The KOTLIE EM-308B is a versatile single-serve espresso machine designed for various coffee preparations. It supports multiple capsule types, ground coffee, and ESE pods, offering flexibility for different brewing preferences.

3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking and Initial Cleaning

  1. Carefully remove all packaging materials and ensure all components are present (refer to Package Contents section).
  2. Wash the water tank, drip tray, and all capsule adapters/filters with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  3. Wipe the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth.

3.2 Filling the Water Tank

  1. Remove the water tank from the back of the machine by lifting it upwards.
  2. Fill the tank with fresh, cold water up to the 'MAX' line (34 oz / 1.0 L capacity).
  3. Place the water tank back onto the machine, ensuring it is securely seated.

3.3 First Use (Rinsing Cycle)

Before brewing coffee for the first time, perform a rinsing cycle to clean the internal components.

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled.
  2. Place an empty cup on the drip tray.
  3. Do not insert any capsule or ground coffee.
  4. Press the power button to turn on the machine. Wait for the temperature indicator to stabilize.
  5. Select the highest water volume setting and press the brew button.
  6. Allow the machine to dispense hot water into the cup. Discard the water.
  7. Repeat this process 2-3 times.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Powering On and Preheating

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled with fresh water.
  2. Plug the machine into a power outlet.
  3. Press the power button (U) on the touchscreen panel. The machine will begin preheating, indicated by flashing lights.
  4. Wait for the lights to become solid, indicating the machine is ready for brewing.

4.2 Inserting Coffee

The machine comes with various adapters for different coffee types.

  1. For Capsules (K-Cup, Nespresso Original, Dolce Gusto): Open the machine's lid, insert the appropriate capsule adapter, and place the capsule into the adapter. Close the lid securely.
  2. For Ground Coffee/ESE Pods: Open the machine's lid, insert the universal base with the metal filter for ground coffee or ESE pod. Fill the filter with ground coffee (use the included scoop and tamper) or place an ESE pod. Close the lid securely.

4.3 Selecting Temperature and Water Volume

Use the temperature and water volume buttons on the touchscreen panel to customize your brew.

4.4 Brewing Coffee

  1. Place your cup on the drip tray. The drip tray has 3 height settings to accommodate various cup sizes.
  2. Once coffee is inserted and settings are selected, press the brew button ().
  3. The machine will begin brewing. The water volume indicator lights will decrease as water is dispensed.
  4. The machine will automatically stop when the selected water volume is reached.
  5. Carefully remove your cup.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Daily Cleaning

  1. Water Tank: Empty and rinse the water tank daily. Refill with fresh water before each use.
  2. Drip Tray: The drip tray is removable for easy cleaning. Empty and wash it with warm, soapy water after each use or when full.
  3. Capsule Adapters/Filters: After each use, remove and clean the used capsule adapter or ground coffee filter. Rinse under running water to remove any coffee residue.
  4. Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

5.2 Descaling

Regular descaling is essential to maintain machine performance and extend its lifespan. The frequency depends on water hardness and usage.

  1. Use a descaling solution specifically designed for coffee machines. Follow the instructions provided with the descaling solution.
  2. Fill the water tank with the descaling solution and water mixture as per the descaler's instructions.
  3. Place a large container under the coffee spout.
  4. Run several brewing cycles without coffee until the water tank is empty.
  5. Rinse the water tank thoroughly and fill it with fresh water.
  6. Run several rinsing cycles with fresh water to remove any descaling solution residue.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your KOTLIE EM-308B, refer to the following table before contacting support.
