Installation

1. Powering the Sensor

Use the included triangle tool to gently open the sensor's cover and access the battery. Pull the tab from under the battery to activate the sensor. Do not close the cover immediately. The LED indicator will blink for approximately 10 seconds after the sensor is powered.

If the LED indicator does not blink or light up:

  • Ensure the battery is inserted correctly, observing the positive (+) and negative (-) pole markings.
  • Try a fresh, non-rechargeable lithium battery.
  • Click the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly to force inclusion/exclusion mode if the initial flash was missed.

Visual Description: The sensor has a Z-Wave button and an LED indicator. To pair, click the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly.

Z-Wave Control

1. Adding a Device to Your Hub

Initiate inclusion (pairing) within your hub's application or web interface. If using an S2 hub, you will be prompted to enter the DSK PIN or scan the QR code found on the inside of the sensor's battery cover to complete SmartStart inclusion.

2. Activating the Sensor for Pairing

While the hub is searching for new devices, click the Z-Wave button 3 times as quickly as possible. The LED indicator will flash to confirm inclusion mode and turn off once inclusion is complete.

Tip: It is recommended to add your sensor from the intended installation location to ensure the hub can establish the best communication route.

Troubleshooting

Sensor Not Adding to System

  1. Initiate EXCLUSION mode on your hub and click the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly.
  2. Click the Z-Wave button more rapidly when attempting to add.
  3. Move the sensor closer to your hub if it might be out of range.
  4. Verify that the device is powered correctly.
  5. Consult www.support.getzooz.com for hub-specific troubleshooting tips.

Exclusion (Removing Device)

  1. Bring the sensor within direct range of your Z-Wave hub.
  2. Put your Z-Wave hub into exclusion mode (contact ask@getzooz.com if unsure how).
  3. Click the Z-Wave button 3 times as quickly as possible.
  4. Your hub will confirm the exclusion, and the sensor will be removed from your device list.

Factory Reset

If your network's primary controller is unavailable, you can manually reset the device. Ensure the sensor is powered, then click the Z-Wave button twice and hold it on the third click for 10 seconds. The LED indicator will blink continuously. Immediately after, click the Z-Wave button twice more to finalize the reset. The LED indicator will flash 3 times to confirm a successful reset.

Note: A factory reset erases all previously recorded activity and custom settings.

Wake-Up Mode

The sensor's default wake-up interval is 12 hours to conserve battery. You can adjust this interval using the Wake Up Command Class. To manually wake the sensor, click the Z-Wave button 4 times quickly; the LED indicator will flash once to confirm it is awake. The sensor keeps its Z-Wave radio active for one minute during wake-up to receive hub communications. A longer wake-up interval does not impact reporting frequency, so the default setting is recommended for battery conservation.

Association

The XS Sensor supports Group 1 for Lifeline communication and Groups 2-5 for basic on/off control, allowing up to 5 devices per group. Use Group 2 for high temperature alerts, Group 3 for low temperature alerts, Group 4 for high humidity alerts, and Group 5 for low humidity alerts. Refer to parameters 5-8 for threshold settings.

Note that direct association settings may not be accessible on all Z-Wave systems. Contact Zooz support for assistance.

Advanced Settings

Adjust sensor behavior through various parameters. Click the Z-Wave button 4 times quickly to wake the sensor after updating settings.

  • Parameter 2 (Low Battery Reporting): Sets when the sensor reports low battery. Values: 5-20% battery life. Default: 10. Size: 1 byte decimal.
  • Parameter 3 (Temperature Reporting Threshold): Sets the temperature difference required for a new report. Values: 0 (disabled) to 100 (where 10 equals 1 degree). Default: 10. Size: 1 byte decimal.
  • Parameter 4 (Humidity Reporting Threshold): Sets the humidity difference required for a new report. Values: 0 (disabled) to 50 (%). Default: 5. Size: 1 byte decimal.
  • Parameter 16 (Temperature Reporting Frequency): Sets the minimum frequency for temperature reports. Values: 0 (disable) to 480 minutes. Default: 240. Size: 2 byte decimal.
  • Parameter 17 (Humidity Reporting Frequency): Sets the minimum frequency for humidity reports. Values: 0 (disable) to 480 minutes. Default: 240. Size: 2 byte decimal.

Mounting

Indoor Mounting

  1. Include the sensor to your Z-Wave network from its intended installation location before mounting.
  2. Place the sensor on a dry, clean surface. Use the supplied adhesive tape to fix it, ensuring the battery slot and sensor perforation point downwards.
  3. Test the sensor overnight to confirm it reports temperature and humidity as configured. Allow up to 48 hours for the sensor to adjust to the environment before evaluating reports.

Outdoor Mounting

  1. For best results, install outdoors under an eave using the included snap-on mounting bracket.
  2. Add the sensor to Z-Wave from the installation area before mounting.
  3. Use the supplied screws to attach the mounting bracket to a dry, clean surface near the desired monitoring spot.
  4. Insert the sensor into the bracket; it should snap securely into place. Ensure the sensor perforation points downwards.

Visual Description: A snap-on mounting bracket is included for secure attachment.

Battery Power Tip

This sensor uses a coin battery with lower capacity than typical lithium CR batteries. Battery readings may fluctuate when the sensor is active during programming or testing. Readings typically stabilize within a few hours. Allow a day or two after observing a lower reading before assessing the actual remaining battery life.
