Before First Use
- To ensure the first cup of coffee tastes excellent, prepare the coffee maker as follows:
- Remove the plug at the bottom of the water reservoir.
- Fill the water reservoir with ambient temperature water up to the “MAX” mark.
- Place an empty cup/mug under the steam wand.
- Connect the machine to a power source, press the ON/OFF button. The power indicator turns on and the machine starts to preheat. Preheating takes about 2 minutes.
- Once preheating is finished, all buttons will light up.
- Rotate the steam knob to the [steam/hot water symbol] position; the machine will start to make hot water.
- Let the hot water come out of the steam wand for 8 seconds, then return the steam knob to the OFF position. This process fills the empty pump for the first time. DISCARD the used water.
- Place the brewing filter without ground coffee into the portafilter. Place the portafilter at a 45° angle to the left and slot it into the brew head, then rotate it to the right to lock it in place. The portafilter should be installed at a right angle to the machine or with a slight tilt to the right. [Diagram showing portafilter insertion and lock mechanism].
- Place an empty cup/mug under the portafilter. Choose single or double shot to brew. After the brewing cycle, DISCARD the used water.
NOTE:
- There may be loud noise and slight shaking when the machine pumps water for the first time. This is normal as the machine releases air from the system. The noise will be weaker in future use.
- The filter might be snug and difficult to remove from the portafilter. You can use a different filter to help pry it out.
Making Espresso
Using a cold portafilter, filters, and cups can lower extraction temperature, impacting espresso quality. It is advisable to run a brewing cycle without ground coffee to preheat them before extraction.
- Remove the portafilter by turning it clockwise. Place the brew filter into the portafilter, ensuring it fits properly.
- Use the measure spoon, add ground coffee to the brewing filter, then tamp the ground coffee down tightly with the spoon.
- Ensure the steam knob is in the OFF position.
- Press the Coffee Brewing and Temperature buttons according to your preference.
Check out the Quick Start Guide (brochure) for more brewing advice.
Frothing Milk / Making Cappuccino or Latte
Before starting, slightly move the steam wand outwards to insert the steam nozzle underneath the milk pitcher and facilitate correct frothing movements.
- Press the Steam button. If the temperature is too low to produce steam, the Preheat icon will flash, and the machine will be preheating.
- The Preheat icon will disappear once preheating is done, leaving only the Steam icon displayed.
- Rotate the steam knob counter-clockwise to remove condensation from the wand before turning it off.
- Place the milk pitcher (half-filled with cold whole milk) beneath the steam wand. Ensure the steam nozzle is positioned just under the milk surface, avoiding placements that are too deep or too shallow. Maintain a strong vortex by positioning the steam wand centrally but towards the edge of the milk pitcher at the correct angle. [Diagram showing OK and NO positions for steam wand in milk pitcher].
- Rotate the steam knob to the [steam/hot water symbol] position. Steam will come out of the steam wand.
- After reaching the desired frothing consistency, push the steam nozzle further into the milk to ensure thorough heating.
- After frothing, rotate the knob to the OFF position. Press the steam button again to quit steam mode.
- Rotate the steam knob to make hot water to clean any leftover milk from the wand. Return the knob when finished.
NOTE:
- When finished steaming, rotate the knob to OFF and press the steam button to return to standby mode.
- After steaming, the machine is under overheat protection. Cool it down before making another coffee. See section Overheat Protection.
WARNING: The steam wand is very HOT during and after use. To prevent burns, use only the rubber tip on the steam wand to move it.
Check out the Quick Start Guide (brochure) for more brewing advice.
Making Hot Water
Place a cup under the steam wand. Rotate the knob to the [steam/hot water symbol] position. Hot water will come out from the steam wand. Return knob to OFF when done.
Restoring Default Mode
To reset the machine to default mode, press and hold the Coffee Brewing and Temperature buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds. All buttons will flash 5 times. The machine will return to default settings. [Visual indicator for 5 seconds]
Water Shortage Warning
When the water shortage warning is triggered, the Water Shortage icon will flash, and the Coffee Brewing, Temperature, and Steam buttons will light off. Proceed as follows:
- Press the ON/OFF button and turn off the machine.
- Refill the water reservoir with ambient temperature water.
- Place a cup under the steam wand. Turn on the machine.
- Rotate the steam knob to the [steam/hot water symbol] position; the machine will pump water.
- When the machine returns to standby mode and all buttons light up, the water storage has been replenished.
- Return the knob to OFF. The machine is now ready to use.
Overheat Protection
Wait before making coffee after frothing milk, as the boiler temperature is high and the machine is under overheat protection. If you press the Coffee Brewing button, the Overheat icon will light up. Proceed as follows to cool down the machine:
- Rotate the steam knob to the [steam/hot water symbol] position to make hot water.
- Let hot water come out from the steam wand to cool down the boiler.
- When an audible signal sounds and hot water stops, the Overheat icon will disappear. The boiler has been cooled down.
- Return the knob to OFF. The machine is now ready to use.
WARNING: If you still want to brew coffee without cooling down the machine, press the Coffee Brewing Button again, and the machine will start working. (This is not recommended as the coffee may have a burnt taste.)
Auto Shut-Off
If no operation is chosen within 15 minutes in standby mode, the machine will automatically power down, turning off all buttons. To restart, simply press the ON/OFF button once more.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Cleaning the Appliance
- DO NOT clean with alcohol or solvent cleanser.
- NEVER immerse the housing in water.
- Rotate the knob to OFF and allow the coffee machine to cool down sufficiently before cleaning.
- Regularly clean the housing with a damp sponge, then clean the water reservoir, drip tray, and drip plate, and dry them.
- Clean portafilter with cleanser or warm water.
- Clean all attachments and dry thoroughly.
Cleaning the Portafilter and Filters
If a filter is blocked with very fine powder during brewing, immerse the filter in boiling water for 10 minutes to unclog it, then rinse with running water.
WARNING: DO NOT wash any parts in the dishwasher. To avoid burns, the filter must only be removed when the portafilter has cooled down sufficiently.
Cleaning the Steam Wand
Immediately after frothing milk, turn the steam knob on to purge residual milk from the wand. Clean the wand with a damp cloth. If the steam nozzle hole becomes blocked, ensure the steam knob is at OFF position. Turn off the machine, allow it to cool, and use a pin to unblock the hole.
Cleaning the Brew Head
Regularly remove coffee grounds from the brew head using a brush and wash with hot water. Insert the portafilter without coffee grounds. Place a cup under the brew head and press the coffee brewing button twice to fill the cup. Then remove the portafilter from the brew head and clean it with a dry cloth.
WARNING: Do not attempt to disassemble the brew head. It will damage the brew head and lead to leakage.
Descaling
To ensure efficient operation, clean internal pipes, and preserve coffee flavor, the coffee machine needs periodic descaling, cleaning, and maintenance. After 500 brew cycles, a descaling cycle is necessary. Otherwise, the Descale warning will appear at every start-up.
Follow these steps for descaling:
- Fill the water reservoir with descaling agent (4 parts water to 1 part descaling agent) up to the “MAX” marking.
- Place a cup/mug or receptacle on the drip tray and press and hold the Temperature and Steam buttons together for 5 seconds. The machine will start the descaling cycle and run for 7 minutes, then stop automatically. [Visual indicator for 5 seconds].
- Repeat the previous steps until the water with descaling agent is running out.
- Next, repeat the process two more times using only CLEAN TAP WATER without any descaling agent.
NOTE: Refer to descaling agent instructions. Use a household descaling agent or citric acid (100 parts water to 3 parts citric acid) instead of a commercial descaling agent.
