4. Installation Guide
The Hornbill Smart Lock is designed for straightforward installation. Refer to the included physical installation manual for detailed step-by-step instructions and diagrams. An installation video is also available to assist you.
4.1 Door Compatibility
Ensure your door meets the following specifications:
- Door Thickness: 1.49-1.88 inches (38-48 mm)
- Backset: 2-3/8 inches (60 mm) or 2-3/4 inches (70 mm)
- Hole Diameter: 2-1/8 inches (54 mm) for the main lock, and 3/8 inches (10 mm) for the lower handle bolt.
- Distance between holes: 200-230mm.

4.2 Replacing Existing Handles
The design allows for easy replacement of various existing door handles without requiring additional drilling for the main lock mechanism. The lower handle's screw hole is adjustable for convenience.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Unlocking Methods
- Bluetooth APP Control: Use the dedicated Hornbill app on your smartphone to unlock the door when within Bluetooth range.
- Anti-peep Passcode: Enter your unique passcode on the keypad. You can add random digits before or after your actual code to prevent others from guessing it.
- IC Cards: Tap the provided IC card on the designated area of the lock to unlock.
- Physical Key: Use the traditional physical key as a backup unlocking method.
- One-Touch Lock: Simply press and hold the '#' key on the keypad to lock the door.

5.2 Smart Features
- Auto Lock: Configure the lock to automatically lock after a set period (0-15 minutes) via the app, providing peace of mind.
- Passage Mode: Temporarily disable auto-lock for periods of high traffic, keeping the door unlocked until manually locked.
- Emergency Charge (USB-C): If batteries are completely depleted, the lock can be temporarily powered via a USB-C cable for emergency access.
- Low Battery Alert: The lock will provide visual and audible alerts when the battery level drops below 20%, prompting you to replace them.
- Wrong Entry Alert: The lock will trigger an alert after multiple incorrect passcode attempts, deterring unauthorized access.

5.3 App Functionality
The Hornbill app provides extensive control and monitoring capabilities:
- Code Management: Create and manage permanent, timed, one-time, or custom passcodes for various users.
- IC Card Management: Program and manage up to 1000 IC cards.
- Access Logs: View real-time access logs to track who enters and exits.
- Remote Control (with Gateway): Lock/unlock the door remotely, share/modify passcodes, and integrate with Alexa/Google Home.

6. Maintenance
6.1 Durability and Environmental Conditions
The Hornbill Smart Lock is built to withstand various environmental conditions. It is rated IP63 waterproof, meaning it is protected against water spray from any direction. It can operate reliably in temperatures ranging from -4°F to 158°F (-20°C to 70°C).

6.2 Battery Replacement
When the low battery alert is triggered, replace the batteries promptly to ensure continuous operation. The lock uses standard batteries (not included).
6.3 Cleaning
Clean the lock's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish or electronic components.

If you encounter issues with your Hornbill Smart Lock, please refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:
- Lock not responding: Check battery levels. If completely drained, use the USB-C emergency charge port or physical key.
- Keypad not working: Ensure the keypad is clean and free from debris. Re-enter the passcode carefully, utilizing the anti-peep feature.
- App connectivity issues: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone. If using Wi-Fi remote access, verify your G2 gateway is properly connected and online.
- Lock/Unlock direction reversed: This can sometimes be resolved by adjusting the internal toggle switch for door handing or by correcting the door handing setting within the app. Refer to the installation manual for specific instructions.
- IC Card not recognized: Ensure the card is correctly placed on the reader. Re-program the IC card if necessary via the app.
