Follow these steps to set up your new Smeg Fully Automatic Coffee Machine.
1.1 Unboxing and Placement
- Carefully remove all packaging materials and ensure all components are present.
- Place the machine on a stable, flat, and dry surface, away from heat sources and water.
- Ensure adequate ventilation around the machine.
1.2 Filling the Water Tank
- Locate the removable water tank at the back of the machine.
- Lift the tank out and fill it with fresh, cold water up to the MAX level indicator.
- Carefully reinsert the water tank into its position.

1.3 Loading Coffee Beans
- Open the coffee bean hopper lid on top of the machine.
- Pour fresh coffee beans into the hopper. Do not overfill.
- Close the hopper lid securely.

1.4 Initial Rinse Cycle
- Before first use, perform a rinse cycle to clean the internal circuits.
- Place a container under the coffee dispenser.
- Refer to the operating section for initiating a cleaning cycle.
2. Operating the Machine
Your Smeg coffee machine offers various options for your favorite coffee beverages.
2.1 Control Panel Overview
The intuitive control panel allows for easy selection of drink types and settings.

2.2 Brewing Coffee
- Place your cup under the coffee dispenser. The adjustable coffee outlet height accommodates various cup sizes.
- Select your desired coffee type (e.g., Espresso, Americano) from the control panel.
- Adjust strength and temperature settings if available and desired.
- Press the start button to begin brewing.

2.3 Using the Steam Wand (Milk Frother)
The integrated steam wand allows you to froth milk for lattes, cappuccinos, and other milk-based drinks.
- Fill a pitcher with cold milk.
- Submerge the steam wand tip just below the milk surface.
- Activate the steam function on the control panel.
- Move the pitcher up and down to create desired froth.
- Turn off the steam function when finished and clean the wand immediately.

3. Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure optimal performance and longevity of your coffee machine.
3.1 Cleaning the Drip Tray and Coffee Grounds Container
- The drip tray and coffee grounds container should be emptied and cleaned regularly.
- Slide out the drip tray from the front of the machine.
- Remove the coffee grounds container.
- Wash both components with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Dry completely before reinserting.

3.2 Cleaning the Brew Unit
- Ensure the machine is switched on.
- Open the service door on the side of the machine.
- Press the two release buttons on the brew unit and pull it out.
- Rinse the brew unit under running water. Do not use detergent.
- Allow it to air dry completely before reinserting.

3.3 Cleaning the Steam Wand
- After each use, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth.
- Periodically, remove the outer part of the steam wand and rinse it under running water.
3.4 Descaling
- The machine will indicate when descaling is required.
- Follow the instructions in the full user manual for the specific descaling procedure using a suitable descaling solution.

4. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your coffee machine, refer to the common problems and solutions below.
- Error Messages (Water Tank, Waste Bin, Coffee Beans): If the machine displays error messages indicating an empty water tank, full waste bin, or empty coffee beans when they are not, try removing and reinserting the respective components. Ensure they are correctly seated. Clean sensors if visible and accessible.
- Inconsistent Drink Quality: This can be due to incorrect grind settings, stale beans, or a dirty brew unit. Adjust grind fineness, use fresh beans, and ensure the brew unit is clean.
- Machine Not Working/Leaking: If the machine does not power on, produces no coffee, or shows signs of internal leaking, first check the power connection and water tank. For persistent or severe issues like internal leaks, contact customer support.
- No Milk Froth: Ensure the steam wand is clean and not clogged. Use fresh, cold milk.
