Remote Controller Overview
The remote control allows you to operate the amplifier from a distance. Key functions include:
- 1. STANDBY: Powers the unit on/off.
- 2. MUTE: Silences the audio output.
- 3. NUMERIC PAD: For direct track selection (e.g., on USB/SD).
- 4. PREVIOUS: Skips to the previous track.
- 5. DIRECT ON/OFF: Bypasses tone controls for a purer sound.
- 6. VOL+ (INCREASE VOLUME): Increases the audio volume.
- 7. PLAY/PAUSE: Starts or pauses playback.
- 8. BALANCE (L) (+/-): Adjusts the sound balance between left and right speakers.
- 9. TREBLE (+/-): Adjusts the high-frequency response.
- 10. INPUT SOURCE BUTTONS: Selects the audio input source (Phono, AUX1, AUX2, AUX3, CD/SACD, MIC, USB/SD, Bluetooth).
- 11. DISC. (DISCONNECT BT): Disconnects from a Bluetooth device.
- 12. DISPLAY: Cycles through display information like track name, artist, and album (available in Bluetooth, USB, and SD modes).
- 13. LOUDNESS ON/OFF: Enhances bass and treble at low volumes.
- 14. REPEAT FUNCTION: Repeats the current track or album.
- 15. PROG (PROGRAM MODE): Allows programming a sequence of tracks.
- 16. STOP: Stops playback.
- 17. NEXT: Skips to the next track.
- 18. BALANCE (R) (+/-): Adjusts the sound balance between right and left speakers.
- 19. BASS (+/-): Adjusts the low-frequency response.
- 20. VOL- (DECREASE VOLUME): Decreases the audio volume.
- 21. SPEAKER OUTPUT A/B: Selects speaker outputs.
Connecting to the Mains
WARNING: Ensure the unit is connected to a power source only after all other connections are made. Use the provided power cord.
The amplifier requires a standard AC power connection. Ensure the power outlet is easily accessible.
Front Panel Controls
The front panel provides access to the main functions of the amplifier:
- 1. STANDBY: Power button for standby mode.
- 2. USB-MP3 SLOT FOR PLAYBACK: Insert USB drives for MP3 playback.
- 3. SD-MP3 SLOT FOR PLAYBACK: Insert SD cards for MP3 playback.
- 4. DOT MATRIX DISPLAY: Shows information such as track name, volume level, and input source.
- 5. INPUT SOURCE SELECTION: Buttons to select the desired audio input (Phono, AUX1, AUX2, AUX3, SACD, Microphone, USB/SD, Bluetooth).
- 6. KNOB FUNCTION MODE SELECTION: This knob cycles through Volume, Bass, Treble, and Balance settings. Press the knob multiple times to select the desired parameter.
- 7. MULTIFUNCTION KNOB: Use this knob to adjust the selected parameter (Volume, Bass, Treble, Balance).
- 8. HEADPHONES OUTPUT: Connect your headphones here for private listening.
- 9. MICROPHONE INPUT: Connect a microphone for karaoke or announcements.
- 10. SPEAKER OUTPUT (A): Terminal for connecting Speaker A.
- 11. PLAY/PAUSE: Controls playback for USB/SD and Bluetooth sources.
- 12. SPEAKER OUTPUT (B): Terminal for connecting Speaker B.
- 13. STOP: Stops playback.
- 14. PREVIOUS: Skips to the previous track.
- 15. LOUDNESS ON/OFF: This feature normalizes the volume by reducing loud sounds and increasing low sounds, enhancing the listening experience at lower volumes.
- 16. NEXT: Skips to the next track.
- 17. DIRECT ON/OFF: Engages or disengages the Direct mode, which bypasses bass and treble adjustments for an uncolored sound.
Rear Panel Connections
The rear panel features various input and output terminals:
- 1. POWER ON/OFF: Main power switch.
- 2. SPEAKER TERMINALS A/B: Connect your speakers here. Ensure impedance is between 4-8 ohms for Speaker A and B. The combined impedance for A+B should be 8 ohms.
- 3. PHONO GROUND TERMINAL: Connect the ground wire from a turntable to prevent hum.
- 4. POWER CORD: Connection point for the AC power cord.
- 5. SERVICE PORT: For authorized service personnel only.
- 6. RECORDING LINE OUT: Use an analog audio cable to output audio signals to recording equipment.
- 7. CD/SACD PLAYER INPUT: A dedicated input for CD and SACD players.
- 8. AUX AUDIO INPUT TERMINALS: Connect external audio sources (e.g., MP3 players, smartphones) via analog cables to the AUX-1, AUX-2, or AUX-3 inputs.
- 9. PHONO (MM) INPUT: Connect a turntable with a Moving Magnet (MM) cartridge here. It features a built-in phono pre-amplifier with RIAA equalization.
Connecting Speakers to the A/B Terminals
Follow these steps to connect your speakers:
- Unscrew the Protectors: Manually or with a spanner, unscrew the protective caps from the speaker terminals.
- Adjust the Protectors: Loosen or gently remove the protective piece to expose the speaker output terminal.
- Prepare the Speaker Wires: Twist the exposed wires of the speaker cables to prevent stray strands. Ensure at least 15mm (approx. 8 inches) of wire is exposed for a secure connection.
- Insert the Speaker Cables: Carefully insert the speaker wires into the correct terminals, matching the wire colors to the polarity indicators (+/-) on the terminals.
- Screw Back the Protectors: Reinstall and tighten the terminal protectors to ensure a firm connection between the speakers and the amplifier unit.
- Enjoy the Music! Remember to use the unit responsibly and avoid exposure to very high volume levels.
Alternate Connection: For easier setup, you can use banana plugs to connect the speakers to the unit.
Bluetooth Mode
Connect your Bluetooth-enabled devices to the AMU-120BT for wireless audio streaming.
- Select Bluetooth Mode: Use the remote control or the Input Source button on the front panel to select Bluetooth mode.
- Search for Pairing Name: On your Bluetooth device, search for "AIWA AMU-120BT" in the list of available devices.
- Stay Close: Maintain a distance of up to 10 meters (approx. 33 feet) between your device and the amplifier for optimal connection.
- Enjoy Music: Once connected, the display will show your device's name.
USB/SD-Card Mode
Play music files directly from USB drives or SD cards.
A. Connect the USB/SD Card: Insert your USB drive or SD card into the corresponding slot on the front panel.
B. USB & SD-Card Compatibility: This unit supports FAT 16 and FAT 32 file systems for USB and SD cards, up to a maximum capacity of 128GB.
- Select USB/SD-Card Mode: Use the remote control or the Input Source button on the front panel to select USB/SD mode.
- Control Playback: Use the playback controls (Play/Pause, Stop, Next, Previous) on the remote control or the front panel to manage your music.
