4. Operating Instructions
The DM2000 features auto-ranging capabilities, simplifying most measurements. For specific functions, use the rotary dial and the "FUNC" button.
4.1. Auto Mode vs. Manual Range
By default, the multimeter operates in Auto mode, automatically selecting the appropriate range. To exit Auto mode and manually select a range:
- Press and hold the "SELECT" button for a few seconds. The "AUTO" indicator on the display will disappear.
- Use the "RANGE" button to cycle through available manual ranges.
- To return to Auto mode, press and hold the "SELECT" button again.
Video 2: Illustrates the difference between Auto and Regular (Manual) mode and how to switch between them. This video is for a similar AstroAI multimeter model (DM6000AR) but the principles apply.
4.2. Voltage Measurement (AC/DC)
To measure voltage:
- Set the rotary dial to the "V~" (AC Voltage) or "V-" (DC Voltage) position. In Auto mode, the meter will attempt to detect AC or DC automatically.
- Connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack and the red test lead to the "VΩHz" jack.
- Carefully touch the probe tips to the points where you want to measure voltage.
- Read the voltage value on the display. The intelligent LED Jack Indicator will guide you to the correct jacks.

Video 3: Demonstrates voltage measurement using the multimeter. This video is for a similar AstroAI multimeter model (DM6000AR) but the principles apply.
4.3. Current Measurement (AC/DC)
To measure current:
- Set the rotary dial to the "A~" (AC Current) or "A-" (DC Current) position.
- Connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack.
- For currents less than 400mA, connect the red test lead to the "mAµA" terminal. For currents between 400mA and 10A, connect the red test lead to the "10A" terminal. Always start with the 10A terminal if unsure, then switch to mA/µA if the reading is inaccurate or "OL" (Overload) is displayed.
- Open the circuit and connect the multimeter in series with the load.
- Read the current value on the display.

Figure 3: The DM2000 features visual alerts for high voltage and current, enhancing safety during measurements.
Video 4: Demonstrates current measurement, emphasizing correct test lead connection based on current range. This video is for a similar AstroAI multimeter model (DM6000AR) but the principles apply.
4.4. Resistance Measurement
To measure resistance:
- Set the rotary dial to the "Ω" (Resistance) position.
- Connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack and the red test lead to the "VΩHz" jack.
- Ensure the circuit or component is de-energized before measuring resistance.
- Touch the probe tips across the component or circuit to be measured.
- Read the resistance value on the display.
4.5. Continuity Measurement
To check for continuity:
- Set the rotary dial to the "Continuity" position (often shared with Diode or Resistance).
- Connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack and the red test lead to the "VΩHz" jack.
- Ensure the circuit or component is de-energized.
- Touch the probe tips across the points to be tested. A continuous beep indicates a complete circuit (continuity).
Video 5: Demonstrates continuity measurement, showing how the multimeter beeps when a continuous circuit is detected. This video is for a similar AstroAI multimeter model (DM6000AR) but the principles apply.
4.6. Capacitance Measurement

To perform a non-contact voltage test:
- Set the rotary dial to the "NCV" position.
- Bring the top of the multimeter close to the wire or electrical outlet.
- The multimeter will beep and the NCV indicator light will illuminate (green for low voltage, red for high voltage) if AC voltage is detected.

Figure 4: The DM2000's NCV function allows for safe detection of AC voltage without direct contact.
4.11. Live Wire Detection
To detect live wires:
- Set the rotary dial to the "Live" position.
- Touch the red test lead to the suspected live wire or terminal.

5. Maintenance
5.1. Cleaning
Wipe the multimeter casing with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents.
5.2. Battery Replacement
When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries as described in Section 3.1.
5.3. Fuse Replacement
If the current measurement function stops working, the fuse may need replacement. Refer to the full user manual for detailed instructions on accessing and replacing the internal fuses. Always use fuses with the specified ratings to maintain safety and functionality.
6. Troubleshooting
- "OL" or "Over Range" Display: If the multimeter shows "OL" or "Over Range" in manual range, it means the measured value exceeds the selected range. You must select a higher range or switch to Auto mode to get a valid reading.
- No Display/Power: Check battery installation and ensure batteries are not depleted.
- Inaccurate Readings: Ensure test leads are properly connected and not damaged. Verify the correct measurement function and range are selected. For resistance measurements, ensure the circuit is de-energized.
- Resistance Measurement Fluctuating: As noted in user reviews, sometimes a residue on the probes/leads from manufacturing can cause fluctuations. Try rubbing the probe tips with a brown paper bag or packaging paper to clean them.
