Citizen WR 50
CITIZEN ECO DRIVE Model WR 50
Instruction Manual
Product Overview
The CITIZEN ECO DRIVE Model WR 50 is a sophisticated timepiece designed for reliability and convenience. This watch operates on Citizen's innovative Eco-Drive technology, which harnesses light from any source, artificial or natural, to continuously power the watch. This eliminates the need for battery replacement, offering an environmentally friendly and low-maintenance solution.

Setup and Initial Charging
Your Eco-Drive watch is powered by light and does not require a battery replacement. For optimal performance, ensure the watch is adequately charged before initial use.
- Initial Charging: Expose the watch dial to a strong light source (e.g., direct sunlight or a fluorescent lamp) for several hours. The charging time varies depending on the light intensity. For a completely discharged watch, it may take up to 10-12 hours in direct sunlight or significantly longer under indoor lighting to reach full charge.
- Time Setting:
- Pull the crown out to the second click position.
- Rotate the crown to set the hour and minute hands. Ensure the AM/PM is correctly set if your watch has a 24-hour indicator or if setting the date.
- Push the crown back in to the normal position.
- Date/Day Setting:
- Pull the crown out to the first click position.
- Rotate the crown to set the date and day. For watches with a day/date display, rotating the crown in one direction typically adjusts the date, and the other direction adjusts the day.
- Push the crown back in to the normal position.
Note: Avoid setting the date between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM, as this may interfere with the automatic date change mechanism.
Operating Instructions
Once properly charged and set, your Eco-Drive watch will operate continuously as long as it receives sufficient light exposure.
- Continuous Operation: The Eco-Drive movement stores energy in a special power cell, allowing the watch to run for extended periods even in complete darkness. The power reserve can last for several months on a full charge.
- Low Charge Warning: If the watch's power reserve becomes critically low, the second hand may begin to move in two-second intervals instead of one-second intervals. This indicates that the watch needs to be recharged by exposing it to light.
- Water Resistance (WR 50): This watch is rated WR 50 (Water Resistant 50 meters). This means it is suitable for short periods of recreational swimming, showering, and general daily use. It is not suitable for diving, snorkeling, or prolonged water immersion. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in before any contact with water.
Maintenance and Care
Proper care will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Citizen Eco-Drive watch.
- Cleaning: Wipe the watch case and bracelet regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dirt and perspiration. For water-resistant models, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by drying. Avoid using chemical cleaners or abrasive materials.
- Charging Environment:
- Always charge the watch in a well-ventilated area.
- Avoid placing the watch directly on incandescent lamps or other heat sources, as this can cause damage to the movement or case.
- Do not charge the watch at high temperatures (e.g., in a car dashboard under direct sunlight), as this can lead to malfunction.
- Storage: When storing the watch for extended periods, ensure it is exposed to light periodically to maintain a sufficient charge. Storing it in a dark place for too long may lead to complete discharge and require a longer recharge time.
- Avoid Extreme Conditions: Protect your watch from extreme temperatures, strong magnetic fields, and strong shocks.
Troubleshooting
If your watch is not functioning correctly, consider the following common issues and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Watch has stopped or second hand moves in 2-second intervals. | Insufficient charge. | Expose the watch to strong light for several hours to fully recharge. |
| Time or date is incorrect. | Time/date not set correctly or watch was discharged. | Recharge the watch if necessary, then reset the time and date according to the "Setup" section. |
| Watch runs intermittently. | Inconsistent light exposure or internal issue. | Ensure consistent light exposure. If the problem persists after full charge, contact Citizen service. |
If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact an authorized Citizen service center.
