Z-Wave Control & Pairing

SmartStart Inclusion

Initiate inclusion (pairing) in your Z-Wave hub's app or web interface. If using an S2 hub, you may need to enter the DSK key or scan the QR code found on the device's back cover sticker to complete SmartStart inclusion.

Power the sensor: Insert batteries or connect the Micro USB cable. The LED indicator will start blinking. The sensor will automatically join the network once scanned.

Important: Never include the sensor powered by USB and then switch to batteries. This can cause the sensor to act as a Z-Wave repeater, rapidly draining batteries. Always include the sensor powered by batteries if it's intended to be a battery-powered device.

Manual Inclusion

Put your Z-Wave hub into inclusion mode. Click the Z-Wave button on the sensor 3 times quickly. The LED indicator will blink to confirm inclusion mode and turn off upon completion. If connected to USB power, it may pair automatically as a repeater without button presses.

Scan QR codes for hub-specific pairing instructions:

  • SmartThings [QR Code]
  • Hubitat [QR Code]
  • Home Assistant [QR Code]

Installation

Choose Power Source

The sensor can be powered by 2 CR123A lithium batteries (lasting approximately one year depending on usage) or via a Micro USB cable and 1A power supply. If using USB power as primary and batteries as backup, be aware that keeping the USB cable connected during inclusion will keep the Z-Wave radio active, draining batteries within 48 hours after USB power is removed.

Install Batteries / USB Power

Twist the back cover counter-clockwise to open and access batteries. Pull the battery tab to power the sensor; the LED indicator will start blinking. Alternatively, insert a Micro USB cable into the port above the battery slot. The LED indicator will blink.

Test the Sensor

Once powered, the LED indicator will blink if the sensor is not yet included in your Z-Wave network. If already included, it will light up for 2 seconds and flash once.

LED Indicator Not Blinking or Lighting Up?

  • Ensure batteries are inserted correctly, observing polarity (+/-).
  • Try fresh, non-rechargeable lithium batteries.
  • Test with a different USB cable or power supply.
  • Click the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly to force inclusion/exclusion mode if you missed the initial flash.

Troubleshooting

Sensor Not Adding to System?

  1. Initiate EXCLUSION mode on your hub and click the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly.
  2. Click the Z-Wave button 4-5 times quickly during inclusion.
  3. Move the sensor closer to your hub if it's out of range.
  4. Verify the device is powered.
  5. Visit www.support.getzooz.com for hub-specific tips.

Exclusion (Removing / Unpairing Device)

  1. Bring the sensor within direct range of your Z-Wave gateway (hub).
  2. Put your Z-Wave hub into exclusion mode (contact ask@getzooz.com if unsure).
  3. Press and release the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly.
  4. Your hub will confirm exclusion, and the sensor will disappear from the device list.

Factory Reset

If your primary controller is missing or inoperable, manually reset the device. Ensure the sensor is powered, then press and hold the Z-Wave button for at least 20 seconds. The LED indicator will flash and then turn solid for a few seconds to confirm the reset. All recorded activity and custom settings will be erased.

Wake-Up Mode

The sensor's default wake-up interval is 4 hours to conserve battery. You can adjust this using the Wake Up Command Class (interval in seconds, min 120s, max 86400s). Press and hold the Z-Wave button for 3 seconds to manually wake the sensor. This activates the Z-Wave radio briefly for communication with the hub. The wake-up interval does not affect how often the sensor reports motion or other values.

Association

The Q Sensor supports Group 1 (up to 5 nodes) for Lifeline communication and Group 2 (up to 5 devices) for basic on/off control. Upon detecting motion, it sends a Notification and Sensor Multilevel Report to Group 1 and a Basic Set command to Group 2.

Advanced Settings

For a complete list of parameters, visit www.support.getzooz.com.

  • Parameter 12 (Motion Sensitivity): Adjust sensitivity (1-8, 8 being most sensitive). Default: 6. (1 byte dec)
  • Parameter 13 (Motion Clear Time): Set delay before reporting 'no motion' after last activity. Values: 10-3600 seconds. Default: 30 seconds. (2 byte dec)
  • Parameter 19 (LED Indicator): Enable (1) or disable (0) LED for motion alerts. Default: 1 (enabled). (1 byte dec)
  • Parameter 172 (Reporting Frequency): Set minimum interval (in hours) for battery, temperature, humidity, and light level updates, even if thresholds aren't met. Frequent reports impact battery life. Values: 1-744 hours. Default: 4 hours. (2 byte dec)
  • Parameter 183 (Temperature Threshold): Report new temperature when it changes by the specified value (in Fahrenheit). Values: 1-144°F. Default: 1°F. (2 byte dec)
  • Parameter 184 (Humidity Threshold): Report new humidity when it changes by the specified percentage. Values: 0 (disable) or 1-80%. Default: 5%. (1 byte dec)
  • Parameter 185 (Lux Threshold): Report new lux value when brightness changes by the specified amount. Values: 0 (disable) or 1-30000 lux. Default: 50 lux. (2 byte dec)

Press and hold the Z-Wave button for 3 seconds to wake the sensor after updating settings.

Mounting

Use the included 2 screws to fix the mounting bracket to a flat surface, ideally at least 7 feet above the ground for optimal detection. Alternatively, use the included adhesive tape to avoid drilling.

Tips:

  • The sensor detects movement best to its sides, not directly in front.
  • Use a Phillips screwdriver for mounting screws.
  • Do not position the sensor facing a window, direct sunlight, or near heat sources (radiators, boilers).

Indoor Use Only

This sensor is designed for indoor use only. Outdoor installation will void the warranty.

Installation Steps:

  1. Mark Screw Holes: Use the bracket to mark two mounting holes on a clean, dry surface 7 feet above ground. Skip if using adhesive tape.
  2. Install Bracket: Drill holes and use the supplied screws to attach the back cover to the wall.
  3. Mount Sensor: Snap the sensor onto the back cover. Position it to cover the desired area.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure, high temperatures, or humidity.
  • Keep away from chemicals, water, and dust.
  • Ensure the device is not near heat sources or open flames.
