5. Setup

5.1 Charging the Device

Before first use, fully charge your GX8 intercom unit.

  1. Connect the provided USB charging cable to the charging port on the GX8 unit.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to a suitable USB power adapter (not included) or a computer USB port.
  3. The LED indicator will show charging status (e.g., red for charging, blue for fully charged).

5.2 Installing on Helmet

The GX8 can be mounted using either the clamp or adhesive base. Choose the method best suited for your helmet.

  1. Choose Mounting Location: Select a flat surface on the left side of your helmet where the intercom unit will not obstruct your vision or movement.
  2. Clamp Installation:
    • Loosen the screws on the clamp bracket.
    • Slide the clamp between the helmet shell and the inner padding.
    • Tighten the screws to secure the clamp firmly.
  3. Adhesive Base Installation:
    • Clean the chosen area on your helmet thoroughly and ensure it is dry.
    • Peel off the protective film from the adhesive base.
    • Firmly press the adhesive base onto the helmet surface for at least 30 seconds. Allow 24 hours for the adhesive to cure before attaching the intercom unit.
  4. Attach Intercom Unit: Slide the GX8 intercom unit onto the mounted bracket until it clicks securely into place.

5.3 Speaker and Microphone Installation

  1. Speaker Placement: Attach the speakers inside the helmet, aligning them with your ears. Use the adhesive pads if necessary. Ensure they are positioned comfortably and do not cause pressure points.
  2. Microphone Placement: Position the microphone in front of your mouth, ensuring it is close enough for clear voice pickup but not obstructing your vision or breathing. Connect the microphone cable to the designated port on the intercom unit.
  3. Cable Management: Route all cables neatly under the helmet padding to avoid tangles and ensure comfort.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

  • Power On: Press and hold the Power button for approximately 3 seconds until you hear a voice prompt and the LED indicator lights up.
  • Power Off: Press and hold the Power button for approximately 3 seconds until you hear a voice prompt and the LED indicator turns off.

6.2 Bluetooth Pairing (Phone/GPS/MP3)

The GX8 supports simultaneous connection with up to two Bluetooth devices.

  1. With the GX8 powered off, press and hold the Power button for about 5-7 seconds until the LED indicator flashes red and blue alternately, indicating pairing mode.
  2. On your mobile phone, GPS, or MP3 player, enable Bluetooth and search for available devices.
  3. Select "GEARELEC GX8" from the list of devices.
  4. Once paired, the LED indicator will flash blue slowly, and you will hear a confirmation voice prompt.

6.3 Intercom Communication (Group)

The GX8 supports 8-rider full-duplex intercom communication with one-touch interconnection.

  1. Ensure all GX8 units are powered on and within range (up to 1500m).
  2. Initiate pairing on one unit (Master unit) by pressing the Intercom button.
  3. On other units (Slave units), press the Intercom button to join the group.
  4. Once connected, all 8 riders can communicate simultaneously.
  5. To end intercom, press the Intercom button again.

6.4 Music Playback and Sharing

  • Music Playback: Once paired with a music device, music will play automatically or can be controlled via the device's media controls.

6.5 FM Radio

The GX8 includes a built-in FM radio.

  • Turn On/Off FM Radio: Press the FM button (or designated button) to toggle the FM radio on or off.
  • Scan/Change Stations: Use the volume or navigation buttons to scan for stations or switch between presets.

6.6 Phone Calls

  • Answering Calls: Incoming calls can be answered automatically (if enabled) or manually by pressing the Phone button.
