE-1, the first chorus pedal. This mode replicates its warm and rich tone.
Operation Modes
- Stereo/Mono Mode Switching: Press and hold the FOOTSWITCH while powering on the pedal (connecting the adapter) to switch between mono and stereo modes. When the LED flashes green, it's mono mode; when it flashes red, it's stereo mode.
- Bypass Mode Switching: Press and hold the ON/OFF footswitch while powering on the pedal (connecting the AC adapter) to switch between buffer bypass (green LED) and true bypass (red LED). The LED color change is only visible at the moment of switching or when connecting power. In normal operation, the LED is red for both modes.
