Side-by-Side Assembly
This section details the process of assembling two Liebherr appliances side-by-side.
Important Notices
NOTICE: Risk of damage due to colliding doors! Setting up two appliances side-by-side can lead to door collision if not done correctly. The door hinges are factory-set and should not be changed for Side-by-Side setups.
Position the freezer or appliance with the freezing compartment on the left. These appliances are equipped with a side-wall heater on the right to prevent condensation.
All fasteners are included in the accessory kit.
Assembly Parts and Tools
Assembly parts are typically found in the accessory kit.
Tools required:
- Side 10 open-ended spanner (supplied)
- Torx® 25/20/15 screwdriver
- Cordless screwdriver
- Spirit level
Moving the SBS Combination
- Before assembly, position the appliances as close as possible to their final location.
- Ensure appliances are accessible from all sides for correct installation.
- When moving installed appliances, always grip them from the front outer corners. Do not press against side walls or doors.
- The easiest way to move the combination is diagonally, moving one corner at a time.
- If the combination is directly in front of a recess, slide it in straight.
- If pulling the combination out of a recess, grip the bottom third and pull straight forward.
NOTICE: Moving the SBS combination may result in damage! The assembled combination is heavy. Improper movement can cause dents. Follow the moving tips carefully.
Installation Steps (General)
Step 1: Prepare Appliances and Attach Brackets
- Screw in the outer adjusting feet to facilitate movement (Fig. 10).
- For appliances with lever handles, position them approximately 10 mm (0.39 in) apart, flush facing forward.
- For appliances with recessed grips, position them approximately 32 mm (1.26 in) apart, flush facing forward.
- Use a spirit level on top of the appliance to ensure it is aligned.
- Remove existing covers (Fig. 11).
- Before fitting the top bracket, unscrew grounding screws (Fig. 11, item 14). Store them safely as they are needed for bracket assembly.
- Remove all protective films from the exterior housing.
- Slide the bracket (e.g., Fig. 12, item 3) with a spacer between the appliances onto the pins. Loosely screw on with screws (e.g., Fig. 12, item 4) and previously removed grounding screws (e.g., Fig. 12, item 14) alternately on the right and left.
- If necessary, level the appliance using a spirit level on top.
- For the bottom front, remove existing covers. If a metal plate (Fig. 13, item 1) is installed, unscrew it. (Note: Re-attach if transporting or using as an individual appliance).
- Slide bracket (e.g., Fig. 14, item 6) with spacer between appliances and loosely screw on with screws (e.g., Fig. 14, item 4).
- Align appliances and tighten top and bottom screws.
- For the bottom rear, slide bracket (e.g., Fig. 16, item 8) with slots over the retainer for wall spacers.
- Note: Holes for screws may need pre-drilling. Mark positions with a pencil. Remove the bracket again. Drill depth approx. 1 mm (0.04 in) through the metal plate if applicable.
- For the top rear, slide bracket (e.g., Fig. 15, item 7) with spacer between appliances and onto the appliance ceiling with lugs. Tighten with screws (e.g., Fig. 15, item 5).
Step 2: Pre-drill and Attach Brackets/Covers
- Pre-drill screw holes with a 3 mm (0.12 in) bit and deburr (Fig. 17).
- Slide bracket (e.g., Fig. 18, item 8) onto the retainer for wall spacers. Tighten firmly with screws (e.g., Fig. 18, item 5).
- Before fitting top and front cover strips, push the bars together along their length. Use a soft cloth to push strips into the gap to avoid dents. Press strips in carefully and evenly for an optimal fit.
- For appliances with recessed grip, press the short cover strip (Fig. 19, item 9) into the horizontal gap at the top.
- For appliances with lever handle, press the short cover strip (Fig. 20, item 9) into the horizontal gap at the top.
- For appliances with recessed grip, press the long cover strip (Fig. 21, item 10) into the vertical gap at the front, ensuring it rests on the connecting plate.
- For appliances with lever handle, press the long cover strip (Fig. 22, item 10) into the vertical gap at the front, ensuring it rests on the connecting plate.
- Remove protective film from cover strips.
Step 3: Finalizing Appliance Placement and Door Adjustment
- Snap the top cover (Fig. 23, item 11) onto the gap between control panel trims, ensuring a flush finish.
- Place the bottom cover (Fig. 24, item 12) onto the bracket from the front, slide down, and snap in at the bottom. To disassemble, insert a screwdriver at the bottom to release hooks.
- Connect the combination to the power supply. Refer to the Installation Guide.
- Appliances with IceMaker or InfinitySpring: Connect to the fixed water connection. Refer to the Installation Guide.
- Carefully push the SBS combination into its final position.
- If necessary, level the SBS combination using the leveling feet.
- To adjust door height: Open the door to 90°. Lower outer adjusting feet on the bearing bracket until they rest on the floor. Unscrew the adjusting foot (Fig. 25, item 18) clockwise using the spanner (Fig. 25, item 2) until the foot contacts the floor, then continue turning to adjust height.
- Fit decorative base trim. These are available from the Liebherr Service Center. They are decorative and do not affect functionality.
- For appliances with bottom soft stop mechanism: Pull off and turn the swap bearing block cover (Fig. 26, items 1 & 2). Turn it around the joint so the open side faces upward (Fig. 27). Remove the cover downward (Fig. 28).
- For appliances without bottom soft stop mechanism: Fasten the base panel in the recess (Fig. 29). Install the swap bearing block cover from the assembly kit in reverse order.
- Secure the base trim in the recess at the bottom of the appliance (Fig. 30).
