Application

The Zurn Wilkins Model 500XLFC is engineered for installation on potable water lines to reduce high inlet pressure to a lower outlet pressure. Its high flow capacity makes it ideal for industrial water lines and commercial water systems. The balanced piston design ensures smooth and responsive reaction to system flow demand changes, while also protecting against inlet pressure fluctuations.

Flow Characteristics

The graph displays flow characteristics for the Model 500XLFC (2" thru 3") in standard and metric units. It plots Fall Off (kPa and PSIG) against Flow Rates (GPM and l/s). The graph shows distinct curves for 2" (50mm), 2 1/2" (65mm), and 3" (80mm) sizes. A note indicates that flow curves are based on a 50 psi pressure differential.

Typical Installation

Installation must comply with local codes, manufacturer's instructions, and the Uniform Plumbing Code. Ensure sufficient side clearance for testing and maintenance. The Model 500XLFC can be installed in any position. For pit or vault installations, or indoor applications, specify the "SC" sealed cage option. Multiple installations are recommended for wide demand variations or when pressure reduction exceeds a 4:1 ratio (e.g., 200 psi inlet to 50 psi outlet). CAUTION: Always use a pressure gauge downstream when adjusting the valve to verify the correct pressure setting. Do not bottom the adjustment bolt on the bell housing.

Specifications

The Pressure Reducing Valve is certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61. It features a bronze body and bell housing with flanged connections. The valve includes a separate access cover for the plunger and a bolt for adjusting downstream pressure. It utilizes a balanced piston design to reduce pressure in both flow and no-flow conditions. The bronze bell housing and access cap are threaded to the body and do not require ferrous screws. The Pressure Reducing Valve is a ZURN WILKINS Model 500XLFC.
