Making Espresso:
- Prepare Portafilter: Insert the desired filter basket (single or double) into the portafilter.
- Add Coffee Grounds: Use the included spoon to add finely ground espresso coffee to the filter basket. For a single shot, use one level spoon; for a double shot, use two.
- Tamp Coffee: Lightly tamp the coffee grounds evenly. Wipe any excess grounds from the rim of the portafilter.
- Attach Portafilter: Align the portafilter with the group head on the machine and twist it firmly to the right until it is securely locked.
- Place Cup: Place your espresso cup(s) on the drip tray directly under the portafilter spouts.
- Brew: Once the machine is heated and ready (indicated on the LCD panel), press the single cup or double cup button to start brewing. The machine will automatically stop when the desired volume is reached. For manual control, press the manual brew button.
- Remove Portafilter: After brewing, carefully remove the portafilter by twisting it to the left. Dispose of the used coffee grounds.
Using the Milk Frother:
- Prepare Milk: Fill a stainless steel frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to just below the spout.
- Activate Steam: Turn the steam knob to the steam position. Wait for the machine to heat up to steam temperature (indicated on the LCD).
- Purge Steam Wand: Briefly open the steam knob to release any condensed water from the wand into a separate cup. Close the knob.
- Froth Milk: Immerse the tip of the steam wand just below the surface of the milk. Slowly open the steam knob. Angle the pitcher slightly to create a swirling motion. For microfoam, keep the tip near the surface; for more foam, lower it slightly.
- Monitor Temperature: Continue frothing until the milk reaches your desired temperature (around 140-150°F / 60-65°C). The pitcher will become hot to the touch.
- Clean Wand: Immediately after frothing, close the steam knob. Wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue. Briefly open the steam knob again to purge any milk from inside the wand.
Adjusting Temperature:
The machine allows you to adjust the brewing temperature to your preference. Refer to the LCD control panel and the specific temperature adjustment function described in the full user manual for detailed steps.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and longevity of your machine.
- Daily Cleaning:
- Empty and rinse the drip tray after each use.
- Wipe down the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth.
- Clean the steam wand immediately after each use as described in the operating instructions.
- Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove spent coffee grounds and rinse the portafilter and filter basket under running water.
- Water Tank: Empty and rinse the detachable water tank daily. Refill with fresh water.
- Descaling: Depending on your water hardness, descaling should be performed every 2-3 months. Use a commercial descaling solution designed for espresso machines and follow the product's instructions.
Troubleshooting
Refer to this section for common issues and their solutions.
- No Power: Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a working outlet. Check the power button on the machine.
- No Coffee Dispensing: Check if the water tank is empty. The machine features smart water alerts. Ensure the portafilter is correctly locked in place.
- Weak Coffee/Slow Flow: Coffee grounds might be too fine or tamped too hard. Clean the filter basket and group head. Descaling might be needed.
- Frother Not Producing Steam: Ensure the machine is at steam temperature. Purge the wand to clear any blockages. Clean the steam wand thoroughly.
- Overheating Alert: If an overheating alert appears, allow the machine to cool down. When refilling after a low water alert, rotate the milk frother's button to release pressure, which helps prevent overheating and prolongs machine lifespan.
