5. Maintenance and Care

5.1 Water Resistance

The Casio HS-80TW-1DF is water resistant up to 50 meters (5 BAR). This means it is suitable for use around sinks, during swimming, and athletic sports in shallow waters. It is not suitable for snorkeling or scuba diving. Avoid operating buttons while the stopwatch is submerged in water to prevent water ingress.

5.2 Battery Replacement

The stopwatch uses one CR2032 lithium-ion battery, providing approximately 5 years of operation. When the display becomes dim or functions are erratic, it is time to replace the battery. Battery replacement should ideally be performed by a qualified technician to ensure proper sealing and water resistance. If replacing yourself:

  1. Carefully remove the screws on the back cover of the stopwatch.
  2. Gently lift the back cover. Note the position of the gasket.
  3. Remove the old CR2032 battery and insert a new one, ensuring correct polarity (+ side up).
  4. Replace the gasket correctly and secure the back cover with the screws. Ensure the screws are tightened evenly to maintain water resistance.

After battery replacement, you may need to perform an AC (All Clear) reset by briefly touching the AC contact point on the module to the battery's negative terminal with a metal tweezer. Refer to the module diagram if available. Then, reset the time and date as described in Section 3.2.

5.3 General Care

  • Clean the stopwatch with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a slightly damp cloth and mild soap, then wipe dry.
  • Avoid exposing the stopwatch to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight for prolonged periods, or strong magnetic fields.
  • Do not use chemical cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the casing or display.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Blank or Dim Display:

This usually indicates a low battery. Replace the CR2032 battery as described in Section 5.2.

  • Incorrect Time/Date:

The time and date may need to be reset after a battery change or if the stopwatch has been exposed to strong impacts. Refer to Section 3.2 for setting instructions.

  • Buttons Not Responding:

Ensure the stopwatch is not in a locked mode (if applicable, though not specified for this model). If the issue persists, a full reset (AC reset after battery change) might be necessary. If buttons are stuck, gently clean around them. Avoid forcing buttons.

  • Water Inside Display:

If moisture appears inside the display, immediately stop using the stopwatch and seek professional service. This indicates a breach in the water resistance seal.
