Important Safety Instructions
Please read all instructions before using this fan. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
- Always unplug the fan before cleaning or servicing.
- Do not operate any fan with a damaged cord or plug. Discard fan or return to an authorized service facility for examination and/or repair.
- Do not run cord under carpeting. Do not cover cord with throw rugs, runners, or similar coverings. Arrange cord away from traffic area where it will not be tripped over.
- This fan is intended for indoor use only. Do not use outdoors or in wet locations.
- Do not insert fingers or foreign objects into any ventilation or exhaust opening.
- Ensure the fan is securely installed in the window opening before operation.
Setup and Installation
The Vornado PORTAL® Window Fan is designed for horizontal installation in windows 24 to 38 inches wide, with at least an 8-inch tall opening. It utilizes an innovative modular block system for a secure, custom-like fit.
- Prepare the Window: Open your window to the desired height. Ensure the window sill is clean and clear of obstructions. Window screen removal may be necessary depending on the depth of your window.
- Position the Fan: Place the Vornado PORTAL® fan unit into the window opening. The fan should rest on the window sill.
- Install Modular Blocks: Extend the side panels of the fan or use the provided modular blocks to fill the remaining gap in the window opening. Ensure a snug fit to prevent air leakage and secure the fan.
- Lower Window Sash: Carefully lower the window sash until it rests firmly against the top of the fan unit, securing it in place.
- Plug In: Plug the power cord into a standard 120V AC electrical outlet.

Operating Instructions
Your Vornado PORTAL® Window Fan features intuitive touch controls for easy operation.
- Power On/Off: Press the Power button (⑂) to turn the fan on or off.
- Adjust Speed: Press the Plus (+) or Minus (-) buttons to cycle through the 3 speed settings (Low, Medium, High). Indicator lights will illuminate to show the current speed setting.
- Reversible Exhaust Mode: Press the Reversible button (⇆) to switch between intake (pulling air in) and exhaust (pushing air out) modes. This allows you to control the direction of airflow for optimal comfort and ventilation.

Maintenance
Regular cleaning of your Vornado PORTAL® Window Fan will help maintain its performance and extend its lifespan.
- Cleaning: Unplug the fan before cleaning. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe down the exterior surfaces. Do not use gasoline, thinners, solvents, ammonia, or other chemicals.
- Grille Cleaning: Use a vacuum cleaner with the brush attachment to remove any dust or debris from the grilles.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the fan in a cool, dry place.
Troubleshooting
If your Vornado PORTAL® Window Fan is not performing as expected, please refer to the following common issues and solutions:
