1. Introduction

The FiiO E17K Alpen 2 is a versatile portable headphone amplifier and Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) designed to enhance your audio experience. It features a robust build and intuitive controls, making it suitable for various audio setups, including use with computers as an external sound card.

2. Setup

2.1. Charging the Device

Before initial use, fully charge the FiiO E17K. Connect the device to a computer's USB port or a USB power adapter using the provided Mini USB cable. The charging indicator on the device will show charging status.

2.2. Connecting to a Computer (USB DAC Mode)

  1. Connect the FiiO E17K to your computer using the Mini USB cable.
  2. The device will be recognized as an external sound card. For optimal performance, especially for DSD decoding, install the FiiO ASIO driver (available on the official FiiO website).
  3. Select the FiiO E17K as the audio output device in your computer's sound settings.

2.3. Connecting Audio Sources

  • USB Input: Connect to a computer or compatible digital audio player via the Mini USB port for digital audio input.
  • Coaxial Input: Use a coaxial cable to connect to digital audio sources with a coaxial output.
  • Line-In: Connect analog audio sources (e.g., smartphones, portable music players) to the 3.5mm line-in port. This port also functions as a line-out.

2.4. Connecting Headphones

Plug your headphones into the 3.5mm headphone output jack on the FiiO E17K.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1. Power On/Off

Press and hold the O/EXIT button to power the device on or off.

3.2. Input Selection

Press the INPUT button to cycle through available input sources (USB, Coaxial, Line-In).

3.3. Volume Control

Rotate the multi-functional scroll wheel on the side of the device to adjust the volume level. A short press on the scroll wheel typically confirms selections within menus.

3.4. Menu Navigation

The scroll wheel is used for navigating through the device's menu options. Rotate to scroll and press to select.

3.5. Gain Settings

The FiiO E17K offers adjustable gain settings to match various headphone impedances and listening preferences. These settings are typically accessible through the device's menu and may include options such as 0dB, 6dB, and 12dB.

3.6. Tone Controls (Bass/Treble)

Adjust bass and treble levels via the menu to fine-tune the sound to your preference. Adjustments can typically be made in increments, often ranging from -10 to +10.

4. Maintenance

  • Keep the device dry. Avoid exposure to moisture or liquids.
