Setup

Winding the Watch

Your Citizen NB3020-16W is a mechanical watch that requires winding to operate. It features an automatic movement, meaning it winds itself with the motion of your wrist. However, if the watch has stopped or has not been worn for an extended period, manual winding is necessary to initiate operation and build up the power reserve.

  1. Ensure the crown is in the normal (pushed-in) position.
  2. Turn the crown clockwise slowly for approximately 30-40 rotations. This will fully wind the mainspring.
  3. The power reserve indicator at the 9 o'clock position will show the current power level. A full wind will move the indicator to its maximum position.

For daily wear, the automatic winding mechanism should keep the watch sufficiently wound. If worn daily for 8-10 hours, manual winding may not be frequently required.

Setting the Time and Date

  1. Pull out the crown: Gently pull the crown out to the first click position to set the date, and to the second click position to set the time.
  2. Setting the Date: (First click position) Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise until the correct date appears in the date window at 3 o'clock. Avoid setting the date between 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM, as this can damage the movement. If the time is within this period, first advance the time past 3:00 AM, then set the date, and finally set the correct time.
  3. Setting the Time: (Second click position) Turn the crown to move the hour and minute hands. The second hand will stop, allowing for precise time setting. Advance the hands past 12 o'clock to ensure the AM/PM is correctly set for the 24-hour sub-dial at 6 o'clock. Once the correct time is set, push the crown back into the normal position. The second hand will resume movement.

Operating Your Watch

Daily Wear and Power Reserve

When worn regularly, the natural motion of your arm will keep the watch wound. The power reserve indicator at 9 o'clock shows how much power is stored in the mainspring. A fully wound watch typically has a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it will stop. Simply re-wind it manually as described in the "Setup" section.

Accuracy of Mechanical Watches

Mechanical watches, by their nature, do not achieve the same level of accuracy as quartz watches. Minor variations in daily accuracy are normal and can be influenced by factors such as temperature, position, and activity level. Your Citizen NB3020-16W is designed to meet Citizen's high standards for mechanical watch performance.

Maintenance

Cleaning and Care

  • Wipe the watch case and crystal regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and fingerprints.
  • For the leather strap, avoid prolonged exposure to water, direct sunlight, and harsh chemicals, as these can cause deterioration. Clean with a damp cloth and mild soap if necessary, then dry thoroughly.
  • Do not use solvents, detergents, or chemical cleaning agents on your watch.

Water Resistance

While your watch is designed for daily wear, it is important to understand its water resistance capabilities. Unless otherwise specified on the watch or in its documentation, avoid exposing your mechanical watch to water. Water damage is not typically covered under warranty. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in before any potential exposure to moisture.

Periodic Servicing

Like any precision mechanical instrument, your watch benefits from periodic servicing to maintain optimal performance and longevity. It is recommended to have your watch inspected and serviced by an authorized Citizen service center every 3-5 years. This service typically includes cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of the movement.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
