EO Mini Pro 3 Installation & Commissioning Guide

This document provides detailed information for the installation and commissioning of the EO Mini Pro 3 product. It covers product summary, physical installation, product data, device configuration, advanced features, and a detailed description of each menu page.

The documentation is based on Firmware version 1.3.5.

1.0 Introduction

This document covers the details of the EO Mini Pro 3 product, including:

EO Products should be installed by an EO Approved Installer. Please see section 9 for more information.

2.0 Quick Reference Guide

2.1 EO Mini Pro 3 Installation

  1. If you have never installed an EO Mini Pro 3, complete the Installer Training on the EO Academy. Refer to the training academy link on the support page.
  2. Open the EO Mini Pro 3 and use the drilling template on the back of the installer guide to mount the base on the wall.
  3. Use the cable template on the installer guide to prepare the input cables (Power and CT clamp connections).
  4. Take a photo of the installer label on the inside of the base. This is required for commissioning (step 9).
  5. Connect the power cables to the EO Mini Pro 3, using the supplied cable restraint and stepped grommet for ingress protection.
  6. Connect the comms cable from the back of the EO Mini Pro 3 to the front, close the EO Mini Pro 3 (with rubber washers on hex bolts), and attach the fascia.
  7. Power up the EO Mini Pro 3.
  8. When the LED changes from white to blue (approx. 2 min), join the Wi-Fi hotspot (e.g., eo-01234567890), using the credentials from the photo in step 4.
  9. Go to https://10.10.10.1, click through security warnings, and log in with username "Installer" and the password from step 4. Set the following as a minimum:
    • Smart Charging: Disable default profiles and random delay for safety tests. Re-enable them before handover to the customer as per UK Smart Charging Regs.
    • Network: Check APN details for GSM enabled units (if required).
    • Installer: Set timezone, max current, contact details, tamper (bump=2, tilt=10), and CT clamps (if load management is required).
    • Load: Configure load management & Solar settings (if required).
    • CSMS URL: Replace with wss://ocpp.ev.energy:443.
  10. Log out. The unit is ready for handover to the customer. Hand over the customer card for final setup.

2.3 Simple Operation

To use the charging station:

  • Ensure the charging station is powered up.
  • Plug the cable into the vehicle.
  • Plug the other end of the charging cable into the vehicle. The vehicle will start to charge immediately or as per the schedule on the cloud or app.

3.0 Preparation for Installation

3.1 Equipment

Ensure appropriate tools are used to mount the charging stations, along with appropriate power cables, MCB, and RCDs.

3.2 Network (LAN) Connectivity

When using a hard-wired connection to a LAN, ensure a working connection to the client's network is available prior to installation. Otherwise, the charging stations will fail to connect to the CSMS (charge station management system). Ensure ports 80 and 443 are open when connecting to the CSMS.

3.3 Wi-Fi Connectivity

If the EO Mini Pro 3 will use Wi-Fi for its internet connection, check the strength and integrity of the Wi-Fi signal before fitting the device. A weak Wi-Fi signal may cause the installation to fail. To check Wi-Fi signal strength:

  1. Ensure a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network is available.
  2. Use a Wi-Fi analyser mobile app to verify signal stability, strength, and interference levels.
  3. Connect a mobile device to the premises' Wi-Fi router (with customer permission).
  4. Measure the data rate (should be >5Mbps) and signal noise [RSSI] (should be less than -67dBm).

If Wi-Fi is not suitable, consider these options:

  1. Install a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi booster.
  2. Use the hard-wired Ethernet option.
  3. Request a charger with a 4G GSM internal modem if a strong GSM signal is available.

4.0 Installation Instructions for the EO Mini Pro 3

4.1 Physical Installation Instructions

  1. Remove the EO Mini Pro 3 from the packaging. The fascia is the final component to fit and contains the "Installer Access Label". The centre section contains the charger socket and main electrical components. The rear housing contains the Wi-Fi and GSM PCB (if applicable).
  2. Take a photo of the Installer Label on the base, which contains the login credentials for software configuration.
  3. After verifying Wi-Fi stability and finding a suitable mounting location, position the drilling template and ensure the surface is flat and level. Drill accurately for the mounting holes.
  4. Attach the EO Mini Pro 3 base to the wall using the four provided screws. Ensure the charger is secure and flush against the wall, using packing washers if necessary.
  5. Strip and prepare the power cable, feeding it into the pre-made hole and stepped grommet. Use the supplied cable restraint or a 25mm gland.
  6. Connect the Live, Neutral, and Earth wires to the charger connector block accordingly.
  7. If using Ethernet for connection to the client router or if CT clamps need to be fed into the Mini Pro 3, drill out the second aperture and fit a suitable gland.
  8. The rear charger housing allows for one rear cable entry as shown. DO NOT drill into any other area of the housing, as this will invalidate the product warranty and could damage the rear internal PCB.
  9. If using Ethernet, connect it to the RJ45 female connector on the Mini Pro 3 circuit board.
  10. If connecting CT clamps for load management or solar, a four-pin connector block is provided. Important: If a separate CT wiring label is supplied, follow its instructions as it supersedes this document.

CT Destinations:

  • Connect the CT for load management to CT1. Connect the Red wire to position A and the white wire to position B.
  • For an additional solar clamp, connect to CT2 with the red wire to position A and the white wire to position B.
  • Orientate CT clamps correctly when connecting to the supply cable. Orientation can be checked in the Info page of the Mini Pro 3 after it powers up (see section 5.1). The clamps have an arrow that should be oriented with the current flow from the supply.
  1. Before closing the charger case, ensure the PCB tethering lead is plugged in and connects both front and rear PCB boards.
  2. With all cables securely connected, close the Mini Pro 3 cases, ensuring internal cabling is not trapped. Secure the housings with the four hex bolts and washers.
  3. Attaching the fascia to the EO Mini Pro 3 should be done after all testing is complete.

4.2 TN/IT Wiring Connections

The EO Mini Pro 3 can be configured for TN or IT grid types:

PE = Protective Earth, N = Neutral, L1 = Line/Phase 1, L2 = Line/Phase 2.

Set the phase rotation and grid selection (IT/TN) as per instructions. The EO Mini Pro 3 is now physically installed, and software commissioning can begin.

4.3 Maintenance

The EO Mini Pro 3 requires periodic maintenance, including physical cleaning of the unit and socket/plug pins. The RCD/MCB should also be tested as per the manufacturer's instructions.

5.0 Detailed Description of Web Interface

This section provides a detailed view of the EO Mini Pro 3 web interface.

5.1 Info Page

This page displays important information to determine if the charging station is working correctly, including:

  • CSMS Connection State: Indicates if the charging station can connect to the OCPP server.
  • Status: OCPP status of the charging station.
  • Current and current offered: Shows the current offered to the vehicle and the current drawn by the vehicle.
  • Faults.
  • CT Clamps: If enabled, shows a +VE or -VE value in mA.
    • +ve value = current import (grid to house).
    • -ve value = current export (house to grid).

5.2 Transactions

The transactions screen is divided into two halves:

  • Transaction history: Displays historic charging sessions, energy drawn, and duration.

Note: RFID is only applicable to the EO Genius 2.

5.3 CSMS

By default, the charging station connects to the EO Cloud. The installer must change this to point to ev.energy by modifying the following fields:

  • Authorisation Strategy: Local or Remote by OCPP server.
  • Default ID Tag mode: Requires authorisation by the cloud before starting.
  • Default ID Tag: Value sent in Start Transaction message.
  • CSMS URL: Replace with wss://ocpp.ev.energy:443.
  • Charger Identity: The OCPP ID required by the server.

5.3.1 RFID Operation

Various RFID options are available, applicable only to the EO Genius 2.

5.4 Smart Charging Profiles

The charging station is programmed with a default charging schedule and random delay, compliant with UK Smart Charging Regulations. These features must be enabled when handing over to the customer. Profiles are defined as OCPP Smart Charging Profiles and can be overridden by the OCPP Server.

5.5 EVSE

This page provides detailed information about the firmware and configuration of the charging station. The only actionable items for the installer and customer are to change the OCPP availability status of the charger:

  • Available
  • Unavailable

5.6 Network

This section covers Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and GSM network settings.

5.6.1 Ethernet

The Ethernet port is enabled by default and uses dynamic DHCP. For a static IP address, switch DHCP to Static and enter the IP details.

5.6.2 Wi-Fi + Adhoc

The Wi-Fi device operates in two modes:

  • Adhoc: Wi-Fi hotspot configuration. Do not modify these settings, as it may prevent the unit from powering up with a Wi-Fi hotspot. Recovery requires connecting via Ethernet.
  • Wi-Fi: Settings to join a local Wi-Fi network.

To view available Wi-Fi networks, click "Refresh List". Select a network and click "Use as Wi-Fi SSID". This populates the "Wi-Fi SSID" field, allowing the installer to enter the Wi-Fi password in the "Wi-Fi PSK" field. Static Wi-Fi details can also be used.

5.6.3 GSM

The installer can enter three settings: APN URL, Username, and Password.

GSM functionality works in two modes:

  • Primary: Checks for Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection on startup. If none are present, it uses GSM to connect to the OCPP server.
  • Backup: Acts as a backup if Ethernet or Wi-Fi is present. If no connection is detected for 20 minutes, it swaps to GSM.

5.7 SCC

This page displays system errors, useful for diagnosing charging station issues. The EO team may request data logs for charger malfunctions.

5.8 Admin

This page details important support functions:

  • System Update: Support may provide a new firmware image to upload.
  • OS Firmware Version: e.g., 1.3.5.
  • OS Restart: Reboots the charger (approx. 2 min).
  • SCC Logs: Download diagnostic logs for analysis or to send to support.

5.9 Installer

This page details important support functions and settings:

  • Timezone: Set the local timezone for accurate OCPP schedules (sent in UTC).
  • Charger Current Limit: The maximum current limit for the charger (6-63A).
  • Installer Info: Enter installer details for the OCPP Server and support team.
  • Tilt: A multi-stage calibration process. Ensure the station is in its final position. Enter Bump=2 and Tilt=10, then click "Save tilt + calibrate". Note: This action may remove unsaved information; save other settings first.
  • CT Clamps: If used, enable "External CT Clamps Enabled" and configure "Ct Clamp 1" and "Ct Clamp 2" with "Enabled", "Rating", and "Location" (Source or Site).

5.10 Load

The load page works with CT Clamp settings for load management. The system offers several load management options:

  • Enabled: Yes/No.
  • Load balancing mode: Dynamic or Static. Static turns off load management.
  • Site Limit: The site's limit in Amps (e.g., 60A, 80A, or 100A).
  • Load balancing margin: A safety margin (e.g., 10% of the site limit).
  • Load Balancing Minimum Change: The amount the CT Clamp reading must change before the station reacts.
  • Load Balancing Minimum Delay: Time between changes to the advertised available power.
  • Load Balancing Minimum Top Up: Minimum charge rate in TopUp or TopUpEco mode.
  • TopUpEco Minimum Threshold: Amount of export required before solar charging begins.

5.10.1 Enabled Different Modes by Using Profiles

For customers selecting different schedules via the ev.energy App, configure the following:

  • Enabled: Yes/No. Controls modes via the ev.energy App.
  • Load Balancing Profile Mode: Default solar mode (e.g., Import).

5.11 Solar

The Mini Pro 3 supports several solar modes:

Charging stations can be configured in the following modes:

  1. Permanent Solar Mode:
    • Import: Charging rate matches solar inverter output or total site export.
    • TopUp: Charging rate is a minimum of 6A, increasing if solar export is >6A.
    • TopUpEco: Similar to TopUp, but with a configurable starting threshold.
  2. Solar + Load Management: Customer sets charging via ev.energy app (e.g., Full Power 00:00-04:00, Solar 10:00-15:00).

6.0 Other

6.1 Firmware Update

Firmware can be upgraded via the OCPP server or the Admin Page of the web interface. The CSMS automatically upgrades the unit to the latest firmware version when connected.

6.2 PEN Fault Detection

PME variants have built-in PEN fault detection, operating continuously when powered on. If a PEN fault is detected, the vehicle is isolated, and the LED turns solid RED. Charging is not possible. To restart charging:

  • Unplug the vehicle.
  • Power cycle or remotely reset the charging station.
  • If the LED remains RED, contact an installer to inspect the grid connection. A pulsing Blue LED indicates the system is safe.

Note: For PME variants, ensure they are ordered at the point of purchase as they cannot be retrofitted.

6.3 UK Smart Charging Regulations

The EO Mini Pro 3 complies with UK Smart Charging regulations, featuring a random delay (600sec/10min), a default charging schedule (no charging 08:00-11:00 and 16:00-22:00), and an anti-tamper tilt switch, along with auto firmware updates.

6.4 Offline Behaviour

6.4.1 Schedules

By default, the EO Mini Pro 3 follows the last communicated schedule from the OCPP server. If no schedule is received, it operates according to the schedule set in the "Smart Charging" menu.

6.4.2 Load Management

If Local Load management is configured, it operates independently of the OCPP server connection.

6.5 Deleting Customer Data

Customer Wi-Fi details are the only customer data stored. Customers can delete this by logging into the web interface and removing the details from the Network page.

6.6 Finding the Device on a Local Network

If logged into the same IP network, the web interface can be accessed by:

  • Entering the charger's IP address in the browser's search bar.
  • Entering the charging station's serial number followed by ".local".

An IP Scanning tool can be used to find the IP address.

6.7 Temperature Derating

The charging stations have a temperature de-rating algorithm. If internal temperatures exceed thresholds, the charging rate is reduced. The charging rate reduces by 25% if temperatures exceed 65°C.

7.0 Hints and Tips

  • Utilize the Info page to understand the charging station's current status and for fault diagnostics.
  • Review CT Clamp readings on the Info page to check correct orientation.
  • Error logs on the SCC page detail any shown errors.
  • In case of an error, download diagnostic logs from the admin page, as the support team will request them.

Measures for protection against electric shockIf EO Mini Pro 3 includes internal 6mA DC leakage protection (DCL option), a 30mA Type A RCD must be fitted at the supply.
