Setup
Placement:
The placement of your subwoofer can significantly affect its performance. Generally, placing the subwoofer in a corner of the room can enhance its output. Experiment with different locations to find the best sound balance for your listening environment.
Connections:
Ensure all audio components are turned off before making any connections. Refer to Figure 4 for a visual guide to the rear panel connections.
- Line Level Connection (Recommended):
If your receiver or preamplifier has a dedicated subwoofer output (LFE or Sub Out), connect an RCA audio cable from this output to the LINE LEVEL IN (L or R) on the SUB-TS7. If your receiver has a stereo pre-out, use both L and R inputs on the subwoofer.
- High Level Connection:
If your receiver does not have a dedicated subwoofer output, you can connect the subwoofer using the HIGH LEVEL IN terminals. Connect speaker wires from your receiver's main speaker outputs to the corresponding HIGH LEVEL IN terminals on the subwoofer. Then, connect speaker wires from the HIGH LEVEL OUT terminals on the subwoofer to your main front speakers. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).
- Power Connection:
Once all audio connections are made, connect the power cord to the POWER input on the subwoofer and then to a suitable AC wall outlet.
Operating the Subwoofer
Power On Mode:
The POWER ON MODE switch (refer to Figure 4) allows you to select how the subwoofer powers on:
- ON: The subwoofer will remain on continuously.
- AUTO: The subwoofer will automatically turn on when it detects an audio signal and enter standby mode after a period of inactivity.
- OFF: The subwoofer will remain off.
Controls and Adjustments:
- SUBWOOFER LEVEL: Use this knob to adjust the overall volume of the subwoofer relative to your main speakers. Start with a low setting and gradually increase until the bass blends seamlessly with your system.
- FILTER (Crossover Frequency): This control determines the highest frequency the subwoofer will reproduce. Adjust it to blend the subwoofer's output with your main speakers. If your main speakers are small, set the filter higher (e.g., 100-120Hz). If they are large, set it lower (e.g., 60-80Hz).
- PHASE (NORMAL/REVERSE): This switch helps to ensure that the subwoofer's output is in phase with your main speakers. Listen to music with strong bass and switch between NORMAL and REVERSE. Choose the setting that provides the most impactful and coherent bass.
Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Harman Kardon SUB-TS7 subwoofer, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior surfaces of the subwoofer. Do not use liquid cleaners, aerosols, or abrasive chemicals, as they may damage the finish.
- Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings on the subwoofer are not blocked. Adequate airflow is crucial to prevent overheating.
- Placement: Avoid placing the subwoofer in direct sunlight, near heat sources, or in areas with high humidity.
- Power Cord: Regularly inspect the power cord for any signs of damage. If damaged, replace it immediately with an authorized Harman Kardon replacement part.
