Holzmann BS 128HDR-230V Metal Band Saw Instruction Manual

Model: BS 128HDR-230V

1. Important Safety Instructions

Before operating the Holzmann BS 128HDR-230V metal band saw, carefully read and understand all instructions and safety warnings in this manual. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury. Keep this manual for future reference.

  • Work Area Safety: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
  • Electrical Safety: Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions.
  • Personal Safety: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
  • Tool Use and Care: Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
  • Material Safety: Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped before cutting. Never attempt to cut freehand.

2. Product Overview

The Holzmann BS 128HDR-230V is a semi-automatic metal band saw designed for precise cutting of various metal materials. It features an automatic stop function, a cast iron arm with ball-bearing blade guides, continuously adjustable descent speed via a hydraulic cylinder, and a quick-release vise with a cutting stop. 3. Setup and Assembly

3.1 Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully unpack all components. Inspect the machine for any damage that may have occurred during transit. Report any damage to your supplier immediately. Ensure all parts listed in the packing list are present.

3.2 Base Assembly and Placement

The band saw is delivered with a base designed to facilitate the installation of a cooling system (if applicable) and provides stability. Assemble the base according to the included assembly diagram. Position the machine on a firm, level surface capable of supporting its weight (86 kg gross). Ensure adequate clearance around the machine for safe operation and material handling. The integrated wheels allow for easy repositioning within the workshop.

3.3 Electrical Connection

Connect the machine to a grounded 230 V, 50 Hz power supply. Ensure the electrical circuit is protected by an appropriate fuse or circuit breaker. Do not use extension cords unless absolutely necessary, and ensure they are rated for the machine's power requirements (550 W).

3.4 Blade Installation

The machine is supplied with one blade. To install or replace the blade (dimensions: 1638 x 0.6 x 13 mm):

  1. Ensure the machine is disconnected from the power supply.
  2. Open the blade guard covers.
  3. Carefully position the blade around the wheels, ensuring the teeth are pointing in the correct cutting direction.
  4. Adjust the blade tension until it is firm but not overly tight. Refer to the machine's tensioning mechanism for specific instructions.
  5. Adjust the ball-bearing blade guides to ensure proper blade alignment and support.
  6. Close the blade guard covers securely.

3.5 Vise Setup

The quick-release vise is used to secure the workpiece. Adjust the vise jaws to accommodate the material size. The integrated cutting stop helps ensure repeatable cut lengths.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Powering On/Off

To turn the machine on, press the green START button. To turn it off, press the red STOP button. The machine also features an automatic stop function that will halt operation once a cut is completed.

4.2 Adjusting Cutting Angle

The saw bow can be rotated from -45° to 60° to perform miter cuts. Loosen the locking mechanism, adjust the bow to the desired angle using the angle scale, and then securely tighten the locking mechanism.

4.3 Adjusting Blade Speed

The machine offers three blade speeds: 23, 34, or 54 meters per minute (M/min). Select the appropriate speed based on the material being cut. Softer metals generally require higher speeds, while harder metals require lower speeds. Refer to the machine's speed selection mechanism for adjustment.

4.4 Adjusting Descent Speed

The descent speed of the saw arm is continuously adjustable via a hydraulic cylinder. Adjust the control knob to achieve the desired feed rate for optimal cutting performance and blade life. A slower descent speed is generally recommended for harder materials or larger workpieces.

4.5 Cutting Capacities

The maximum cutting capacities are as follows:

  • Round Solid Material:
    • 125 mm at 90°
    • 95 mm at 45°
    • 50 mm at 60°
  • Rectangular Profile Material:
    • 100 x 150 mm at 90°
    • 95 x 76 mm at 45°
    • 50 x 56 mm at 60°

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your band saw. Always disconnect the machine from the power supply before performing any maintenance.

5.1 Cleaning

After each use, clean the machine to remove metal chips and dust. Use a brush or compressed air. Do not use solvents that may damage painted surfaces or electrical components.

5.2 Blade Replacement

Replace the blade when it becomes dull or damaged. Follow the blade installation steps in Section 3.4. Always use blades of the correct dimensions (1638 x 0.6 x 13 mm).

5.3 Blade Guide Bearings

Periodically inspect the ball-bearing blade guides for wear or damage. Adjust them as needed to ensure proper blade support and prevent premature blade wear.

5.4 Lubrication

Regularly lubricate moving parts, such as the vise screw and pivot points, with appropriate machine oil to ensure smooth operation and prevent corrosion.
