Getting Started

The Allegro Wireless Keyboard is a Bluetooth® keyboard that se­curely connects to the Archer 4 Rugged Handheld™ or other 8-inch (203 mm) or smaller third-party handheld devices, creating a convenient, handheld solution for mobile computing.

Keyboard Features
The Allegro Wireless Keyboard has a numeric keypad, function keys, and a QWERTY keyboard. The keys are sealed and have backlight illumination. To access the secondary function as­signed to a key, pressJUNIPER-SYSTEM-allegro-Wireless-Keyboard-Fig- (4) and then press the key.

Pair keyboard with handheld device: Press and hold for 5 seconds until the blue LED is rapidly blinking.

Unpair the devices: Press and hold for 10 seconds until the blue LED turns off.

Perform Initial Tasks

When you receive the Allegro Wireless Keyboard, complete the tasks outlined in this section before first use.

Install the Hand Strap
To install the hand strap,

  1. From the back of the keyboard, use the screwdriver (in­cluded with the keyboard) to remove a black screw from the right or left side of the keyboard, depending on which side you want the hand strap.JUNIPER-SYSTEM-allegro-Wireless-Keyboard-Fig- (9)
  2. Place the screw through the loop at the top of the hand strap. Insert the screw into the screw hole. Tighten the screw, securing the hand strap loop.
  3. Feed the strap through the attachment point on the bot­tom of the keyboard, and pull the strap tight.

Attach to Handheld Device
The Archer 4 and third-party handheld devices use different mounting brackets. Your keyboard has one of the brackets ex­plained below.

Attach Archer 4

  • The Archer 4 mounting bracket comes installed on the key­board.
  • To secure the Archer 4 in the mounting bracket,
  1. Place the long edge of the Archer 4 with the USB-C port on the right side in the mounting bracket.JUNIPER-SYSTEM-allegro-Wireless-Keyboard-Fig- (11)
  2. Press down and snap the other edge of the Archer 4 un­der the locking clip.

Attach Third-Party Device
The Allegro Wireless Keyboard uses the Quad Lock system to at­tach a third-party handheld device. The Quad Lock Lever Head is included with the keyboard, but you must purchase separately the Quad Lock case that fits your handheld device (available at quadlockcase.com) or the Quad Lock Universal Adaptor (avail­able through the Juniper Systems store or quadlockcase.com).

To attach the Quad Lock Lever Head to the keyboard

  1. Remove the Quad Lock Lever Head, attachment screw, and Allen wrench from its box.
  2. Use the screw and Allen wrench to attach the lever head to one of the mounting holes at the top of the keyboard. Se­lect the hole that best accommodates the size of your de­vice.JUNIPER-SYSTEM-allegro-Wireless-Keyboard-Fig- (12)

To attach the handheld device to the Quad Lock Lever Head

  1. Place the handheld device in a Quad Lock case, or attach the Quad Lock Universal Adaptor to the back of the hand­held device case.
  2. Press down on the blue Quad Lock lever.
  3. Align and connect the adaptor on the back of the hand­held device with the Quad Lock Lever Head at a 45° angle.
  4. Rotate the handheld device 45° and release the blue lever, locking the handheld device into place.JUNIPER-SYSTEM-allegro-Wireless-Keyboard-Fig- (13)
Charge the Keyboard

The Allegro Wireless Keyboard has an internal, non-removable battery that lasts up to 60 hours. Before powering on the key­board, charge the keyboard for 4‒6 hours at room temperature until fully charged. The keyboard charges most efficiently at room temperature (68°F or 20°C), but it will still charge at any temperature between 41–113°F (5–45°C). The keyboard may not charge outside of this range.

CAUTION:
Do not use the USB port if it is wet. Dry the port completely before connecting to power. Failure to do so will void the product warranty.

To charge the keyboard
Plug in the USB charger and cable, and connect it to the keyboard.

Note:
Use a USB charger that is 12V, 1.5A, 18W. The charg­ing kit available with the Allegro Wireless Keyboard meets this criteria.

The red LEDs at the bottom of the keyboard show the battery charge level. A blinking LED indicates that the keyboard is charging.

Prepare the Keyboard for Long-Term Storage
Store the keyboard in a clean, dry room with ventilation. The ide­al storage temperature is 41°–95°F (5°–35°C).

To store the keyboard for more than a month

  1. Charge/discharge the battery to 26–50%.
  2. Power off the keyboard.
  3. Check the keyboard battery every three months while in storage. If the battery is discharged below 26%, charge it to 26–50%.

    The LEDs at the bottom of the keyboard indicate the battery charge level.

Power On and Off the Keyboard
The following table describes how to power on and off the Alle­gro Wireless Keyboard.

POWER STATE

Power off Press and hold the Power keyJUNIPER-SYSTEM-allegro-Wireless-Keyboard-Fig- (8) for 2 sec­onds until the red LED turns off.
Pair the Keyboard

The Allegro Wireless Keyboard pairs to your handheld device through Bluetooth.

To pair the devices

  1. On your handheld device, make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
  2. On the keyboard, press and hold the Power keyJUNIPER-SYSTEM-allegro-Wireless-Keyboard-Fig- (8) for 5 seconds until the blue LED at the top of the keyboard is rapidly blinking. The keyboard is now in discovery mode.
  3. On your handheld device, select the Allegro Wireless Key­board from the list of available Bluetooth devices. A solid blue LED indicates the pairing was successful.

Unpair the Devices
To unpair the keyboard and handheld device

  1. Press and hold the Power keyJUNIPER-SYSTEM-allegro-Wireless-Keyboard-Fig- (8) for 10 seconds until the blue LED turns off.

Bluetooth LED Indicator
The blue LED at the top of the keyboard indicates the status of the Bluetooth connection.

BLUE LED

DESCRIPTION

Solid The keyboard is paired with a Bluetooth de­ vice.
Blinking slowly The keyboard is unpaired.
Blinking rapidly The keyboard is actively searching for a Bluetooth device.

Wake Devices from Sleep Mode
The Allegro Wireless Keyboard and handheld device remain paired in sleep mode.

To resume activity

  1. Press the Power keyJUNIPER-SYSTEM-allegro-Wireless-Keyboard-Fig- (8) on the keyboard.
  2. Wait for the blue LED to be solid.
  3. Press any key on the keyboard to wake the handheld de­vice.
  4. If a lock screen appears on the handheld device, press the Spacebar on the keyboard.

Adjust Keypad Backlight Settings
The keys on the Allegro Wireless Keyboard have four backlight illumination settings: high (default), medium, low, and off.

To change the keypad backlight setting

  1. PressJUNIPER-SYSTEM-allegro-Wireless-Keyboard-Fig- (4) and then pressJUNIPER-SYSTEM-allegro-Wireless-Keyboard-Fig- (15).
  2. Press the key combination again to cycle to the next back­light setting.
Set Command Key for iOS Devices

If you are using an iOS handheld device, you can set up the Ctrl key on the Allegro Wireless Keyboard to function as the Com­mand key.

To change the function of the Ctrl key

  1. Ensure the iOS device and keyboard are paired.
  2. On your iOS device, open Settings.
  3. Select General > Keyboard > Hardware Keyboard > Modi­fier Keys.
    Note: The Hardware Keyboard is only available if the iOS device and keyboard are paired.
  4. Open the menu for Control Key and select Command.

Product Warnings

Care and Maintenance Warnings

  • Apply warm water or a mild cleaning solution to a microfiber cloth and gently wipe the keyboard. Dry it with a microfiber cloth.
  • Do not direct a high-pressure stream of water at the Allegro Wireless Keyboard to clean it. This action can break the seal, causing water to get inside the keyboard and voiding the war­ranty.
  • Do not use abrasive pads, soft bristle brushes, or harsh cleaning solutions on the keyboard.
  • Exposure to some cleaning solutions may damage your key­board, including automotive brake cleaner, isopropyl alcohol, carburetor cleaner, and similar solutions. If you are uncertain about the strength or effect of a cleaner, apply a small amount to a less visible location as a test. If any visual change becomes apparent, promptly rinse and wash with a known mild cleaning solution or with water.
  • Do not attempt to repair the Allegro Wireless Keyboard yourself. This action voids the product warranty.

Battery Warnings

  • The Allegro Wireless Keyboard battery has an internal, non-re­movable battery. Battery replacement is only possible at a certi­fied repair center.
  • Opening the battery compartment voids the product warranty.
  • Charge the battery only within the temperature range of 41–113°F (5–45°C).

USB-C Cable and Wall Charger Warnings
To reduce the risk of personal injury, electrical shock, fire, or damage to the equipment:

  • Plug the USB-C cable and wall charger into an electrical outlet that is easily accessible at all times.
  • Do not place anything on the USB-C cable or wall charger.
  • Do not pull on the USB-C cable. When unplugging the USB-C cable and wall charger from the electrical outlet, pull on the charger (not the cable).
  • Use a USB charger that is 12V, 1.5A, 18W. The charging kit available with the keyboard meets these criteria.
  • Do not use the USB port if it is wet. Dry the port complete­ly before connecting to power. Failure to do so will void the product warranty.

Certifications and Declarations

United States
In compliance with the FCC rules 47 CFR 15.19(a)(3), the state­ments that follow must appear on the device or in the user doc­umentation.

This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation of this equipment is subject to the following two conditions:

  • The device may not cause harmful interference.
  • This device must accept any interference received, includ­ing interference that may cause undesired operation.

In compliance with the FCC rules, 47 CFR 15.105(b), the user must be notified that this equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, under part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residen­tial installation. In compliance with the FCC rules, 47 CFR 15.21, the user must be notified that changes or modifications to the Allegro Wireless Keyboard that are not expressly approved by the manufacturer could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.

Only approved accessories may be used with this equipment. In general, all cables must be high quality, shielded, correctly ter­minated, and normally restricted to two meters in length. USB chargers and cables approved for this product employ special provisions to avoid radio interference and should not be altered or substituted.

This device must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter.

Canada
This device complies with Industry Canada license-exempt RSS standard(s). Operation is subject to the following two conditions:

  1. This device may not cause interference, and
  2. This device must accept any interference, including inter­ference that may cause undesired operation of the device.

This Class B digital apparatus complies with Canadian ICES‑003. This device complies with RSS-310 of Industry Canada. Operation is subject to the condition that this device does not cause harm­ful interference. Warranty and Repair Information

Limited Product Warranty

Two-Year Warranty
Juniper Systems, Inc. (“Juniper”) warrants that the Allegro Wire­less Keyboard shall be free from defects in materials and work­manship, under normal intended use, for 24 months from the date of purchase, excepting that this warranty shall not ap­ply to accessories.

Ninety-Day Warranty
Juniper warrants the following shall be free from defects in ma­terials and workmanship, under normal intended use, for a peri­od of ninety (90) days from the date of shipment:

  • User documentation
  • Accessories

Warranty Exclusions 
This warranty shall not apply if:

  1. the product has been set up improperly or has been improperly installed or calibrated,
  2. the product is operated in a manner that is not in ac­cordance with the user documentation,
  3. the product is used for a purpose other than for which it was designed,
  4. the product has been used in environmental condi­tions outside of those specified for the product,
  5. the product has been subject to any modification, al­teration, or change by or on behalf of the customer (ex­cept and unless modified, changed, or altered by Ju­niper or under the direct supervision of Juniper),
  6. the defect or malfunction results from misuse or acci­dent,
  7. the product has been opened or tampered with in any way (such as the tamper-evident VOID label indi­cating certified IP [Ingress Protection] seal area has been tampered with or removed).

Parts that are excessively worn are not covered under warranty. These may include but are not limited to, the hand strap. The product warranty does not cover third-party handheld de­vices and the Quad Lock system.

This warranty is exclusive and Juniper will not assume and here­by expressly disclaims any further warranties, whether ex­pressed or implied, including, without limitation, any warranties as to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, nonin­fringement or any warranties arising from the course of perfor­mance, dealing, or usage of trade. Juniper specifically makes no warranties as to the suitability of its products for any particular application. Juniper makes no warranties that:

  • its products will meet your requirements or will work in combination with any hardware or applications software products provided by third parties,
  • the operation of its products will be uninterrupted or error-free, or
  • all defects in the product will be corrected.

Remedy 
In the event a defect in materials or workmanship is discovered and reported to Juniper within the specified warranty period, af­ter evaluation by a technician at a certified repair center, Juniper will, at its option, repair the defect or replace the defective part or product. Replacement products may be new or recondi­tioned. Juniper warrants any replaced or repaired product for ninety (90) days from the date of return shipment, or through the end of the original warranty period, whichever is longer.

Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, the obligation of Juniper shall be limited to the repair or replacement of the product. Juniper shall in no event be liable for special, incidental, consequential, indirect, special, or punitive damages of any kind, or for loss of revenue or profits, loss of business, loss of information or data, or other financial loss arising out of or in connection with the sale, installation, maintenance, use, performance, failure, or interrup­tion of any product. Any responsibility and/or liability of Juniper shall, in connection with a warranted product, be limited in max­imum amount to the original purchase price.

Governing Law
This warranty is governed by the laws of Utah, U.S.A., and ex­cludes the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the In­ternational Sale of Goods. The courts of Utah shall have exclusive personal jurisdiction in case of any disputes arising out of or in connection with this warranty.

Warranty Service
In order to obtain a warranty product repair, replacement, or other servicing, contact our customer service department or fill out the Repair Order Form within the applicable warranty peri­od. The customer must prepay all shipping costs for delivery of the product to the repair center. Please visit our Repair Policies webpage for further details.

Warranty Repairs

  • Warranty information for the Allegro Wireless Keyboard is locat­ed on our website at https://junipersys.com/support/allegro-wireless-keyboard/my-product then Warranty. You can check warranty status, view warranty terms and conditions, etc.
  • Standard repair orders and three-day Expedite Service repair or­ders are valid for 30 days from the date issued. One-day Expe­dite Service repair orders are valid for seven days from the date issued. Wait to request a repair until you are ready to send the product.

Services and Materials Provided Under Warranty

  • Analysis of problem by service technical personnel
  • Labor and materials required to fix defective parts
  • Functional analysis performed after repair
  • Shipping costs to return the unit to the customer.

Juniper strives to provide continued full repair services for our products for up to five years from the final production date of each product model. However, in some rare cases (depending on the repair need), it may not be possible to perform a repair due to an unforeseen discontinuation or lack of supplied parts from third-party vendors. Repair support for a product may con­tinue beyond five years if obtaining replacement parts or tools remains economically feasible. Our policy is that we will do what is best and most beneficial for our customers and company.

Complete Care Service Plan
We offer service plan options that provide additional benefits through participating repair centers. Services include:

  • Service plan coverage up to five years from the original product ship date.
  • Up to a 50% discount on all charged repairs.
  • Expedited repairs and return shipping at no additional charge.

Repairs, Upgrades, and Evaluations

CAUTION:
Do not attempt to repair the Allegro Wireless Key­ board yourself. This action voids the warranty.

You can locate a repair center, submit a repair order, check repair status, view terms and conditions, get shipping instructions, and view lead times.

Before returning the keyboard, submit a repair order from our website and wait for confirmation or contact a repair center di­rectly. Be prepared to provide the following information:

  • The product serial number. Found on the back of the Alle­gro Wireless Keyboard.
  • Name and shipping address of company/university/agency.
  • Best contact method (phone, fax, email, cell/mobile).
  • Clear, highly detailed description of the repair or upgrade.
  • Credit card/purchase order number and billing address (for a repair or upgrade that is not covered by the stan­dard warranty or an extended warranty policy).

Extended Warranties

  • The Allegro Wireless Keyboard can be warranted for up to five years (including the standard warranty period) through the purchase of an extended warranty.
  • Extended warranties apply only to the Allegro Wireless Key­board, not battery packs, user documentation, and accessories. Parts that are excessively worn are not covered under all warran­ty plans. These may include, but are not limited to, hand straps.

System Information
When you contact a repair center, you need some unique sys­tem ID information for your Allegro Wireless Keyboard (serial number, model number, etc.).
